Chris Porter HERO OR ZERO

porter is a superb header of the ball.. he wins nearly 'every' punt forward.. trouble is that we aren't set up to play hoofball these days and we don't want to start doing it at wembley on that massive pitch
Sorry Super but you cant call something that isnt linked to S6 as massive. Copyright and all that :)

He's scored 7 goals this season in 22 starts. That's actually not a bad record but in 19 substitute appearances, he hasn't scored once. That would suggest that he should either start or not be involved at all.

That could be my fault...

In Ollessandro's Beattie thread when he wanted to bet against everybody on here with regards to how many he would score etc...

I said. "I'll bet you that Beattie scores more than Porter going forward this season" and, i don't think Porter has scored since.

In order to get us back on track i'll make a fresh statement...

"I think Chris Porter is a very good player who I have every faith in. I honestly think he will finish in double figures (goals) this season!"

Pinchy, I'll take that as a compiment sir and raise a glass of alcopop to you :) ps I've got plenty of crapper footballer images, just not on my phone :)

Have you got Ched? I'll swap you my Liam Lawrence!

He was absolutely class tonight. Ran his bollocks off, won everything in the air, held it up well, played some nice passes and bagged the winner. Him and Quinny were immense.

Best game I've seen Quinn have for quite some time. He really was central to everything we did going forward tonight, including his surge forward in the run-up to the goal. A repeat of that type of performance is essential at Wembley, particularly if McDonald is now injured again.

I really rate Quinn in the free role. Earlier in the season when he was on fire it was because he was involved in everything rather than being stuck out on the wing. He'd come quite deep to collect the ball and move play on. He's not a winger.

I always thought Quinny was suited to playing in the hole behind the striker and the last two games have confirmed that.
Excellent display tonight by the Blades with an ever declining number of strikers available.
Pleased for Porter he worked so hard and maybe his goal will kick start his confidence to get more.
Certainly puts in a shift.
Danny got his tactics spot on in the last two games before Wembley.
UTB

he never was. pup jnr was wringing his hands for 83 minutes with me intermittently pointing out that apart from a couple of fluffs he wasnt responsible for bad crosses falling behind him etc and that as soon as we got him 6 yards and stuvk the ball on his head he would score. lo and behold!

The main criticism of quinn seems to be that he leaves his left back exposed. That was nullified tonight due to the formation we played, but it's not one i see us having much success with. Quinn is not a second striker.

For the record i don't think we would see half as much criticism of quinn if we had a better left back.

I thought Quinn was excellent tonight. It was always going to be a game that would be won by the odd goal. Porter took his header well, but what a ball from lowton....

I think the formation we played is the only one we can play given what players we have left. They couldn't pick Quinn up today and he seemed to go where he was needed. His link up play with Willo in particular was superb

I was delighted for Porter. He deserved that goal. Keep 'em coming Chris!

Doyle was excellent too.

I was gutted to see K-Mac go off but Willo, Quinn and Doyle really stood up to be counted. Well done lads.

All credit to the fans tonight. Far better than the League game. Let's take that spirit to London and double it.

Walking in a Wilson Wembleyland! :)

I'm sure you would have been highly amused to see Monty get himself into numerous good positions, but players blatantly refusing to pass to him. :)

Porter, Quinn, Doyle were the standouts for me, but I thought Monty did well much as I thought we were fucked when K-Mac went off.

It was a fantastic night but we've won nowt at this point!

Special mention to Matt hill tonight - best game in a Blades shirt by far.
Porter was also very good tonight other than his goal.
Held the ball up, linked with others, chased everythign down and worked very hard.
See - I said he need the right kind of service and he would score.

Yes that was very noticeable. he gave the ball away a couple of times, laid off the odd 5 yarder but generally might as well not have been there!

It's very difficult for any player to make an impact after such a long absence. He tried his best, of course.

Quinn was superb, though and Doyle not far behind - his tenacity was second to none tonight and he retained possession with simple sensible passes. I thought the midfield played very well tonight in adversity when our best player had to go off.

I'm sure, though, we all hope K-Mac can recover in time for the final. Wembley deserves those sublime skills after all the England garbage it's had to endure!

Let's forget all the doom and gloom and play-off disasters now. That's all history.

One aim; One desire; One voice.

Pinchy - You're just a wrong 'un
Now, back to Porter. Great to see him score (of course), and his overall contribution tonight was excellent. In fact, they were all heroes. We've played some quality football this season. Tonight was a mixed bag to say the least, but heart-warming to see we can still chuck in grit, determination and shear endeavour.

To be honest i thought macdonald was pretty shit tonight by his standards.
i'd agree but i think he was just waiting for the inevitable hamstring twang. pray he is fit for wembley. if not - 442 back to quinn and flynn on the wings, cressy and porter up front and willo in the middle with doyle for me

It's nice though just to have a midfielder who we believe has those standards. I don't think I've ever seen a player who weights a pass so perfectly. I know that if he was up to his standard every game, he wouldn't be playing for us so I'm just enjoying the moment. Please let the moment last a bit longer!

When he's on form his command of the ball and his passing is just delicious. Get well soon K-Mac.

That'll do for me Pinch.

Several drinks! A black cab has just dropped me off at Brownie towers, and several drinks have been imbibed tonight.

Up the Blades
