On Saturday I kept hearing, why are we playing a player who is transfer listed???

I tell you why, cos he is playing out of his skin to impress and he's doing brilliantly.

Last season against Arsenal he was amazing, chasing Viera and the rest of their midfield all over the park. Tony Daley said he is the fittest player at the lane (when he was on soccer am) And that is what we need in the centre midfield slot, now he ain't a world beater or the best skillfull player I have ever seen. But when you play with the desire and passion he has (especially this season) that should serve as a notice to all players and fans alike.

My point, get of his back, so what if he is transfer listed, Warnock had to list certain players in order to bring in new faces, now if it made Monty play like he is, then I say put the whole team on the transfer list!!! 2 man of the match performances says it all I think.

hes been the best player so far this season, yet still people slag him off to a stupid extent. Im fed up of having to defend the poor lad.

here here...there's too many pessimistic Blades fans..I hate so say. Always come to games and then moan all the time if we ain't playing football like Arsenal.

Grrrr....just get behind the team. That's why you come isn't it??

No, he's the anti-Christ don't you know ;)

People go to matches with an idea in their heads about how players play. They don't seem to understand that players can play well one week and be shite the next.

They see Monty and they think he's crap, so they're always gonna think he's crap when they go and watch him, despite his blinding performances.

According to a mate (of a mate) Montgomery can't actually stand Warnock but if you listen to some people, you'd think they were sleeping together! Warnock has said that if he plays like he's playing, then transfer listed or not, he's going nowhere.

Good.

Great point..

End of the day, that is what counts....playing well. And like you said, if your playing well your in the team and ain't gonna be sold.

I have been a fan of Monty's, although he doesn't have the skills like others, he has the determination to play on even though all what is said about him. I'm sure he reads papers, hears talk but he carries on and has shown what he can do. We have had players on the list before who have come through better for it.

C'mon Monty you can put the critics right and be a key member to a promotion push!

If we had the money, I'd be tempted to sponsor him, if someone hasn't already :)

It'd at least show him that some people are behind him!

Hopefully someone will now, I have always wanted to sponsor a player, but it's just too much for me at the moment in time, maybe next year if my bloody pay rise comes in

Dunno... I think its a bit more than that.

I know Flashing Blade used to sponsor a player until it got too expensive for them.

Why don't we find out how much it would be for a season, I'm sure we could drum up enough money...I'd stick a few quid in (as long as it ain't extortionate)

We'll look into it for next season (fingers crossed the site will still be up and running then).

They might have increased the prices if we're in the Premiership though ;)

Yeh, you can see it now, sponser a players pants for only 500 squid per game, and you get to keep them afterwards...

we'll still be able to sponsor now if theres any that havent been done, if its cheap enough everyone can chip in (even via the donate function on the main site) and i'll get it sorted. Will look into it.

Definitly mate, have a look into it and let us know.

I'm off now, I'm so knackered after a solid hard days graft.

Catch ya all tomorrow!!

LATERZ BLADES!!!!

I hope you've got a lot of spare cash then...

"The cost to sponsor a player's kit for the season is £600 + VAT."

Both of Montys kits are available however :)

Can't we just sponsor his sock thingies?

As I said earlier in the thread, Warnock said on Saturday that while Monty continues to play the way he's playing, he'll remain at the club.

Monty = midfield maestro

All we need now is £600 + vat and he'll be Sheff-Utd's midfield maestro :)

Zinadine Montgomery as been the player of the season so far IMO.

Nick Montgomery

I've got a very strong feeling that this post is going to annoy some Blades. I don't mean to be deliberately controversial like some people, but I genuinely believe Nick Montgomery is not 1st team material.

If giving 200% week in week out got teams promoted then Monty would be first on my team sheet. But it doesn't. The crowd applaudes his "no-nonsense" tackling - but how often is he simply cleaning up a mess he's gotten himself into? Or how many times will he break down our own attack by laying the ball back 40 yards to Paddy? We cheer him on when he's steaming through the park onto a through-ball but there is NEVER an end product.

