I would be quite surprised if many of us thought that CW was suddenly going to transform us into a promotion winning side in one season, hope he does, but I think most accept that it will take maybe a season or two. I'd like to see some progress next year, which NA was unable to serve up the season just gone. The OP can only say what he sees, whatever, their achievements last season were remarkable, holding it together right to the end of the campaign, not taking their foot off the gas.

Exactly what was said about Adkins - that he'd need longer than a season. Three transfer windows to sort this squad out according to Phipps.

It's not us fans who are having unrealistic thoughts about having a one-season stormer and going up. It's the board.

I don't get how Adkins was supposed to serve up a plate of success when most of his ingredients were rotten.

SUFC manager has one remit.
Up after one season.

Clough = Out (although he had longer)
Adkins = Didn't even make a year.

Wilder = ??????

This time next season, are we going to be looking for another man who has one season?

If we ain't happy, the support that is, I can't see any change in the proceedings.

Sadly, you are probably right Lydon

Your right TJB, I actually thought that NA was beginning to move us in the right direction towards the end of the season, but the performance against Scunny quickly seemed to dispel that. Had Jim cleared it with the chairman and board when he made his comments ?. Probably regrets saying it now.

Hello Blades, Cobblers fan in peace here. I don't know if anyone has bothered to come on here from my club to post thoughts or pass on what to expect, but I have been fairly keen to since you we knew Wilder was going, and having read some of the thoughts on here I just want to dispel a few myths.

Aware that a few of you are under whelmed by his appointment due to him not having managed at this level or a club as big as you are. First of all any thing that you have heard that he play long ball football is highly inaccurate and likely to have come from jealous Oxalona fans. Since his appointment we have always played or attempted to play football at high intensity, passing, triangles, using the width of the pitch and something I've loved quick and clever set pieces.

All players he has brought into the club are of competitive nature and recruitment policy has tended to be people with experience in winning teams, who like to play football. He instilled a never say die attitude and created a team that never new they were beaten, finding a way to win and adapting to the game was again something he was very good at. Could never fault his decision making in a game, the days of watching managers make frustrating subs etc we gone under him and Knill.
His man management has been spot on to, he was not scared to loan out and transfer list our big marquee signing in O'Toole, something that transformed him into our player of the season, or drop Cresswell our 'rock' at the back we paid a bit of money for. He works on merit basis when it comes to team selection, often key players have been suspended and on return spent games on the bench due to their replacement giving him no reason to drop them.

His passion and love for football it seems means he will always tell it like it is, if you've been outplayed and won, that's what he will say. Never shy away from an awkward question about players’ ether. I could of course go on, as I firmly believe that without this man, I would have no club. With your budget and platform there is no way I can’t seem him taking you up. I've got friends from Sheffield (united fans of course) really hope you go up this season. If you've got the time watch the famous speech that saved our club from going bust! Its now Cobblers history and has put the word 'appeh' in our all vocabulary! The link is below, it’s worth it. Good Luck for season!

Wow that's some passionate intreview if Mr Wilder can bring that to us the fans will love it and the players have no where to go but play with passion or on ya bike .sou ds like a modern day Dave Bassett , without the industrial language.Ime sure he can turn that out when needed

Why do they offer a manager three years, when we all know it's over after just one if we don't get promotion?
Unless there's a clause inserted?
Trouble is, it's where they insert that clause.

They're all wrapped up the same these clause's, they can't have it, you can't have it, Wilder can't have it until he's learnt to accept his reward...

Any sort of real progress might have saved Adkins, but (maybe Billy aside) he didn't progress us and never looked like doing so.

If progress this season was assessing what he had and then clearing them out in preparation for 2016/17, we'll never know.

I would have been happy to see that. I hope that CW won't offer the same failures the offer of yet another season at BDTBL.

He, himself is rotten to the core, he chose sides on the ownership and caused massive friction, he himself had a terrible attitude that almost got him the sack in February so yea would've been great to keep the cunt wouldn't it

Well as far as i'm aware (and I'm usually last to know anything) the objective given to him by Kev was promotion, which he must have agreed to. Not use this season as preparation for promotion next season. If that had been the case his second year would have been a formality?

Thanks for helping understand what we are to expect. 1st of all sorry nicking your manager & my full respect because your mountain of troubles. Its amazing you stayed in the league never mind 13pts clear as champions. There is no disrespect to wilder in feeling underwhelmed because I feel we wouldve felt underwhelming anyone who was appointed. Just how we are at the moment it's a wait & see

Your right I was amazed for when I was reading other fans views on this forum that Oxford fans really hate him which I found confusing because I thought they'd love a guy who brought them back into the football league after 5 years

If the objective was promotion.. automatic, as PO isn't a guarantee, well not with us it isn't.
Why wait until now to move out?
A general question.

