Has there ever been a better time to be a Blade ? Seriously , has there ?

I was too young to fully understand or experience our years under John Harris but remember very well the years of Bassett and Warnock . But there's something truly unique happening at the moment and its unlike anything ive experienced before .

Duffys comments don't just resonate on the playing side , they are comments that resonate throughout every single facet of the Club .

And as for us , the fans .... well , kick or disrespect one of our team and get ready for a reception at the Lane you'll never forget . Remember the idiot Madines disrespectful comments about ' our ' captain ? If they hadn't have dropped him and got him out of Sheffield as promptly as they did he'd have been very publically lynched when we played Bolton .

Thank you Mr Wilder we've finally got our club back

He gets the club and its fan base like no other manager in living memory, including Bassett and Warnock. He gets them because he’s one of them. When Wilder thumps ‘the badge’ it is not the superficial act of a player trying to curry favour with ‘the club faithful’ before scurrying off to the highest bidder. It is a demonstration of allegiance and passion from an authentic manager who really means it.

Damn right.

A genuine man of character, the first in our history to have the clubs blood running through his veins.

Unlike a certain charlatan from our recent history who played the "Super Blade" card before he got the face on when it became apparent that the club was bigger than his ego.

Played football through school with Mick Goober, and was pally for years.

His career was in reverse. Started moving up through the league's too late and ran out of years.

If his refuelling had been better when younger he could and should have played higher up imho.

It certainly is a fantastic time to be a Blade, and we have a manager that blinds any for years and years.

We've fallen on our feet with the appointment of Chris and Alan. Of course most attention will fall on Wilder's shoulders, no one has a problem with this particular cult of personality.
Wilder is insightful, considered, he clearly applies himself to the business of understanding those around him, and boy does it pay off, the dividends we're reaping are second to none.
For the first time in living memory I look forward to the acquisition of players that Wilder brings to the club. We have genuine quality throughout the squad, and you just know that whoever Wilder selects as a future Blade, they'll be a good 'un, not a mediocre lump who won't add an ounce of quality to what we have already. We have a goalie from Chelsea, a centre half from Tottenham, I can't recall a time when that would have been possible? It seems we're finally making the type of progress that we could have only dreamt of once upon a time.

I'm loathe to say it, but at the heart of our revival is one Christopher Wilder, and, of course, a certain Alan Knill. Chris is a problem solver, and he's fucking good at it. You just know that when, and it is a when, we take that step up to the Premiership, Wilder won't be out of place. He'll embrace everything the Premiership is about, and we'll compete in ways that will surprise those plodders and dullards that should have packed their bags years ago.

Look out world, there's a train coming your way called Sheffield United.....that head of steam you can see in the distance is getting closer and closer, and sooner than you think we'll rattle your comfortable existence as we take no prisoners amongst your over-paid, over valued footballers. UTMB!

Great post. I've got mates who are Liverpool season ticket holders and they're looking forward to the day when we rightfully take our seat at footballs top table. They've already seen us dismantle the massive pork. They want to play us in the fa cup as they know we'll give them a hell of a game!!. They still remember when a certain Micheal tonge destroyed them at bdtbl a few years ago!!. We're wilder's blades and what a fantastic time to be a blade.

I don't know Chris Wilder (or Alan Knill for that matter) personally, but he strikes me as a man of character, honor and integrity. Old fashioned values that go back to the days when a man stood by his word. Yes he likes a beer, yes, he is one of us, but I get the impression that Chris Wilder would be the bloke clipping some young louts round the ear for swearing in front of an OAP.

I don't think the lads play out of their skins for him, because he is the boss, I think they play out of their skins for him because he is Chris Wilder.

Some truly brilliant sentiments on a classic thread. Life is just great with these two guys in charge.
What I don't quite understand is why have other Managers not cottoned on to the simplest and most basic form of leadership that is producing such amazing results, with next to nothing spent. It's almost revolutionary in its simplicity.
Not since a certain duo in the East Midlands in the seventies have we seen anything like it.

Good question, and one I can never resist sharing a few thoughts on.
Reasons to answer 'yes':
1. The success of the last 12 months has been at a relatively low level, mainly 3rd tier.
2. A year is a short time in football. We have had so many false dawns, and if this all goes wrong during the rest of the season, we will look back at this as a great time, but not really changing things.
3. The current squad does not have (yet) the great players of the past - Currie and Woodward, Deane and Agana, Hodgkinson and Joe Shaw, Hagan, etc...
4. We have won the 3rd Division, a cause for great celebrations, but we have focussed entirely on the league, and not had the great Cup runs of the past.
Reasons to answer 'no':
1. The last year has exceeded our wildest dreams, and the team has achieved more than seemed possible 12 months ago.
2. The team play, spirit, ethic is better than it has ever been in my experience, beginning in 1953.
3. The togetherness around the club, from Board to admin to coaches to team to fans is unique in my experience.
4. Since last Xmas, as it became clear that something special was happening, I have looked forward to every game; after many years of feeling that going to a match was at least preferable to shopping at Meadowhall, that is a wonderful thing.
In conclusion, if this continues (i.e. doesn't fall apart), the answer may soon be 'no, there hasn't). I personally will probably always prefer the late 50s/early 60s, because I was young and new to football, and loved the years watching Hodgy, Joe and Graham Shaw, Pace, etc., but the reality is that they played football on a bog at the side of a cricket pitch, and didn't really win much... But that's nostalgia for you.
