Agree......our 1st season back in the top flight just shows how brain washed, influenced and stupid most football fans are.
It’s like in the story “The Emporers New Clothes”, if you repeat something enough, doesn’t matter how stupid or unreasonable it is
then it becomes true and accepted by virtually everyone.
The Arsenal fan Hughwizzy talks about it on his YouTube channel.
He says how some of the football experts can’t have done any research because in early matches they say Sheff Utd are a basic long ball side.
This Arsenal fan says if Wilder was foreign the media would be lauding him as a tactical genius regards his overlapping centre backs.
He also says he’s watched us and can’t see what these supposed experts have been watching because he says we play neat passing football.
For example most PL fans judge ability based on transfer fee and cost.
So they prefer an expensive big name that’s plays poorly compared to an unknown player who performs brilliantly.
At the moment no fans of other clubs would take any of our players apart from maybe Mousset because most are classed as cheap and nasty.
They prefer a good looking foreign player even if he’s crap compared to a plain looking over weight English manager.
and if that English manager has a strong northern accent then it’s a definite no..no..
As I say the snobbery of the average PL fan means we’ll be able to keep Wilder much longer.
Really think he‘s got to win honours with us and/ or get into Europe before any PL club shows interest.
There's much in your post that I hope is correct......but...can't quite work out the 'good looking foreign player' example, surely any club would want a player whose looks were on the 'ordinary' side yet a proven success rather than a good looking piece of mediocrity? If any supporters can't see why Stevens isn't comparable with the best left backs in this division then they're clueless. Same goes for our central back three of Egan, O'Connell and Basham, as sound a defensive unit as you'll find anywhere. wilder has gone back to basics, defence first, our midfield takes care of itself and can compete with the best this division has to offer (I might need to qualify that comment but so far we've looked capable and able to threaten the opposition, and if there's one area that needs addressing it's the one we've spent heavily (by our standards) on, which is attack. I'm sure Wilder had higher hopes for the new recruits but so far they've underwhelmed and need to get their act together when the opportunities arise. The one exception to this seems to be Mousset, so not all doom and gloom.
Agree about the snobbery of many supporters and their clubs, there seems to be a view, a misplaced one I should add, that suggests that to be able to deliver you need the silky skills of a foreign player to justify your existence. Not sure how this was arrived at, but there are plenty of British players who are better than average, yet somehow they seem to suffer from this prejudice that burdens them with the view that they simply aren't good enough.
Wilder has assembled astutely, been financially savvy in his recruitment, and has shown (I must add that the input of his colleagues would have been critical) he's been more than able in deciding who was purchased. Apart from a few players who, for whatever reason, haven't made the grade, we've shown that a price tag isn't the key factor in who we bring is. It's only been this season, at least by our standards, that we've 'flashed the cash', so I suspect that Wilder will have learnt a great deal from this experience and will ensure that this is one area that needs strengthening when recruiting in future. The overall conclusion is that the drive and purpose of our manager is what has enabled us to go from strength to strength, with no sign of anyone connected with the club being allowed to lose that sense of realism and purpose.
We're in exceptional (yes, you read right) hands, and as far as I can tell, as long as the directors of this cub match the manager's desire and drive that we'll continue to push forward. No complaints, and probably the best time to follow this club as far as I can recall. It doesn't matter whether you agree or disagree with my summation, just consider all of the above in the context of the modern game, the desperation that seems to have gripped clubs who long to belong on the Premier Division, and the anxiety that seems to follow if a club,
any club, lose a few games on the trot, and it's this that we should be mindful of. Don't panic if we lose a few, just allow our manager and his team to do what they seem very good at and tackle whatever comes their way. It's only a few years since I recall wondering if we'd ever get out of the trap of belonging to that rung of lower league clubs who couldn't escape their fate of travelling around the map of clubs who seem to drain the life out of clubs like United (no disrespect meant, but with our support and infrastructure it was abysmal that we underachieved so miserably)..........so here we are, our first season back in the top tier, and so far doing pretty well. I guess that once everything settles we'll see just how well we've done. At a guess I'd settle for mid to lower-mid Prem status, which would be little short of superb considering the journey we've been on these last few years.
Up the Blades I must add, we've still got a mountain to climb, but there's no need for despondency, in fact optimism and belief should be the things that we embrace between now and the end of this season.......oh, did I say how fucking delighted I am with how things are going so far?
