Another derby match that was completely unwatchable for me as it was dark and white striped shirts with plain dark shorts against….. dark and white striped shirts with plain dark shorts.

I turned off after a bit - then watched a bit more after half time, and when the ball fell to Brewster for the goal I had absolutely no idea if it was one of our players or one of theirs.

I turned it off again. Completely pointless watching. What is the point of away kits?

Horrendous wasn't it. Thought it was just me watching it on the phone but black shorts killed it.

I only knew from the direction we were kicking

I appreciate some traditionalists want both teams in home kits but we have away kits to avoid these clashes

Sorry but I think the derby matches should always be played in the first kit. If anything they could possibly change shorts to help you
Genuine question - why?

The shorts would make a tiny difference but barely any really.

Based on 8% of people being colour blind there were over 2,500 people struggling in the stadium alone… and many thousands struggling on TV.

If there’s a colour clash the away team should play in white shirts.
If both teams play in white then the away team should play in a bright colour (red).
This would solve the problems of the visually challenged.
But it won’t sell many second or third strips so will never happen.

Or we could just have a yellow away kit!

92 percent weren't bothered whatsoever though

Most colour blind people can tell the difference between blue and red so nowhere near 8% in this case, although the few who see everything in black and white would struggle.

It doesn’t work like that. I can tell the difference between blue and red. But at a distance and when things are moving I can’t.

You've already proven yourself to be completely ignorant on this topic though, so...

Not quite how it works but it may have been slightly less an issue than normal. I don't struggle with red and blue but when the dominant colour is white (and black) then it can get confusing. It didn't totally ruin it for me today but I can understand why some people would have really struggled.

I can totally get this, sometimes my eyes go funny and I struggle with similar colours/patterns, it’s worse when playing and you’re making a choice on the ball based on a quick glance around.

However seeing the teams lining up in their proper kits, us in our red and white, them in their classic Tesco value - it’s too evocative an image to not have.

I would be bothered. Or rather I find it very appealing if derbies are played in traditional kit. Makes the matches timeless.
And let’s be honest, your desire to see them wearing particular colours trumps anyone else’s desire to tell the teams apart.

I also had the same problem today as I'm also colourblind.

I find it's getting worse with kits - I noticed it a lot in the NFL this year as well.

I think TVs should come with a colour inversion or colourblind mode. Obviously wouldn't help if you're in the ground though!

My tv has a mode with a colour bind setting but it’s useless AND looks weird.

I was watching it on a big screen and being colour blind I struggled with stripes especially from a distance and vonstsngg to my moving.

The give away for me of course was looking for the white socks as opposed to pigs black socks

Not particularly. I have a preference, that's all. As in other things in life, not every one of my preferences will always cater for every 8% minority. No hard feelings either way if away kits are used. But if they aren't, I prefer it. And won't lose too much sleep over people who don't.

You have to realise that kit colours don’t matter and you should look beyond them, the side that looked like they were coached by a modern, forward thinking genius, were Sheffield Wednesday.

The side who were rattled, lucky and far from classy, were Sheffield United.
