Wilder gets his man....good stuff.

For those moaning/worried about the 3 year deal, just think of it as a lot less than what Higgo was on!

If we go up, everyone's a winner, if we don't, we'll still need him in L1.

UTB!

Good business in my view.

Proven goalscorer v future potential.

Only one winner in our present position.

Would rather keep both but only if Adams's attitude is spot on.

I completely agree. Losing Adams wouldn't be a bad thing if the deal is negotiated well (i.e getting someone decent coming the other way on loan or a good transfer fee).

From what we've got currently and assuming Clarke is going to start I think Wilder would be looking at the following..

.....................Long...............

Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey

....Done Basham Fleck Duffy...

............Sharp... Clarke..............

Personally I'm not sure that midfield 2 is strong enough and expected us to play 4-2-3-1, where Wilder's favoured style involves a big man with raiding midfielders getting up to support (Reading 2006 anyone?). The problem is that obviously that system doesn't have a place for Sharp, so I imagine he'll start with something similar to the above team.
Which shows why we need at least three more signings, four, if you're not a fan of George.

They need to be good ones too.

Good to get a proven goalscorer into the team. And even if he is an ex-pig I dont think any Blade will mind if he bangs in 15 goals and gets us promoted. Lets just hope he`s over his "personal issues"

Yeah, I just hope he gets a better reception than Richard Creswell did when he got booed onto the pitch on his debut. I hate that mentality. I don't care who they played for before as long as they do the business.

I thought Duffy is a right winger mate, and Wilder's said he's not playing Done anywhere but up front hasn't he? We tried him on the wing last season, albeit as a wing back and Done didn't impress there. I hope Wilder goes for a left winger next, and Morsy for the middle would be quality.

Says he'll lead the line, so probably a starter with Sharp - Not the big man to throw on if/when chasing a game?

Looking like 4-4-2 then? I can't really work a first XI out at the moment.

You will when Morsy sign's...

Well done Wilder , another piece of the jigsaw...we've been missing this type of player for....ooooooooo, donkeys years....

With the current players I'd expect:

.....................Long...............

Brayford Wilson O'Connell Hussey

.............. Basham .... Fleck ...............

....Adams.........Sharp.........Duffy....

...................... Clarke......................

So long as Sharp is still getting into the box at every opportunity it could work.

Expect Adams to go and be replaced, as well as another CB signed as priority. Personally I hope Long and Basham are replaced too, but can't see it with Long.

A 3 year contract for a 31 year old lower league journeyman, bought (possibly) at the expense of a 19 year old with significant potential - is one view, the other.....

A 3 year contract for a 31 year old proven lower league goal scorer with experience of getting teams promoted, bought (possibly) at the expense of an inconsistent 19 year old who may or may not fulfill his potential.

The choice is yours.

Not so sure he'll be a starter every game personally. I think he brings a depth to the squad that we didn't have before, though.

As for formation, I think it adds a bit of flexibility. I'd possibly expect to see a 4-4-1-1 with Sharp behind Clarke, meaning Clarke can hold the ball up and knock it down for Billy if he's not in a position to have a pop himself. Then a CAM (Scougall perhaps?) can come on for whoever needs a rest and a more conventional 4-2-3-1 could be used. Plenty of options.

Not sure what it all means for Adams, though. He's either not long for this club, or he's going to have to pick up his wing game.

We've actually done pretty well out of our ex pigs haven't we!! Cresswell did well for us, but he was at the back end of his carer with us, and past his best but he still did a job, particularly at the beginning under Blackwell. Geary, Quinny and Bromby all were popular in their time with us, I can't see Clarke been any different and I've always liked him since he broke his toe and ruined the Pigs chance of staying up! Now that was funny! I know we all have piggy mates who'll be doing their best laughing at us today signing one of their rejects etc, etc but they also know that signing Leon is going to significantly increase our chances of promotion so let them laugh, I really don't care! Welcome Leon!

Welcome Leon Clarke, adding some much needed height and physicality to our forward play. A proven goal scorer at this level, well done Mister Wilder.

Agreed, that was shocking when Cressy came on, the lad ended up putting his body on the line, time after time for SUFC.

They laughed when we signed Alan Quinn......then he scored against them :D

As for Geary, I would've given anything to have a player with his character and work ethic in last years team.

So yeah, I hope the tradition continues.

I hope the fee was something that really pissed Flitcroft off. 3 year deal for a 31 year old is a bit mad I would have said 2 years max but he may work out.

Didn't the pigs have a song for him "He eats chips and gravy, he looks like Jordan's baby, Leon Clarke"?

He was at the Hallam FC game last night, along with Brayford, Sharp, McNulty, Adams, and others who didn't play. Good to see the team supporting the lads who are on the way up (Academy) and also the lads who are transfer listed, shows a bit of comradeship.

Just the sort of player we should have signed 3 years ago, I am surprised we got him before someone departed which suggests to me we haven't paid a lot for him and that could explain the 3 year deal for a 31 year old. I think we have seen the last of Che which is a shame really but he is one of those players who you wonder what is their best position and where will he fit in? a luxury we maybe can't afford just now.

I thought Duffy could play both but being honest I've seen very little of him, I'm just going on the friendlies. Same with Done, he seemed to drift out into a wider position in the Grimsby game, though I thought it was far more fluid than a standard 4-4-2.

My preference would be a 4-2-3-1, similar to the one ThroughThinAndThinner suggested above. I also agree that I think Adams will leave and we'll need another winger in to replace him, possibly from a PL team on loan.

I'd love us to sign Morsy but the bits I've seen it's starting to look unlikely. We do look weak in terms of depth at CM though, as I'm not sure Whiteman or Reed are ready to make any significant contribution to a promotion push should anything happen to Basham or Fleck.

Can't see any relevance in the Pig connection - at the end of the day a player ply's his trade at any club requiring his services, after all its a short career, so good luck to him (and us)
Imagine if we drew the Pork in a cup game and he scored the winner...

Fair enough mate, cheers for the info. I've not seen any of the friendlies either. I would guess that signing Clarke means we'll be playing two up front now, as I can't see either Sharp or Clarke wanting to drift wide as part of a three men supporting attacking midfield.

As for Adams, if we get a decent fee I'll not be disappointed at him going. I can't see us keeping all the current forwards happy. Something has to give surely! Maybe Adams will be played on the left as you said.
