I confess I feel a bit sorry for Ched, on the basis that yes, he has been a right twat in the first instance, and yes I feel even more sorry for his girlfreind Natasha, but he has paid a very high price for his 'indiscretion' of sex with a drunk girl.

He has lost probably the best 5 years of his playing career, along with the wages to match, not that he really needs the money mind.

Anyhow, on the positive side I think he could give some excellent strike options to CW as he could be a great pairing for both Clark and Sharp.

So I for one would be glad to see him back.

Ched did nothing wrong , and I for one had the gut feeling he was innocent all along ..so he cheated on his Girlfriend ?..hardly a hanging offence is it ?. Anyway I reckon hes got a good 'un ..there won't be any more of that sort of carry on ..lessons learned .

The only concern is whether he is good enough for Sheffield United at Championship level ..he deserves the chance to prove himself again.

Leon Clarke hasn't had 5 years away from professional football.

Ched Evans has...

Im sure if anybody can get the best out of him Chris Wilder can...

I just don't think his body is up to playing football at championship level on a regular basis
On what grounds do you think his body is not up to playing Championship football ? His body will not have had the wear and tear of most 28 year old footballers, owing to his time out of the game. Once fit, and undoubtedly motivated, and with CW & AK to look after him, there must be a fair chance of him doing quite well.

sorry if this isn't allowed mods obviously feel free to remove.

Just wondering why people are against ched signing, if they are at all.

It's a no from me. Purely because I don't think he's good enough for what we need now. We will be two divisions above where he's currently at. I think we need younger players, we need more pace and I don't think he's any better than Clarke, Sharp or Lavery.

Plus it's a very divisive issue. After spending this entire season getting fans back on side and galvanising the whole club, Wilder (if it's his decision) is putting all that good work in jeopardy. Plus there's all the publicity that comes with Ched that we could do without. We are now on a different path now. We could do without it. Ched is the past. He should stay there.

I did say on a regular basis, he may be able to play a few games, then will have to rest as the demands of playing championship football will take its toll...

I also don't think his body is up to it because the last time he played in the championship he and his body were shit!!

Owing to his time out of the game is the reason why I don't think he'll be a regular who can guarantee 35+ games a season..

I used to run marathons, funnily enough the last one was London 2012, two days after he got sent down.. I've carried on running, and going to run another marathon next year.. it's going to take a good 18 months to get back to a similar speed and fitness as before..

He's been out since early March as it is..

Hope I'm proved wrong but I'm not co

whatever your opinion on signing yes or no, how the hell is he worth £0.5m!! Not a very shrewd deal IMO.

Quite astonishing that people are STILL criticising the club for paying 500k.

We haven't paid that amount because for a start he hasn't signed yet. Plus, the figure speculated on was pulled from the air by a wankstain Journo with an agenda, following info supplied by an even bigger wankstain from Chesterfield with you guessed it...AN AGENDA!!!

We have done it before.....sold players for £2m according to KM....then the other side say its dependant on several factors but initial fee is £1m. KM makes it look like we have made a great deal, but depends on the player doing the business for his new team.
Well don't be surprised if it's the same case here.

I agree griz but you know what some fans are like, its a figure to hit the club (mccabe) with, until its official who knows?

Come on then , own up . How many of the no voters voted for all three no options ;)

I don't suppose anyone thought of asking John Holland Car Sales what they think have they??

Here's an idea, why don't we all wait until SUFC come out and make a statement, they may even tell us how much he's going to cost, if in fact it's true we're signing him.

All this is speculation on a couple of tweets along the lines of "as we understand it" from RS. No figure or confirmation from either club, still.

Apologies if any of this has been mentioned earlier in this thread but:

Has anyone considered that Mr McCabe may have given Ched a promise before the initial trial that he would play for us again and that he is keeping his word? If that is the case, George has gone up in my estimation for being a man of his word.

It could be the case that Ched has a successful comeback and his subsequent resale value at today's prices could easily be £1 million pound plus. It may be good business.

The additional competition up front for us might just ensure that the other strikers have to work at their top level to keep a place in the team.

I am personally unsure whether the re-signing of Ched is a good idea, but if Chris Wilder backed the move then it is OK with me. That man can do no wrong in my eyes, he has brought back the Sheffield United that I love.

I'm in total agreement with all the sentiments on that post!!. I've got complete faith in wilder to work his magic with potential signings!!. Wilder has given us our club back.

Yes, it's been said a few times. It could well be the case. I have considered another possibility though; it could be the other way round. Perhaps Ched feels culpable and wants to make amends? Maybe he's turned down other offers to come to us? Just speculation.

What if we'd paid £150k and the £500k was just a figure depending on outcome of promotion? Would that be ok for you? Because that's what it is.

A no brainier imo.

I'm pretty sure we won't give a shit when Ched's 30 goals gets us into the top flight this time next year

I've spoke to loads of Blades in the past week and there seems to be 2 main groups of Blades.
Those that went to matches in 2012 and those Blades that didn't attend in 2012.

The vast majority (90%) of Blades that saw our team play in 2012 saw with their own eyes that Ched ripped up league 1, far better than Billy Sharp has been this season and arguably our best striker since Brian Deane.

Most Blades that I've spoken to who are against Cheds return generally don't go to matches or didn't attend very often in 2012. I'd say Ched at his best is better than Jordan Rhodes who has been bought for 10 million.

Let's say Ched only manages to rediscover 50% of his form then he'll still do a job in the Championship.
Theres loads of baggage with this transfer but we're paying £500K for someone who has the potential to be our best striker and worth 5 to 10 million. Seems a worthwhile risk to me.

The club have had a lecture on morals from Pesch's missus in her column today, though I am surprised that she has had time to write one this week, with her club deeply mired in a tax fraud investigation.
