Err no. Very harsh. If anything Spackman was over-achieving at the club. I'm not sure he had any choice but to resign did he? He was treated appallingly.

McDonald and Green were cunts (and I don't use that word lightly). It wasn't just Fjortoft and Deane being sold (and Hutchinson, and the attempted sale of Gareth Taylor, and....), it was the way they went about it. The story goes that Spackman rang Deane to find out why he was late at training, to be told by Deane that he'd been sent to Lisbon to talk to Benfica!

McDonald and Greene were snakes, nothing was ever their fault. The only time they talked in the press was to twist the knife into a departed player/manager ("Deane asked for a transfer", saying the same about Fjortoft and calling him lazy, saying Spackman quit because he couldn't hack it without Willie Donachie, and so on).

By their own admittance they were in football to make money, in any way possible. They are the sort of people who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near football.
Agree about our owners at the time but I don't think we were over-achieving with Spackman. I think, before the sales, we should have been comfortably in the autos.

History re-written. Of course they were cunts but Spackman was a wiling puppet. Charles Green, cunt though he was, scouted and signed Borbokis and Dellas. Spackman had never heard of either until they arrived at the club. The same applied to other recruitment, notably Brian Deane, the choice of McDonald and Green, not the carpet they walked on, name of Spackman. He walked out in a cowardly fashion immediately before an FA Cup quarter final. Useless article.

Spackman was a very poor mabager. He failed at three clubs; didn't last a full season at anyone of them and has nobody has knocked on his door since.

The Bladey myth ignores all this, of course.

I thought Kendall had been to see Borbokis play prior to taking up the Everton job?

Totally, how many times have we had players in recent years who you're screaming SHOOT at and they take an extra touch or pass to someone else, too unwilling to take the chance themselves

That was our entire midfield last season wasn't it?

Three years? Hmmm....

Hopefully he'll be on wages that won't make him impossible to offload if we don't want to keep him for those three years though.

Chris Wilder has bolstered his striking options with the new 2016-17 campaign nearing.

The Blades boss has swooped to make Leon Clarke his seventh summer signing, with the striker joining the Blades on a three-year deal, after United agreed an undisclosed fee with Bury for Clarke's services.

The experienced marksman is no stranger to Blades fans and until now has very often been United's nemesis.

Clarke has always had the knack of popping up with goals against the Blades for a number of clubs, notably during his time at Coventry City, but as recently as last term, the 31-year-old netted with a well taken lob in Bury's 3-1 success at Bramall Lane.

The much-travelled marksman has scored goals wherever he has been, whether it be permanently or on-loan. At Coventry, he formed a deadly partnership with Callum Wilson and for the Shakers in 2015-16, Clarke averaged a goal every two starts, netting 18 times in 36 appearances.

On his latest recruit, Wilder remarked: "We are delighted to secure his signature, we've worked hard to get Leon over the line.

"He is widely recognised as one of the top centre forwards in the division and he will complement what we already have in our strike force.

"We have youth, legs, ability, pace and experience and all can score goals. Leon is experienced and knows the division very well, he we will lead the line and the added bonuses are that he is a good character and still has the desire to achieve."

3 year deal though!!?! Wow. Thought it would be 2 years max.

Still, I think he'll prove a decent signing at this level.

The fact it's a three year deal suggests he won't be on excessive wages.

So he shouldn't be impossible to move on should we want to.

3 years. Hmmm.

Hopefully there will be no Cresswell-like falling off a cliff at any point.

I assume this seals at least one sale.

Hmmm think I mentioned this one a couple of weeks ago :-)

I'm pleased with this. At last we have someone up front who will put the fear of god up defenders, just by being there. Hopefully the rest of the forwards will benefit.

3 year deal will have been the only way we could have landed the player , which gives Clarke security .

If we achieve our aim of promotion , it's worth it . Can always do a Hammond with him.

Priority Promotion . Good signing . We all should be happy .

Says he'll lead the line, so probably a starter with Sharp - Not the big man to throw on if/when chasing a game?

Looking like 4-4-2 then? I can't really work a first XI out at the moment.

David Flitcroft quotes :“Leon is a fantastic goalscorer at this level and I feel privileged to have worked with him over this last season. We got him to a level where he was enjoying his football and scoring goals again. It is very difficult when a club the size of Sheffield United makes your player their number 1 target, as it is very difficult for us to compete with their financial power."

Leon Clarke quotes:“ Unfortunately I have made the decision to leave Bury, I have been made very welcome from day one and have really enjoyed my football during the course of last season.”

“The manager was very open and honest about Sheffield United’s interest and it must have been difficult for him as I know he desperately wanted to keep me and worked tirelessly trying to convince me to stay."

“The decision was made more difficult due to the relationships I have forged with the Chairman, the board of directors, the manager, staff, players and also the fantastic fans. I have had a difficult 12 months personally and I have never experienced the level of support I received from everyone connected to the football club and this helped me maintain my focus on the field.”

“The challenge of playing at a big club again who are promotion favourites were ultimately the major factors in my decision to want to join Sheffield United.”

“I found it difficult to tell the manager of my decision due to his commitment to me. He really tried everything possible to keep me but my mind was made up and I am now looking forward to next season with Sheffield United.”

“Finally I would like to thank everyone at Bury Football Club and wish them well this season.”

The above quotes took from Bury's website. I know many Blades have expressed concern at Clarke's professionalism and/or attitude over the years but reading what both Flitcroft and Clarke have said should be reassuring. I mean how many times have we sold a player who was a fans favourite and the club and the fans have been great to the player, and yet the player has just said nothing about their spell at the Lane, choosing only to say how amazing the new club is. Kevin McDonald springs to mind. Fair play to Leon, seems we've got a good egg here, as opposed to the Bellend that some have said he is or was. Of course we don't now him personally but I'm impressed with what he's said today.

From official site....... We have youth, legs, ability, pace ...... And we've also got Leon. Joshin, welcome to the blades Leon.

Hope he's in tonight's squad

From what we've got currently and assuming Clarke is going to start I think Wilder would be looking at the following..

.....................Long...............

Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey

....Done Basham Fleck Duffy...

............Sharp... Clarke..............

Personally I'm not sure that midfield 2 is strong enough and expected us to play 4-2-3-1, where Wilder's favoured style involves a big man with raiding midfielders getting up to support (Reading 2006 anyone?). The problem is that obviously that system doesn't have a place for Sharp, so I imagine he'll start with something similar to the above team.

Should be a good signing, but doesn't automatically sort out goals. Still think we need a couple more to improve the service.
