Outgoing? Chris Wilder

Might be true they’re meeting on Wilder but an utterly clickbait driven piece nonetheless.

The easy thing for them to do was to back him in their end of season statement.
They didn't.
Which suggests to me that the decision hasn't been made yet.

I don't think their vision will align with Wilder's in terms of player recruitment, which is going to be fundamental to their ongoing relationship.

Wilder blew £10m of their cash on Cannon and failed to win promotion, so I think any leverage he had on recruitment strategy has probably deteriorated quite badly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wilder isn't in charge come August.

Is there any manager in world football that would align with AI picking their players, though? If any decision on a manager is based on that, we're in trouble.

Don’t think it’s literally ChatGTP making the signings. They’re probably analysed then passed on to the manager to decide who he thinks.

I’m completely with you. It just read like an article which didn’t feel especially informed.

Well on the first post .yes and your second one is well ..nonsense
Because they have mentioned using ai to scout players that means they are getting skynet to run the club does it. ?

Yes Brighton and Brentfords transfer policy for the last decade at least. Savvy owners who are data driven and the manager gets little choice. Worked for them hasn't it?

Not saying its the best way forward but the owners were very clear in their statement how player acquisition is going to happen going forward.

It might be a purely financial decision. Maybe they’ve calculated that escalating fines for failing to control players will end up being significantly more than the value of his remaining contract so they’re sacking him to save money.
Let's no forget his inability to manage talent

Managers work under all sorts of recruitment structures - the fact ours could be AI doesn't matter at all. Wilder needs to adapt.

The only thing against AI driven recruitment for me is personality.

Apart from that I am all for it. It's just like buying a car on Auto-Trader, you put in your parameters, price, year, body-style, economy, performance and it spits out a load of suggestions. you will rule out a few straight away but there will be some that you will look into a bit more and maybe "test drive", (trial) to see what they are like...the only problem is that if you go ahead and buy one then it turns out to be a bit dodgy it's really hard to get your money back!

I hope they have someone else lined up if they are planning to sack Wilder. Don't want to waste most of the summer looking for a new manager.

Working with US clients daily i am sure they will have someone lined up before they pull the trigger. These guys know what they are doing, they aren't "Chancers"....

For me we keep with wilder and carry on the rebuild and hope we play a more exciting formation for this season. Tired of the same players names we are linked with wilder or look at bringing in cooper.

I think sacking a manager who earned 94 points (a record for a team not promoted) and narrowly missed out on promotion in a 50-50 play off final (where we broke the record for the biggest defeat in the semis) would be highly controversial in the football world and sends the wrong message.

IMO.

And why would you extend his contract to 2028 only 5 months ago to flip flop at the first bit of trouble. Again sends out the wrong message.

If you anlyse his mangerial perfromance since the 9th Prem finish

  1. Terrible Season with us during Covid and poor recrtuirment. Left through the back door
  2. Started well with Middlesbrough but then completely fell away which then saw Carrick take that team to the brink of promotion.
  3. Went to Watford and had a torrid time, albiet at a club in turmoil
  4. Came back to us in the Prem, and took our bad performances and made them even worse. Extremley poor squad however and no manager could have stopped relegation, but we could have made more of a fight of it. Some bizzare media comments such as "Sandwich gate"
  5. In the Championship. he had 3rd highest Wage budget in the league and spent signifcant outlay on transfers. Took us to 92 points but we were 10th in the league for creating "dangerous chances" which suggests our points tally might have flattered us. Struggled against the best clubs in the league. Universally dislked by most other clubs/fans and his team have had huge fines for ill discipline.

I do think if it wasn't for his SUFC connections, and his increadible turnaround of the club in 2016-2020 then I would be 95% confident the new owners would have moved him on.

But I think its time for a fresh start, investing in a manger with a new ethos and a plan. People might say "What about Slav" - but we still were very restricted financially and didn't allow him to build the team/squad he needed. I also never fully rated him as a manager and tink he was the wrong choice.

People also forget it was a very turbulant season off the field especially at the start of the season when we were trying to bring players in but had no clue who was gonna fund it pending a takeover (owners wasn't even in charge at the start of the season).

To come through that and still earn 94 points after seeing a squad overhaul is pretty remarkable tbh.

Some might also think Bryan Robson, Nigel Adkins, David Weir. Its fine swapping the manager but you still need someone who understands the club, its ethos its fans or its careful what you wish for.

It would be ruthless. But sometimes you have to be ruthless in order to take a step forward. Hell, even Leeds contemplated changing managers and they won the division.

I wonder if we worry to much about him being a manager? The structure will be players bought by the club using a modern approach like other clubs are doing.

Then we have a head coach whose job it is to get the best out of the players assigned to them, as in most walks of life. The manager approach has gone.

The question really is can Chris be a successful head coach under these conditions. Only him and club can decide that.

Honestly I could see this happening. If the owners are planning to splash the cash this summer in the hope of getting us up I'm not sure they'd be that keen on giving the money to Wilder based on what happened in the JTW.
