Maybe not ,looks like i underestimated t'old jugears

...as did many others. My Spurs-supporting mate rang me after we played them on 28/1/15 (and Che scored 2 in 2 minutes) and asked 'Where the fuck have you found this kid from?' An extract from Wikipedia:

Adams scored for the first time in the league on 15 August 2015, with both goals in a 2–0 at home to Chesterfield which was Sheffield United's first win of the season,. Ten days later, he signed a new three-year deal at United with the option of an extra year. On 10 October, Adams scored twice in the first half of a 3–2 win over Rochdale, and ten days later he got another brace to defeat Fleetwood Town 3–0, opening the scoring after 54 seconds. He was given a straight red card on 5 December in the second round of the FA Cup, for a foul on Liam Kelly in a 1–0 win at Oldham Athletic. Adams established himself as a regular in the team, partnering striker Billy Sharp, but in March 2016 was dropped to the bench by manager Nigel Adkins for not working hard in training. (No evidence of that. Che missed four games in Nov/Dec. 2015 but - from 26th Jan. 2016, he played in all the remaining 19 league games). He soon returned, finished the season with 12 goals from 41 appearances in all competitions, 11 from 36 in League One, and was named by the Sheffield Star as its Young Player of the Year.

Not hindsight, anybody with a hole in their arse could have seen Che's potential and - without knowing what may have gone on 'behind the scenes' - one of my very few disappointments about CW is that he didn't have a better look at Che. Possibly because he had just been appointed as Blades manager, got just one point from his first four games and had enough on his plate?

Adams was by all accounts not a great character in dressing room terms and his sale financed other acquisitions like JOC and Moore. He always seemed to me like an arse hole but whether he saw his own potential I don't know..

Personally I thought he was poor for us under Adkins. Looked overweight, not quick, couldn't beat a man and when he tried to and failed just feel over and tried to get a foul which seldom succeeded. Don't regret selling him at all and if we get a good divi from the sell on clause I'll be more than happy.

I think Yewsman has it right here.

The potential DID look obvious, but then the season under Adkins saw him regress dreadfully (in fitness and, possibly, in attitude). The fact he netted us a good few bob and allowed CW to bring in a promotion winning influx of players means he was a sacrifice worth making at the time it was made.
Who knows, if he'd got injured and become unsellable prior to CW arriving then he may be fulfilling his potential for us now and about to net us a huge amount. Ce la vie.

Surely that's the mark of a proper manager - managing a diverse bunch and getting them all 'on side'? Seems to be working with Madine but, as I've said, it was maybe a 'challenge too far' so early in CWs Blades career.

Che wouldn't be the only player (Campbell-Ryce was another) who Adkins fucked up so he could play his favourites like Hammond.

And years ago - possibly in his 'second coming' - Billy wasn't averse to falling over when he couldn't beat a man.

In the 'Adkins season' (2015/16), Che started 29 games and came on a sub. 7 times. 11 goals made him (easily) our second-highest scorer. The third-highest - with 5 goals - was Conor Fucking Sammon. Only Billy and Bashambauer had more appearances that season. Not bad for a 'fat lad from Ilkeston'. :)

Any player can get injured at any time - some risks are worth taking. And some players are worth persisting with.

It's widely acknowledged that Sharp's 21 goals that season 'saved us from relegation' but Che scored in 8 games to get his 11 goals - seven wins and one draw.

I wasn't suggesting we had to cash in just in case he got injured, but that if he had and Chris had been forced to keep him and get him fit then he'd have shaken off the "Adkins effect" and shown him his true potential.
It is a testament to his talent that he could look like he'd lost a yard of pace (at least) and still be one of our better players (or it's an indictment of the rest of the team!).

I think he was demotivated, as were most of the players but he was less able to deal with it, being young. He’d yet to learn what being a professional was about.

Bottom line is, like with Brooks, we needed money to strengthen and the owners weren’t putting their hands in their pockets. We’re not the only club who has to do that, it shouldn’t come as such a surprise.

Imagine us being 12th, under pressure with FFP and rejecting a £12m bid for anybody?

That only adds to the annoyance with things like this because if it was us he'd be long gone.

Imagine us being top of the League and having £680 trillion in the bank and rejecting £12 million for anybody

£0 if he comes back here ;)

My lad brought this up last night

My answer............................not happening

The £12m turned down in Jan will quickly escalate in the Summer when a number of clubs will be bidding for his services. I just don't see us being able to compete

No neither do I. Be a rate laugh if it did though. On that note, I can't believe the negligence Birmingham showed by not accepting that money and potentially stopped them from being deducted 9 points. Surely the efl, if a club is in serious debt and that club gets offered a sizeable amount should be stepping in.

Luke spot on mate, but the EFL dont have a clue. Look at this Bolton escapade they've cancelled their brentford game but it doesn't look like theres gonna be any sanction, they should be relegated another division to stop this kind of crap happening.

Birmingham want 15 mil up front. Its a no from me. It's too risky.

Apparently Burnley been priced out as well. Worries me as think McBurnie will have similar suitors / valuation and think he may end up out of our reach. Adams is a decent barometer for transfer values.

McBurnie lacks Adams' athleticism, is the same age and scored the same number of goals. He's in the bracket just a bit below.

I'd pay £10-13m for Che (even if that makes the Brooks value even more frustrating)
And I'd pay £6-8m for McBurnie.

But it's not my money.

If we have a 20% sell on clause he would only cost 12million. Be a yes at that from me.

Id like us to go for Adams at £12m. He got that explosive maverick about him. A match winner. Hes the sort who we should be after, provided hes now grown up...

Surely it will be the selling price and not the asking price that will be the barometer?
We will have to wait till then to have any yardstick as to the value of the others.

As long as he sells to someone, I don't see why any sell-on fee will influence whether we bid for him. We will still get the fee, which can be put towards the acquisition of a different player. I would like us to go for Adams at the right price.

Explosive, match winning, maverick.
Perfectly summed up and exactly why I hope we push the boat out for him

But if they don't sell him we get nothing.
