Michael Andrew @Michaelpandrew, a freelance journo is saying Leon Clarke joining and Che Adams interest is ongoing. The Bury Times journalist Michael McKenzie is saying Leon Clarke is the headline on their back page tomorrow but naturally won't say what the news is!

Spotted at the Lane today. Can't reveal source but someone I have known many years and would trust.

Hope that's Bramall Lane not Gigg Lane?! Sorry that's just not funny but its my best effort! Its interesting that the Bury local rag has said since yesterday that Leon Clarke is the headline for their back page, like they know something's going to happen on that day?!

Clarke alone is not the answer . If he comes in ship out Done , McNulty as too much of a muchness.

If Clarke bloke comes in , also get Hanson or Pope . We ain't in the right league for football snobbery purist .

Still way short IMO . Also last nights friendly to me sorted the men from the boys and has beens

If we added Pope as well as Clarke then we'd have three big men in Clarke, DCL and Pope, not including Adams who is probably going to go. I think one of Done or McNulty could go but probably won't until Wilder decides which one he wants more.

Re Michael Andrew @Michaelpandrew. He only joined this month and has 95 tweets. Whilst he might be right a pinch of salt is required I think

When are we going on start using the pot marked for up and coming players? Pope and Clarke are likely to make me cry. Let's see some fresh young hungry talent too please

I don't want Pope but we're not in a position to full the team full of up and coming players, we need people now that are ready, but Fleck and O'Connell surely fit into up and coming. You won't be crying if Leon bags us 18 goals this season like he did last season for an average Bury team. He is worth a guaranteed 20 goals in this league, its a no brainer. Yes I wish he was 5 or so years younger but he is still decent and will compliment Billy up top.

If we had signed him in Wilson's second season when we had the chance instead of relying on Kitson we would have gone up that season.

Stop fannying about United and get him in for this season.

DCL is not "big" in my book, he is tall, but not "big" (stocky), Leon Clarke is big, Pope is big-ish, Hanson is big-ish, Jon "Beast" Parkin was very big!

He's tall and if he wants to play up front I reckon he'll have to learn the art of holding the ball up and using his strength etc. But you're right he's not big like say the Chief was, but Deano was slight at 19 too remember.

So he got 18 last season, but he's guaranteed to get 20?

David Flitcroft has said we made a `comical 5 figure bid` for Clarke, which he & the player laughed down (reported in the Bury Times)

Dosen`t sound like we are anywhere near at the moment.

Flitcroft laughing at us....

BURY have rejected what manager David Flitcroft described as a "comical" bid from Sheffield United for star striker Leon Clarke, but are inviting offers for fellow front man Tom Pope.

It is understood the Blades' attempted to prize away Clarke on the cheap, offering a low five-figure sum, an amount that left the Bury boss fuming.

But despite interest in the striker from one of the League One's biggest spenders, Flitcroft is still eager to let Pope go, confirming the former Port Vale forward has been placed in the transfer list.

“It has been an interesting week,” he said. “We have had no bids for any players except from Sheffield United for Leon.

“The bid was comical, in fact, it was embarrassing. When the bid came in I pulled Leon to the side to tell him, like I always do with any player when a bid comes in for them, to let him know.

“I told Leon the amount and he absolutely laughed it down. It was such a derogative offer.”

After signing on a free transfer from Wolves last season, the 31-year-old scored 18 goals for the Shakers despite missing spells of the season due to personal issues.

As Bury look to build on last season's success, Flitcroft has outlined his desire to keep Clarke at Gigg Lane and laughed off the sheer audacity of the bid from the Blades, especially given the current price tag for fellow League One strikers.

“I don't want to sell Leon, he is the best striker in League One,” Flitcroft said.

“Millwall want £2million for Lee Gregory and Nicky Ajose went to Charlton for nearly £1million with add ons, and Sheffield United put a bid in as low as they did.

“Leon doesn't have a price tag, but if we were to sell it would have to be for a lot higher than the current offer. You just don't replace Leon Clarke, he's just too good.

“We brought him in on a free transfer and even with all the personal things that have gone on off the pitch he still managed to score nearly 20 goals last season while missing a lot of games.

“I do not want to lose a player of Leon's quality. We have invested so much time and effort into him and built a fantastic relationship.”

The decision to put Pope on the transfer list could be a sign as to how determined Bury are to keep hold of Clarke.

Following the summer departures of strikers Danny Nardiello, Ryan Lowe and Danny Rose, Pope, Clarke and new signing Nicky Clark are the only senior strikers currently on the Bury books.

But Flitcroft revealed that. as part of his rebalancing process, Pope has become surplus to requirements.

He said: “We have placed Tom on the transfer list and the loan list.

“Pope is another one of our high-end earners and if we offload him then it gives us the chance to reassess and rebalance the squad.

“Tom didn't get much game time last season and it gives him the chance to go out and play some games.

“It has been a big summer. We have got rid of 12 players and Pope could be the 13th.”

'Best striker in League One'

That is a tad embarrassing, though. Five figures for someone like him in today's market is never gonna happen.

So much for 'paying the going rate'!

Low 5 figure sum? £20k? £50k?

Haven't we gone back in with a higher bid?

Seems strange that it was rumoured Clarke was at the Lane yesterday, so how come we have permission to speak to him if our paltry bid was laughed at and thrown out?

Anyway, if they want too much then fk off and let Wilder look elsewhere. Wilder has a valuation. If they are too far apart then bollux

Clough always said `no one accepts the first bid`,

Just a way of registering interest, hopefully reach an agreement soon.
