The Blades have signed Marcus Bent on loan until the end of the season from Premiership outfit Birmingham City.
Micky Adams has on this occasion opted to bring in experience and knowhow in the form of a player he has had under his wing previously at Leicester following, last week's capture of Joe Mattock and Shane Lowry.
The 32-year-old joins the Blades for the second time in his career - he had a successful 13-month stint at the Lane spread over two seasons and two managers from October 1999 to November 2000 when Adrian Heath brought him here from Port Vale.
The striker scored 20 times in 48 league starts for United before Neil Warnock sold him to Blackburn Rovers where he played in the Premiership at Ewood Park, before Ipswich Town paid £3 million for his services in November 2001.
Following Town's relegation from the top-flight, Bent had a brief stint at Leicester City prior to joining Everton on the eve of the 2004/05 campaign. After a good start at Goodison Park, Bent then fell behind James Beattie and Andrew Johnson in the pecking order which led to Charlton Athletic parting with £2.3 million for him in January 2006.
Bent then joined Birmingham City for a fee in excess of £1 million n July 2008 and has since had loan spells with Middlesbrough, QPR and, this season, with Wolves.
