Consolidate and push on.

Wasn’t that the plan this time last year? Consolidate in our first season and then push on? The vast majority of us were happy to finish 4th bottom to mid table.
I was in the happy with 4th bottom and anything else is a bonus brigade, I used to be an optimist with Sheffield United, 6 years in league one turned me to the opposite but after a flying few months up until December I changed my mind about consolidating in our first season and like a lot of blades fully believed we could easily finish in the top 6, unfortunately this didn’t happen due to some deserved and undeserved results, however the optimism within me maintained itself and after hearing Lord Wilder of shoreham has signed a new deal, rumours of a decent transfer kitty and also a bright prospect in Jamal Blackman interested in signing it no wonder the optimism is looking like it’s here to stay. The whole prince and McCabe debacle doesn’t bother me slightly, as long as Wilder is happy we should be happy.

Have your expectations changed? I’m now firmly optimistic we can finish top 6.

I Posted this nearly a year ago. Same again?

Hard to judge just yet with not knowing who will be added to the squad but listening to Wilder he want's good young additions to the squad, something we really are short of at the moment. Chris is superb in the transfer market and will get what's needed to try and stay in the division which is the obvious priority. I reckon we will be around 14th/15th at the seasons end.

I'd say, just substitute the league names and yes, the same again would be incredible.
Stay in the prem next season, even if it's 17th, then make strides second season, rinse and repeat.

These rumours of a decent transfer kitty worry me a bit - they’re words not usually associated with United

Decent transfer kitty, for us.
It will be the lowest in the Prem, and no higher than about 10th in the Championship.

We've already shown that money isn't the main driver for success, but the Premier League is a different kettle of fish. Fulham, Cardiff and Huddersfield are probably better at the moment than we are now, so massive improvements are needed

I look at all the prem sides and I think whilst we'll have a right go at it I can't see more than one promoted side surviving if that.
The gap is so vast I don't think the money's enough.

I honestly believe we will finish around 10th.

We have existing players who have maybe overachieved but who also have never ever been anywhere near the Prem or even thought it possible and so have everything to prove and to show that they deserve to be there.

It’s not always about money either as us and Norwich haven’t spent big to get promoted. Money definitely doesn’t guarantee anything in any division.

We all thought we’d consolidate in the Champ this season (and last season) and I and many others would have been happy with that.
But we have been magnificent in both the way we’ve performed our attacking style and systems of overloading and also the way we’ve achieved success without diving, cheating, surrounding refs and parking the bus etc.

We do have one special ingredient however and that is the Wilder effect. This is something very unique which comes along perhaps once in a lifetime or probably never. Somebody on this forum mentioned Brian Clough as a comparison a while back and I said a similar thing about a year ago.

Cloughy completely bucked all the accepted football rules and trends and revolutionised the types of players he signed and the systems he played.

We should not have pre conceived ideas on how far CW can take us next either because I don’t think their is an upper limit.

Hope your right, Wilder knows what he needs ,but can we get what he wants.
We need the best transfer window we've ever had to compete.
