How can a guy be the forum's most eminent optimist and yet such a massive downer at the same time?

optimistic we can return to the top but we are starting from where we are , its realism , some think we are a prem team by right , but only about 6 clubs fill that criteria, we have been gash for 40 years , even in the prem we didnt perform to any level ,, I started watching us when we were a fixture in the top , but we aint been for so long and our right to be there has to start from where we are , not when Currie played .

I think he means the one that can afford to spend millions on a fullback alone.

some investment finally made 8 week ago , surprised we arent on the verge of europe after 2 month
we have to let the investment turn into improvement , its not instantaneous ,took southampton 2 years from getting new owners of course some blades expect it in months

So, when the future looked so bright - investment, new pitch etc., the board have, as usual, blown it by employing a manager with absolutely no track record of success.

Tedious football we can accept, as long as it's accompanied by some success. The current rubbish is making Blackwell/Wilson seem like Brazil-like coaches.

Blackwell and Wilson both failed in a playoff final - you should at least afford Clough the chance to (a) get us there and (b) see if we win one.

The continued castigation of Clough before the season has concluded is just staggering by some.

No, it's not good - but neither has the season finished.

You're right to suggest we should be patient, but no doubt your definition of this will differ to mine. But you also play down the gulf in resources avbailable to Clough compared to most of the teams we're competing against.

As you're not local thse days, you'll probably miss many of the games. You can choose to make you own conclusions, but it's clear to me we've built a very large squad of "samey" players. Given the size and expense, it's really disappointing that we're still short on numbers both up front and in defence, and by Clough's own admission, we can't compete physically. Put all that aside and judge of performance - it realy is dull as dicth water to watch us in action this season, not just lately. What's more, results have started to follow the displays.

It's depressing stuff right now.

Remember that idea of giving the new manager at least 3 years to turn round our club ?
From the sinking shambles of consecutive defeats and shambles that was our club.
A year and a bit later that goes out of the window despite some great cup runs ,an almost complete change of players and a place in the play offs with 10 games to go.
I would hate to be in the trenches with some of you lot.

whats depressing , play offs were always the most likely scenario in our stage of development , if we had got the players we wamted in august wed be 6 months further on , but thats history , we got draws at scunny and walsall and they are grounds we dont get points friom and remain 5th with 10 to go
I hate to burst your bubble but if you can tell me any season where most games arent as dull as dishwater Id like to know when , even remembering winning at leicester 5 -2 to go up half the games that season were fucking awful to watch .

Chelsea will most likely win the prem this season , but Ive seen some fucking awful games with them and 700 m pounds worth of talent on display-
Perhaps we should all long to be in the championship like wednesday and orgasm over the 4 home wins theyve watched ib 18 home games , thats real good watching aint irt

Very true but the big team also has up to 4x the budget to help cope with the situation. Despite the challenges we may well be down here another year and not many of those "big clubs" suffered so long despite the super-charged opposition. Lets face it Silent when we first joined League 1 many of the games were such one sided home wins it got boring, not any more, for that reason anyway.
I have always hated it when we are in the lower divisions and dont really enjoy the one sided wins against small clubs. I played football on Saturdays between 1979 and mid 1980s as I preferred this than watching the Blades. Some fans say that the 1981-82 season was their favourite ever and I find this hard to understand as it was nothing like any of my first 5 years of watching the Blades regularly (1970-75). When we got relegated in 2011 I was hoping that it would be a short spell in the lower divisions but it has dragged on too long and we might have gone up had we not sacked Wilson in 2013. We MUST stick with Clough and SUPPORT him for the rest of this season

mk dons are up there vying because robinsons had 3 years to get it together, perhaps they shouldnt be with their shit fans , but they are , so even the 70 who went to oldham last night will show you dont need a lot of fans just some time to develop a side

whats depressing
The style of play, the lack of excitement, the results, the direction of travel, the league position

I enjoyed all but the least 2 years under Basset, I enjoyed most of the football under Warnock. I enjoyed Blackwell's first season, Wilson's first season, Clough's first season. Your statement isn't true, from my perspective. Just about every game this season has been like watching aopint dry. We are a negative team, simple as that.

I think you should take some time to regather your senses. If your argument is that we could be eating shit instead of drinkling urine, then I'll leave you to it :)

All I know is that it hasn't been fun watching us this seasson. This is from someone with a fairly low bar on enjoyment levels.

I'd give him 2 years which, given that l'm asking him to build from a disgracefully low level given our stature, is more than reasonable.

It doesn't alter the fact that we have every right to complain when the football is wank, and it's wank right now.

So weve had no good games at all this season , , trouble is when we go up you only remember the good bits , you obviously forgot the home defeats the draws the hammering at west ham , its called selective memory , You enjoy it all when theres a happy ending , if we win the play offs I will only remember the good games , I too can conveniently forget the days we werent that good which are and always have been many .

I feel sorry for you if we do win the play off as it will obviously give you no pleasure at all as Clough will probably stay and thoroughñy depress you

I think theres a right to criticise , but some children of the twitter age have turned it into a form of trolling , i think mistakes have been made but dont tend to dwell on them AND USE IT AS A STICK TO BEAT THE CLUB WITH

I'll enjoy promotion like the next man, but you are right in that I won't be happy medium term if this is the style if football that we are destined for.

Let's be fair there's nothing I can say, or that will happen, to make you entertain a single negative thought about United, so this exchange is really pointless.

Ive said theres improvements needed but we are 5th with 10 to go which is a lot better than 12 months ago , we are far from the finished article true , but we didnt give Clough 200m to buy players so cant expect Jose Mourinho style improvements , We may have a respected name in football but as always until we get a group of better players than we had when Clough came , on the grass we aint going nowhere , we are mid process there

We need to be hitting a run of good form from now on , thats all that matters ,
