If COGs agent rings Clough to say hes available as hes turned Charlton down, (or vice versa) that constitutes there being discussions now does it.

Non starter for me , was denied before talks with Charlton , charlton not being prepared to pay silly money precludes us looking Id wager

It's not a non-starter mate. I'm not saying it's a certainty either, but NC wants the player and it's a serious proposition.

I can see his uses, in some games , and he does play better on the floor which fits in , but Id have other preferences , personally , and they dont drink Sanatogen

Hmmm. I knew I'd seen him somewhere.....

Back on the subjects of kits, that livingston one would be a great design for our away kit, either that colour or racing car green with black. The sponsor and the adidas logo fit in perfect with that design, and with the initial John Holland logo been black, they could put it on the shirt without it looking tacky and it would stand out more, everbody's a winner.

Of course they were, can a club like Barnsley afford to turn away good money? I'd think not.

The fact that another club's CEO has a big mouth doesn't mean that everything coming out of it is accurate.

It's notable that many of our fans won't believe a word said by officials at our own club, yet hang on the words of numpties elsewhere as though they are gospel.

It's the Bladesfans' way.

Doesn't look too promising. The way Clough has been speaking, it reads like he doesn't seem too bothered, or let's say he might not be Cloughs No1 target

No Freeman as well when it seemed a loan deal suited all parties. DAVE78 on BM says the fee is the sticking point. The fee is nearly enough to buy him

McGahey, just the fee to agree with Blackpool. If fee can't be agreed it goes to tribunal

He's saying Barnsley are being very silly asking for a larger transfer free from us than they would take from other clubs. He's saying we'll let time pass and see if they continue to act in such a crass manner. He's saying we're Sheffield United and we don't get pushed around by local minnows.

Ultimately COG will have his say. Does he want to join the Blade's revival badly enough? If so, he ought to say so, before we move on! We've got a promotion to win this season. We're not about to be derailed by a bunch of dingles.

Not bothered either way re COG, can't really see him offering a great deal more than no-goals Paynter did last season.

It's clear Cloughy won't be held to ransom either.

2 or 3 more in according to James Sheilds twitter feed. One of them would be McGahey you would think, then either a right-back, (unless he plays Davies there) or a striker....the longer it goes on without us signing a recognised striker and the more Cloughy appears to be quite comfortable with things, the more I think we will see Mr Evans again..

He would offer infinitely more than Paynter. He scored 15 goals in the league above us and won his club's player of the year award last season (Yes, I know it was only Barnsley). He is a very capable centre-forward and would do all the things that Paynter so obviously didn't in that role. He would also make the ideal partner for Ched.

I think Cloughie has one or two options up his sleeve to be prestidigitated as required.

Seems to me Barnsley were in pole position until today. It's that old issue, if you are buying it's expensive, however if you need to sell it becomes a buyers market.

The Yorkshire Post article today suggests that although no official bid has been made United have more or less agreed what the fee would be. They say it's personal terms that are not agreed. They won't have got that from what Cloughie said. But maybe Cloughie making it clear to O'Grady's agent that they are asking for too much.

Interesting, wonder if anyone else will come in for COG.

Sorry, not YP but South Yorkshire Times

On twitter: @SkySportsPeteO: Brighton are closing in on the signing of Barnsley striker Chris O'Grady. #barnsleyfc #bhafc

Move on

In fairness nige didn't seem overly enthusiastic about signing him on the interview I heard last week.
I'm sure he would have done a good job for us but I wasn't blown away at the prospect of getting him.
The only thing that worries me is... Who else is available? There isn't even any rumours of other strikers on our list!

You just know we will try and tough it out with what we already have until October. It's the Blades way ;)

Was never that enthused about COG, but it's the fact the elusive, proven striker remains elusive

How long has the club and Clough been saying a proven striker has become priority?

If Clough ends up saying he is happy with what we have up front I will be extremely p!ssed off. We need to bring someone in quickly so that he is fully integrated when the season starts. Lots of free signings so far who will hopefully do well, but I think some more investment will be needed to bring in the proven striker we desperately need.

I think we've missed a trick there but I'm sure COG wanted big bucks and dingles probably tried cashing in too. Oh well. Billy sharp and michael brown anyone?

Here's my top 5,
1) stevie may
2) Sam baldock
3) Ishmael Miller
4) Sam winnall
5) Craig Davies

And I can honestly see us getting NONE of um!
