Confession Time: Things You Got Wrong

Wrong about nearly every manager we have had recently till now. Who knew you needed a manager who has experience of building a promotion winning team, rather than one who took just took a team up.

Saw Kyle Walker get skinned a few times in first 20 mins by the Orient winger in the rescheduled cup game at Orient years ago - and told my brother he'll never make it as a full-back!

Said similar...but that I didn't see him as a regular for England!

It took me far too long to turn on Adkins. I was guilty of overlooking too many worrying signs and giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe a lot of that was due to thinking we had very few alternatives and accepting that we'd be sticking with him for another season. Didn't know there'd be someone like Wilder available.

Still waiting for mine.

Early prediction about Adkins, bet with BTL we wouldn't make the play offs, predicted Hammond would be a terrible signing on the day we signed him, really wanted Chris Wilder to be appointed, prediction in pre-season that Scunthorpe would be challenging for automatics.

Everything I have predicted or said so far has been correct.
Ah, and there was me thinking you'd started to write Wilder off with the others early doors.

I thought Nigel Adkins was the best appointment we could make at the time. Mind you, I thought Micky Adams was the ideal when he was appointed. Hopefully I can add to this thread in a few months time expressing some doubts about Chris Wilder being the right man!

*Sticks head above the parapet*
I thought we should have given Adkins another season
So did I. :)

Of course, I'll stick with the general principle of giving a manage more than one full transfer window.

At loggerheads with many on here who were planning Wilder's exit before the end of the very first transfer window. :)

Just today I’ve acknowledged how wrong I was about Jake Wright.

I wanted RDM instead of Wilson. Dunno if that’s wrong or not.

I thought it was a mistake to sack Adkins. Current form suggests I might have been wrong but another where I guess we’ll never know how we’d have done had he stayed.

I thought James Harper would be a fantastic signing and possibly the final piece of the jigsaw.

I thought McCall and Allison would be crap signings.

After watching Michael Higdon play 45 minutes against Bristol City I said “He’s just what we’ve been crying out for”.

As crap as we were I always believed we needed to give a manager time, 1 season then chopping & changing just wasn't doing it...

...[enter Chris Wilder stage right] :)

I was absolutely confident during the build up to the 2003 Play Off Final that there was no way on this earth that we wouldn't beat Wolves with the team we had.
Since that day I've never gone in to any match expecting us to win.
Me too.

And it gets better. Posted on BM that 'Adams is the man, he'll sort us out.' Said similar about Clough and Adkins.

Didn't think Wright would feature much. In fact, about nine months ago when the idea of Wilder being our manager was first mooted my reply was 'Adams Mk2'.

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I've spouted more shit than that.

But we all do at times, which is why it's a bit hypocritical to call others out when they get things wrong.

I thought Conor Sammon would turn out to be an unlikely hero after the first few games of last season.

I thought Jonathan Forte would go on to be a Blades hero after watching his debut.

I also wanted Dean Saunders instead of Nigel Clough.

I didn't think Ched Evans would go to jail...

^^^^^ Same as, big fail, I thought it was a formality :(

I was prepared to give Bryan Robson the benefit of the doubt, but realised at half time against Colchester that I was wrong.

I'd heard stories that there was one bloke who did.

Thought its got to be an urban myth....

To be fair to you though you couldn't bear to take the pins out of the Clough doll Ricky.

If you’re talking about Adkins he rebuilt Scunny’s team following relegation and took them back up.
