Doesn't really tell us anything does it. Would have thought they would have said who from the staff has left at the very least

Agreed, it's from the book of "How to say something, without saying anything."

I recall McCabe saying he wanted Birch to take over the day-to-day running of most football matters so it doesn't surprise me we're now hearing things from him.

Could someone paste I can't get link to work

Here ya go:

Sheffield United today are further considering a replacement for Kevin Blackwell.

Further talks are being held between Kevin McCabe and the board of directors.

Chief Executive Trevor Birch said: "Further to yesterday's announcement we once more thank Kevin for his contribution over the last two and a half years.

"The club now has to move on. We remain passionate and committed to achieving promotion and believe the change of management will assist in that quest.

"The Board will not rush the next move and further discussions will take place during the course of today and tomorrow to consider Kevin's successor."

There will be no further announcement until a successor is appointed.

That's what's surprised me, normally you get "X will be in temporary charge until....".

Is Ellis still there, is Speedo still there !

Someone on BM says Ellis tendered his resignation after blackie left and has gone!

Strange days indeed and not what we've come to expect at BL these last few seasons.

Thanks foxy :)

So no info on who else has gin and who's in charge? At least give us a clue!
However I will not criticise as I think they have some balls to sack KB so early.

You are right, it seems like we are finally becoming big time. Won't be long before we are like an episode of Eastenders.

Maybe it will do us good. So many of us have experienced the lack of passion/interest (no comments re. sex. I'm married with teenagers and therefore forgot about all of that years ago) since the PL. Maybe a good round of infighting will stir us in to action again...

Best statement i've read from the Blades for yonks !

They've either got someone lined-up or it really was a heat of the moment sacking/resignation.
The statement says nothing and wasn't worth the time it took to type it out.
If they have no-one lined up, it's hard to avoid the conclusion McCabe's hit the panic button after seeing the size of the crowd, along with the performance.
Having that little confidence in Blackwell after sanctioning quite a few signings/contracts makes little sense.
It looks like he's reached the right conclusion at the wrong time, in the wrong way.

Good old lenners, always able to make a negative out of a positive.

We can be fairly sure that whoever the board appoint, it will be the wrong one for you len. Can you just give me some guidance, who should it be and why?

Or maybe Birch has been hatching a plan for months ?

Who's in charge of contracts, getting players in, investment, hiring and firing ? OK, he'll have his guidelines from McCabe but the more I think about it, the more I think this is all part of one big plan. There's absolutely no other reason why the decision was made this early IMO.

But why would that plan include allowing Blackwell to make a significant number of signings - admittedly including several poor, inexpensive players - if you intended to sack him two games into the season.
I can't see how the above can constitute a plan.

Blackwell gives Birch a list of players, Birch manages to secure some of them, some don't come to fruition. Not hard to believe that Birch only secured the ones he (or maybe Speed or whoever) wanted ? OK, getting a bit carried away but you can see how it might have panned out. As said elsewhere, if the plan was always to sack Blackwell, it would have been cheaper once the season started and doing it now gives the new man virtually the whole season.

Walton aside, the calibre of signing is about as good as anyone would have expected given the budget etc

I don't get why people think sacking him after 2 games is bad. Didn't do Norwich much harm last season when they got rid of Gunn after 1 league game. The fact they have decided to do it so early gives me faith they are going to do everything to get it right this time, and hopefully if they get the right guy they will have faith to give him the chequebook.

This is what pissed me off about Blackwell. In my opinion this squad is more suited to football than hoofball or shall i call it aimlessball after yesterday. To me yesterday was far worse than anything Robson gave us.

Yes but nobody has thought what would have happened had we won yesterday and put in a good performance. However unlikely that might have been if the sacking was pre-planned then a win would have scuppered it or really looked strange.

Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If Birch is incharge of all of the above why not just get rid of KB and let him do it on his own till the right man came in. What's the point in letting the squad get conditioned by a lame duck's tactics and management only to pull the carpet away from under everyone two games in?

If our budget is decent it must surely be the management that's accountable for our squad lacking in both quality and quantity? It seems to me we blew too much of the budget on renewing Monty, Morgan, Quinn and Cresswell's contracts. Simonsen, Britton and Nosworthy must also be very high earners. I think Birch and McCabe must have become a bit pissed off with Blackwell moaning about his small squad when it's Blackwell who's chosen how to spend the budget.
