I probably only saw his better performances over the previous couple of seasons but in the early days he was strong direct and a great impact player from the bench, and always looked like he would get us a goal or two. A lot of what is said above is right about a daft lad that needed strong management to stop him believing his own press; I personally think he has it in his locker to go further but its absolutely clear that he wont be "the one that got away" in the same way as Kyle or even Murphy would be. For once if he does make it in the future it will be down to the way he is managed and adapts from now on and not down to the work we did with him. Which is the bit that generally pisses me off about the ones we have sold

Because Birmingham were just about the pinnacle of interested clubs and that £1.8m is about as much as we could've got at the time.

Getting £1.8m for that slovenly ale cart last pre season can only be judged as being a bad deal for United if a) he wasn't a disruption at the club (he was) and b) if Utd had plenty of money for Wilder to spend and change the squad around (we didn't). So in essence it was a fabulous deal for Utd as it allowed us to bring in the likes of Fleck, O'Connell, Moore, Wright, Duffy, Carruthers etc. The money allowed CW to manoeuvre in the transfer market and bring in a team of winners which stormed the league and have got us back to the championship. Same reason why I say £1m for DCL was terrific business also. Without either of these fees being brought in to pay for transfer fees, signing on fees, wages etc, I have my doubts on whether we would have gone up.

I dont particularly like Che as a bloke, but i do appreciate that his transfer fee has seriously helped us to get out of that shithole of a division.

He can get sold on by the Brummies for £10m for all i care....I still say it was great business by CW and Utd selling Che for £1.8m. It got us promoted.