If Wilder's objective is to automatic, what happens if we're 20+ points behind the automatic's by the end of the the year or at latest, January 2017?

The more I think about it, the more I think whoever has a go at managing SUFC is either super-confident in his abilities, has been sent by the DWP or is a simple masochist, maybe all three?

What is Wilder's brief? Maybe Kev will be less specfic with him to provide some leeway if things have gone well but not quite as well as we hoped???

Who knows?
Does McCabe know? Does The Prince know?
Is it all just made up in a dream like state after a night of beheadings or an afternoon
in upstate Belgium after a crate of Jupiler?

We can only entertain such thoughts.

Welcome Wilder for Adkins or Clough any day.

Well i was bored watching sideways under Clough, confused with allways under Adkins, so if Wilder plays a style i like to watch, and gets more wins than losses i'll be a happy bunny, even if they're 3-2s and 4-3s.

I do know I like a nice cold Jupiler if nothing else ;)

Got a really good feeling about Wilder. For some reason I'm more enthusiastic than virtually any manager since Warnock.

Think that clip on YouTube has done it for me. I just can't see him stomaching the kind of performances we've seen this season.

If he can get that passionate for Northampton imagine what he'll be like for us in the dressing room at half time when we're 1-0 down at home to Fleetwood town or the like?

For that reason alone I'll be getting my season ticket, at least I know the manager will feel exactly the same as me, only he's in a position where he can do something about it.

I'll give you a specific regarding McCabe;

Allowing Clough to (or employing bafoons that....) spunk £1,500,000 plus an enormous contract, on a full back, to then be next to plotless within a year or so.

It's this type if incompetence that fucks many off.

UTB

He is not a just a full back ----- he is John Brayford .:D:)

KMcC: "If it were to pass that, towards the end of next season, we're seeing good football, we're seeing an intimidatory atmosphere at Bramall Lane that brings back spirit amongst supporters and players, but we miss out [on promotion], for say ... but if improvement's been the case, we'd all be, erm, not quite content, but accepting it's taking more time than we'd wish..."

From about 12.18 on here

Sounds fair enough to me.

£2m (thereabouts) on a hipster beard and an armful of tattoos.

That's what wins promotions.

Come on NC, give us our money back and take the Prodigal with you to the Championship.

Lets see how he goes after having a pre-season [assuming he's ready by then], his attitude coming back from the knee injury at Park Steels was quite a contrast to that of Wallace who played in the same game.

Chalk and cheese or one guy who would run through a brick wall for you and one who will hobble around thinking it might hurt to put some effort in.

To be fair though his signing was welcomed by almost all fans as the second coming. If, like me, you questioned the logic of spending so much on a fullback, you got roundly called a 'pig'.

Brayford was a very good signing, although we did over pay for him by about 500k.

What went wrong with Brayford is pretty simple and that was Clough using him a centre half rather than actually bringing in a centre half. Sadly the injury he got while playing centre half has left him not quite the same player he was which is sods law with us.

Another one using back to front logic.

Just because we've continuously failed then there must be something wrong at board room level but no one seems to know the specific reason apart from saying the words " it's McCabe to blame".

We have been basically the biggest spenders, with the manager being financially backed every year. We've had unprecedented communication of club matters from Jim Phipps. We've recently signed big heroes on massive wages John Brayford and Bily Sharp. We've recently appointed the best available managers at big expense.
Basically we've been the most ambitious club in league 1 and always the bookies favourites to win the league each year hence why our gates remain around the 20,000 mark BUT it must the boards fault.

The negative is that we've failed to gamble everything on promotion and when players want to leave and we get a good offer we (like all clubs) sell our better players if it's for the best. A bit like Liverpool selling Saurez and then Sterlng.

Be careful what you wish.

Really? While all these managers come and go we slide ever backwards with the same captain at the helm. Yet my logic is back to front?

Careful what I wish? I wish we had a board that didn't sell their best players, replacing them with lesser players because finding as good a replacement is really difficult. Harry, Quinn, Kmac, Murphy for starters. All sold or given away and performing at a higher level. There's the spine of a team there we let go. Who did that? Who employs these useless managers? Who then fires them at the first sign of fan unrest?

Sorry my logic is fine. I wish for someone who isn't Kevin McCabe to be running my club. Why? Because he keeps getting it wrong. We are the BHS of football teams.

I'd say Ratners

So there's a split between the owners then?

No that was under the Adkins reign with all the talk of diamonds and that Jazz.

The more I think about it , was Adkins just taking the piss , when deep down he knew his time was up.

Might be a nice fit at Peterborough with there looney chairman.
