Ched Evans

2 absolute crackers as well, palmed straight to him 2 yards out by some £1M keeper I've vaguely heard of :)

If he isn't sold in the last few days of the JTW, his contract is up in June, so is a free agent.

Chances are he'll see it out and move on regardless.

Scoring goals is a rare commodity - there won't be a massive queue, but there will be plenty who will take him on.

that's bloody foxy ! the contract thread of Ched only says to June 2019.

I hope that Foxy is aware of something I’m not then, as it was reported as a 3-year deal. I hope that the final year is one of the “club options” kind of arrangements, though I remember being adamant that James Wallace only had a 2-year deal with the club having a year option, only to discover to my horror that it was actually a 3-year deal. Good times.

It would in my view being the likes of Evans, Lavery, Heneghan etc that I’d be looking to move out permanently rather than the likes of Semple and Gilmour, but then I’m not the manager.

Given the great season he is having it would be in our interest that he is in contract. At the very least we could get a fee for him in the summer.

“But no – his three year contract expires in summer 2020.”

Giving Evans a three year contract was crazy, and I said so at the time.

No one will ever convince me that this wasn’t forced on Wilder by McCabe.

11 goals for Fleetwood in 24 appearances is poorer than 2 strikers we already have playing for us in the league up. If it was anyone but Ched we wouldn't even suggest it. There are around 20 players in league 1 who have scored more than him.

Name one.

There are 10 actually which in my book is not 'around 20'.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-one/top-scorers

Most have had more game time than Ched and only 6 of them have a better minutes per goal record.

Still as we know, where Ched is concerned it is a question of post first, check later (if at all).

I think that still backs up his point though doesn't it? If we were targeting a 30 year-old, injury prone striker who was the 11th top scorer in League One with the 7th best goals per minute ratio, and his name wasn't Ched Evans, this board would be up in arms!

If we don't use him next year we will have paid him 6 years' money for one excellent season, 1 mediocre (at best) season, 2 poor seasons, and 2 years of nothing.

What a waste of resources.

The Blades way.

It is remarkable that the same recruitment regime that was hesistant about offering McGoldrick anything more than a one-year deal after getting him to go through a period on trial too – a player with a proven record at this level – also led to us handing out a 3 year deal to Evans. Not a one-year rolling deal that gets extended by meeting a criteria on games played (as Sharp currently effectively has). Not a two-year deal with a get-out option should Evans, only ever succeeding at this level in a loan spell in his rookie year and arriving with huge questions over his physical fitness, not prove up to the challenge of Championship.

Three years. It is so out of step with the rest of our prudent transfer business it feels like an unusual moment of madness where we’ve weighted a deal very much in the player’s favour. I can’t think of any other comparable piece of business under Wilder.

So, are we not posting anymore Madine threads then??

Ched could still do a job in my view. He's a different kind of striker to Madine, and he's surely back to fitness now. Remember he has been struggling with injuries since he was re-signed.

Here we are in a promotion battle scraping around with loans and we are paying Evans not to play for us.

I wonder who proposed the Evans deal?

This has been done to death.

Do you want me to say 'Wilder' so that you can call him a liar and say it was really KM?

It could develop into a really interesting thread and it is very likely that everyone will reconsider their entrenched views, as a result of an open and helpful debate.

A fair point.

Not sure where I got 20 from but I did check first, must have been a mistype.

But as the poster above commented, it still proves my point, if he's not played as many minutes, why? I don't get the love in with him and we should sell him asap as we don't need an average, old league 1 striker on our payroll

Reminds me of the one of the classic threads https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/wilder-on-ched.55290/page-8

Where we argued about what the word 'ultimately' meant in the context of Wilder saying 'it was ultimately my decision to sign Ched Evans'

Part of the darkest time I can ever remember being a Blade. Losing him cost us big style & ensured our prolonged stay in division 3. For it to be over something so fucking moronic still infuriates me today… I genuinely hope he’s never associated with Sheffield United again.

That being said, he’s ended up carving out a decent little career for himself. Considering he didn’t play any kind of professional sport for the best part of 4 years, to finish it in the championship is some going. Fair fucks to him & as ever, GLTTL.

Agree with everything you say- and yes he's a complete dickhead, but for the year prior to all that fucking moronic nonsense- Ched was absolutely unplayable. He was like our very own Malcolm McDonald - can only happen to The Blades stuff like this.
