Compared with last season...

It's got the feeling of last season all over again, same pattern of graph anyway, happy days.

Newcastle - the eventual champions - were in the middle of their best run last season, 8 straight wins. After that, they lost two on the trot. We're three wins away from matching them stride-for-stride. That's the line we should be targetting.

Quick update to show this afternoon's results. Wendy are closing the The Gap after a heroic draw at home to Barnsley. Now it's only thirteen points:

And, with almost a third of the season gone, the pub team keep on going...

NUFC lost 7/32 from this point forward last season, that's 21.9% of their games. They drew 6/32 or 18.8%, and won 19/32 or 59.3%.

To date we've drawn zero, lost 4/14 or 28.6% and won 10/14 or 71.4%.

Which means, errrrr, not much really.

Latest update No longer top, but another 2 points ahead of Wendy (us 36pts., them 24 pts)

Still second place and in the top six since game 5 - Derby at home on 26th August - so nearly 3 months and thirteen games. When will the luck of our 'pub team' run out?

Blimey, if we win the next two reasonably winnable home games, we'll be in a better position than Newcastle were last year after 19 games :) We'd need to win the next three after that to stay there though :(

I think it's 'managing expectations' time. When we were 2-0 up in the game v. Wednesday, I said to a mate 'You do realise that anything less than a win will seem like failure now.' And that's how this season is panning out. We've probably been spoiled so far and have been getting ahead of ourselves, but that's how football works. Every season, Tottenham 'Dare to dream' and get let down. Look at Huddersfield's delight when they won at Hillsborough, but now stern reality is crowding in.

Us fans will keep the faith. We're not suddenly going to turn against the team and management that has taken us so far. We'll leave that to Wednesday.