He'd be my third choice behind Alan Quinn and Lilian Nalis.

Quinny gets goals and Lilian Nalis has one major addition to his game that Monty woefully lacks. Forward, intelligent, intuitive passing.

I challenge Blades fans that back Montgomery to give me reason as to why he is picked before Nalis or Quinn. I would imagine more than 90% of the reason is "grit" or "determination" or "passion". These things haven't got teams promoted for years. Ok, maybe that's me sounding cockey but I can't think of an equivalent where a Monty style character has kept out a Nalis style character and won promotion.

with all due respect, how many games have you been to and watched him in this season?

People keep saying this, but monty has been having probing runs forward, shots, good passes, crosses and even a few assists so far this season.

Quinny was woeful pre-season, but on the other hand has now had a decent two games. As for Nalis he was great pre-season, but has looked out of his depth and quiet in the season so far.

IMO Monty has played well in every single game so far and has been a strong candidate for MOM in every one.

Without a doubt deserves to keep his place.

Just look at the sheff-utd.co.uk poll to see who the fans think has been the most influential player so far this season.

Anyway does a midfield solely consist of talent and style? No, why? because it costs too much money and there are places for players like Monty. Yes he has been slated last couple of seasons for his performances, but look at Tonge have you said anything about him yet or are you going to save that for next season if he has a bad year? In the midfield we have class (jags & Tonge when he is on form) we have speed (ifill & Quinn)we have grit or what ever you want to call it (Monty & Gillespie) and he isn't always tackling from his mistakes, he made a great run 3/4 the lengh of the pitch to make a stop for someone elses error against QPR I believe.

I hope he can keep his place and make the midfield the strongest in the championship as it should be :)

A very similar thread on unitedite about monty, and there's too many people slating him. If he has played shit then fair enough, he's also got more critisism already this year than in the whole of last season, when it's obvious he's playing far better.

Now we all know he ain't Zidane, but then again when are we gonna have a player of his ability at the lane. If yo have an attacking midfielder ala Quinn, you need a holding player along side to clean up any mess and counter attack.

He may not continue this form all season, but for what he has done so far, you have to give him credit.

Also, some fans have different opinions about Warnock, but i'm sure he ain't daft enough to play a player that isn't performing.

I'm not slating Montgomery. He has raised his game incredibly since this time last year but there is a country mile between a Montgomery man of the match performance and a Quinn / Nalis / Ifill / Tonge / Gillespe man of the match performance. Montgomery has done everything he can to keep his place and he has earned the respect of the fans and manager but that doesn't change the fact that he isn't as good a player as other "on-the-brink" midfielders in our squad. Fact. While ever Tonge isn't performing and Nalis isn't "impressing" then Monty deserves a place but surely he is covering them? As soon as either one hits form in training/reserves then Warnock needs to have the strength to over-look fans polls and football-heaven praises and bring the stronger players straight back in. Good managers don't just drop players that play shit, they should play their strongest 1st team whenever possible.

Don't hate me!

Foxy, I've been to every game this season and watch intently - I know he makes probing runs and fires shots off but like I said in my original post there is NEVER an end product.

if theres never any end product, how do you describe his assists so far this season?

The reality is, Quinny doesn't get back enough (though he's been better at it in the last two matches), Tonge certainly doesn't, Ifill is better when not having to worry defensively as is Gillespie. Therefore we need a player willing to cover every blade of grass and cover for the others, it just so happens he's chipping in with other stuff as well so far this season. He's usually covering for most of the midfield and half the defense, then runs 3 quarters of the way back up the pitch after making a last ditch tackle as the last man. Whilst you might say effort alone isn't good enough, he's currently doing enough in games to keep him there without even taking his effort into consideration.

IMO Monty is currently part of the strongest team and while he's in form will continue to be.
