Win Promotion via Play-offs: New 3 year contract.

Lose in Play-offs: Leave in post and expect Top 2 challenge from the off next season, otherwise 'part by mutual agreement' in October.

Fail to make play-offs: Resign.

I haven't wanted a manager to succeed as much, on a personal level, since Bassett. However, Cloughie's had good backing and the least we should expect this season is a good run in the Play-offs. Failure to finish in the top 6 will mean clubs of far lesser means will have finished above us and this is unacceptable, despite all of the many positives achieved over the past 18 months.

For now, the only option for 'supporters' is to give Cloughie and the team their full backing and do our utmost to make it happen.

Anything but up and I think he should go. Unless we have a great run and he's very unlucky in the play off final.

If we were to lose out next two games, I think the board may think about making that decision for him. I don't think we will lose either of them for the record.

the worry is, if by some miracle we were to go up, we'd be set for years of negative football.

11 to go and in 5th
most clubs would be ready to offer a contract on that alone , but we are different

Or, as NC would say 'I'd have swapped for that a year ago.' Unfortunately, an increasing number of us wouldn't. Absolutely minimal progress is being made, the quality is dire and fans have had enough.

We won't be in 5th for very much longer.

Yeah right.

Given the size of our club and the backing Clough has received we should be top 2.
what in 12 months , , your expectations vastly exceed reality

size of our club ,, you mean the one thats had 5 top flight seasons in the past 40 years

think some fans have greatly inflated views on our status

I'm not a moaner, but we've just not done it this season and it's been patchy at best. NC needs to shoulder responsibility for that.

What annoys me is people chucking the towel in whilst we're still in the mix. Just can't understand that attitude from fans when there's still a decent chance. In any competition, you've got to keep 'at it' until the end.

What about gets us promoted then resigns? I think that's the top option along with fails to get in the play-offs and resigns.

weve just not done what , its not over yet , was always most likely our progression this season would be via the play offs , we had tostart from scratch especially as we couldnt buy the players we wanted in august as the clubs wouldnt sell them

we get up via the play offs , some will still slag Clough mercilessly , its the blades way

No club would be offering him a new contract on this season's league form thus far, given he's brought over 20 players in, cancelled contracts and only had to sell one player

How can a guy be the forum's most eminent optimist and yet such a massive downer at the same time?

To outsiders he has got a team that was threatened with relegation into two semi finals in the space of a year. Do you really think no other club will offer him a job? This is why I think he will leave whatever happens, our supporters have delusions of grandeur that no manager could ever meet.

we will see in May

This. Nothing more and nothing less. We could get promoted and we will all be happy. We could not and we will all be unhappy. Who stays and who goes. Who resigns and who doesn't all rests on promotion. Wish people would stop wanking on until then one way or the other.

No - what they see is the pre-season favourites spending lots of money and struggling to maintain a play off position. Add the negative, pedestrian and boring football and I doubt there will be a queue of clubs offering jobs to Clough. If he leaves any time soon I would be amazed if he was offered a job in the top 2 divisions or even a top L1 team.

As for delusions of grandeur, are you really suggesting Sheffield United should be content with L1 football?

You've changed your tune. You predicted automatic promotion, as you do every year.

I think we've no chance of going up with Clough, so anyone else could improve our chances.
No way of knowing either way. It'd depend who we'd get in, still if we didn't go up there would always be that question of would we have gone up if we didn't sack him, just like Wilson. In retrospect I'd have kept Wilson till the end, would you ?

We might as well have kept Wilson cause we put Morgan in charge who was already part of the coaching staff.

There will always be questions when the season ends in failure. How we are playing at the moment (didn't go tonight so can't really comment) I honestly can not see how Clough is going to turn things around.

That's what I'm afraid of, us saying we may as well have kept him because we didn't go up.

I'm certain Clough won't take us up, so see appointing a new manager as being nothing to lose for the remainder of the season. But I do think a new bloke would also find it very difficult to get us up this season, so I'd like to see us go for someone like Adkins who I think would be very much capable of getting us promoted next season.

Adkins yes but when was the last time our board made the right choice. Stick or twist time

I fancy our chances with clough in playoffs over any other realistic replacement.

What makes you believe in him so much?

Neil Warnock was a PO specialist yet we lost that final 3-0 in 45 minutes!

Best case scenario this season is don't get embarrassed on TV in semis.

Like we did at Yeovil after sacking a manger in the hope it'd get us up?

The cup games. It's pure hope though. I'm not confident but it's a knockout and he's done ok in that scenario.

God knows why we sacked Wilson and I doubt getting NN out now would do much good either.

I've put our results this season against the other PO contenders in another thread and they are not pretty. Imagine going to Swindon or MK Dons in an away 2nd leg needing to over turn a 1-0 deficit from the 1st leg?

90 minutes of aimless sidewards passing while the opposition put 10 men behind the ball.

The play offs are not one off FA Cup games against Premier League sides. They are 2 legged dog fights against big physical teams that having already played us twice know our weaknesses.

Go Yeovil! Go Crawley Go Fleetwood.
Think some fans haven't a clue of the size of the clubs we've competed against FINANCIALLY for the past 5 years.

Think ONE 'fan' should read this before they decry our long and proud history.
