I played cricket against Chris at Castledyke in 1995. He was very approachable and easy to talk to. He asked for my thoughts on the Blades season just gone (1994-95) and it made me think "He could make a good football manager!"

I'm not saying I haven't done this either. We all learn on these message boards.

I had a great deal of knowledge. I knew of his record and had seen his mediocre Oxford team on multiple occasions. They played turgid football, nothing remotely like we see now. The first seeds of the wonderful Tuftyball now delighting (most of) us were sown at Northampton. My mistake was to give insufficient weight to the most recent evidence. I said all this three years ago.

I’m genuinely delighted everyone can have a laugh at my expense on this one. It reminds me that my team are playing superb football and, to coin a phrase ‘we are Premier League...’

Just a word of caution. Watch the Hoofers, Knee-Jerkers and Jellybabies turn on Tufty when we’re losing a lot more games next season. When he leaves, watch them call for a replacement who will bring back grotesque anti-football. They are still missing it and pining for it to return to it’s spiritual home in S2. The first Gerritinearly is only an all too brief Summer away.

I think we’re all delighted for him Brownie. A genuine lad who’s put every club ahead of himself and done his best for them. He’s put himself on the cross at times as well. Like at Northampton when he spoke out about the owners.

You don’t meet many folks in life like that.

It's easy to look back in hindsight but there's no guarantee that the Chris Wilder of 2013 would have been as much as a success as the 2016 version. Alan Knill didn't join Chris at Northampton until January 2014, so there's no knowing if they would still have worked together.

Extremely good shout. There will always be rumours (nothing more than that) about 'he could have gone to Charlton', 'was he on the point of going to Sunderland?' etc. etc. but maybe he was playing mind games with the board, much like Pochettino is doing at Spurs.

Every time a top managers job comes up, he'll be 'linked' - either by lazy journos or shit-stirrers at S6. A mate range me today and told me he's been 'linked' to the Brighton job. I'm not ITK but CW and his family are extremely happy and settled in Sheffield, and why not? There's a reason ex-players and managers choose to stay and live in Sheffield. I don't think CW is the type of bloke to chase the money, uproot his family etc. (like Bruce).

Also on Football Focus last Saturday, he stated that 'he was in charge of everything' at United - recruitment, team selection, transfers etc. Which other club would give him that?

You must have passed on some great thoughts to him to turn him into the manager he has become. If we lose a few matches early doors next season, make sure you have another chat with him...
