It's telling that Wright, Clarke and Brooks all ended up on the pitch anyway.

In any event we played some lovely stuff today first half at least. In all honesty I don't think we have the squad depth to properly challenge, though our strongest 11 will be hard for anyone to live with.

Despite the loss today we still played well - perhaps a bit more rusty than our best but we played well. I wont criticise a team that turns up and plays good entertaining football. Teams of old that didnt bother turning up are for criticism, not this team

Hmm. Possibly because Brooks is patently something way above the game changing ability we need, and maybe today we needed that level of skill to invigorate a stagnating first half. Cast your mind back to the last time Brooks played with Donaldson and the defence-splitting pass he delivered for his second goal. Cast your mind to the game against the pigs and his jinksy runs at their defence, one of which caused the first goal and his deftness throughout that match, again setting up Clarke for his second goal. Many comments have come out of today how flat and uninspiring we seemed. Maybe you think keeping a talismanic playmaker on the bench is a great idea but I disagree. He has stamped his authority on the team and deserves a start every game. Again, others on here have suggested, 'he wont get the two weeks off' which is facile rubbish. He's twenty and easily able to start every game as do many young players in all divisions. We needed him today. Resting Clarke I can understand. Brooks, no.

Also hindsight is a wonderful thing. If Leon had played and pulled his hamstring it would have been a terrible mistake and many would have questioned why he doesn't use the squad better.

I’ve never said that keeping him on the bench was a good idea and if you think it was a bad idea you should’ve just said so. What I have said is that Wilder would’ve had a good reason for keeping him on the bench so making up unsubstantiated bollocks like he did it to appease Wales is completely uncalled for.

I also think that Wright makes us look a better defensive unit, but I thought I'd check the facts to be sure. Based on league games this season the facts are as follows

When Wrights on the pitch we concede a goal every 113 minutes
Without wright we concede every 78 minutes

When Wright starts we average just over 2.5 points per game
When Wright doesn't start we average 0.75 points per game

So the facts seem pretty clear although based on only 11 games, however I'm sure that the results would be similar if done for the whole of last season.

Calculated risk IMO. Forest have faltered, before today and we've been going great guns. CW will have looked at the form and figured he could take the opportunity to rest a couple and still come away with something. It almost paid off - I lost count of the times the ball fizzed around the goal, or bounced just out of reach of one of our players in the 6 yard box - and on another day, we could have had 5 or 6.

Ultimately, for me, the thing that undid us today was fatigue. Physical and MENTAL fatigue. You don't have the start, Month and WEEK we've just had without it taking it's tole. Flecks uncharacteristic fluff of his lines wasn't because he's bad, it was a momentary lapse in concentration and judgment. JOC's out of character ball watching wasn't a shit player being found out, it was just not being 100% after an arduous 6 days - A Derby and going up against a promotion tipped team is asking a lot of anyone.

Without those two lapses in what, as we know, is normally as solid a back line and midfield unit as we've had for a decade(?) then today would have been very different and CW/AK's calculated risk would have paid off.

I think Baldock going off injured was more of a shove towards losing than not starting Brooks and Clarke. We won games without them prior to Wendy, considering that was Brooks' first league start.

If we had Baldock on we might have got something today, but we looked a bit lopsided without him and they had us sussed, loads of red shirts behind the ball and make us faff about until they get possession.

Unfortunately we're tired, and a couple of previously solid players had a bit of a bad day. It happens.

Positives are there to be had, we look to have some good free kicks, Lundstram looked good, and we kept trying even though everyone was so obviously on their last legs and a few players were out of position.
