Seen a few players get a lot of praise recently, but for me none have been as consistent as Chris Basham. The lad has been superb in defence since he came in. I thought he was our only decent player first half today, and is always trying to get the other players going. Not the most gifted of players, but one who never gives less than 100%. He must be a manager's dream, plays wherever asked and does a decent job. Top lad.

I do like him, he's not a natural Centre half and I do feel he has an error or two in him, but you cannot fault his effort and commitment. If we had 11 as committed as him, we'd be alright!

There are a lot of plus points to having him in the team. He's there to stay I think.

If we were any alrighter, we'd be top Koz and I think we've more chance of achieving that with just the one Chris Basham in the team!
I think the non-Bashams are doing alright themselves ;)

This will piss a few of you off but here are my thoughts on Basham:

He is useful in as much as he slots into different positions when called upon. However, the only thing he's consistent at is being consistently the weak link in the team. He's not a natural CB nor a CM.

Basham has played alright today and he is an excellent squad player, but that's what he should be, a squad player filling in for injuries, suspension and occasionally lack of form from the first teamers. For me a defence of EEL-Wright-JOC is the best we have, when all are fit that's what it should be, it's stronger than a back three of Bash-EEL-JOC or Bash-EEL-Wright imo. Ditto with midfield, the defacto trio is Coutts-Duffy-Fleck than any variation with Basham in it.

Like a poor man's Jon O'Shea.

Weakest player in the squad by a country mile, and a constant liability. I hope to see him replaced very soon.

Basham is jack of all trades and master of none, but he sweats blood and tears for the club and leaves nothing behind on the pitch. All clubs need a Bash and at this level he's an asset.

It's a real catch 22 with Bash. Without him we lack a little energy and he generally contributes in a positive way to the team but we seem to be shoehorning him in. He lost his midfield spot when suspended and we would all agree we look better for it. However imo we looked better back three with Wright in the middle. There are arguments for both cases. I'm happy to go with Wilder on this one.

Utility players are usually more popular with managers that fans, mostly because they allow them to make tactical changes without using substitutions. He moved into midfield at times today to counter Oldham who had initially matched our formation, and he did fine in both roles.

Must admit I think we're better defensively with Wright at the back, but when we're playing a team like Oldham who don't appear to know what the white sticks at either end of the pitch are for, his flexibility is really useful.

IMO bash is in the team as he is very versitile and again as we saw today ( and many , if not all matches) we can easily change formation with him switching to midfield , I do agree that on paper joc, wright and EEL is a more solid back 3 but wilder wouldn't have the versitlity bash offers

Also as others have said, his effort and work rate is excellent , you need players like this in any (hopefully) successful team , promoted to the prem we had Monty who as all know had his limitations !

Players like him are valuable.

Park Ji-Sung, John O'Shea, Greg Halford, Jags when he first came about for us.

All play(ed) for clubs respective to their ability, and all would be described in a similar way as we describe Basham by their own fans.

Solid enough player for our immediate goals.
