am currently reading Nemesis by Max Hastings on the fall of Japan 1944-45 and Christ some of the testimonies in there. Here's one. The US submarine force was the single most effective instrument of Japan losing the war. However it is estimated that 10,000 allied POWs were killed lost on transports moving POWs either from occupied lands to Burma or back to Japan. In one incident a transport was torpedoed and some of of the POWs managed to abandon ship. The Japs then machine gunned them in the water. Some survived this and made it ashore to the Philippines where on arrival they were beheaded by the IJ army. And we are meant to be civil and respect this culture?

I'm reading 'Uncle Bill' which is the biography of William Slim, our commander in Burma. In one action the Japs broke through our lines and into a field hospital. They shot the doctors and bayonetted the wounded in their beds. Bill Slim liked to keep reminding our troops what they were up against.

There are still a few oldies around who won't buy Japanese cars/ tvs etc but most of us don't give a shit for our history or the sacrifices of our grandparents.

If Che and DCL have to go in exchange for Wilson, O'connell and Fleck, whatever the numbers are that'll do for me.

Two prospects for the future in exchange for three decent players for NOW.

Seems like good deal to me

Cheers Swiss.

As a matter of interest, when you were out there did you ever find out why they just don't get this shit about their past? I mean the education system glosses over the IJ arrmed forces as if it was all bullshit so the Japanese state still lies to its own people. What is it with these cunts?

If modern Germany had a memorial in Berlin to Adolf Hitler and to the Gestapo in Cologne Cathedral, do you honestly think we'd hear the end of it? I have no issue with children of modern Japan but the more I read of accounts of people in the Far East in WWII, yep it sends me off on one.

To be fair they even treat their own people like shit too and were pretty harsh to their own troops/forces in WWII so their behaviour was hardly surprising. It all seems to stem from this honour thing and that they can't ever really apologise and reform because to do so would be some betrayal? It's perverse. They produce excellent technical people have made wonderful advances in robotics and machines yet treated people like utter shite. At times reading some of this stuff makes the Einsatzgruppen look like the Vanorama against the Premier League IJ army.

There are others on here who can give a better overview on the Japanese, but I found nothing but a people with humility. They are exceptionally polite and many are apologetic for the acts of their grandparents. I've worked with Russians and Germans and worked in both locations as well, but the Japanese are very different. The best way to describe them is embarrassed for their historical acts... but they don't all know their history either.

When i travelled to Nanjing, i travelled with a Japanese colleague, not knowing about the massacre until after i had been there, but there was no resentment from the Chinese. The Japanese guy didn't know about it either. I mentioned it to him when we had a beer a few weeks later... He was completely shocked and immediately apologised to me for it!

I've never met people like the Japanese before and i've never been made so welcome in a country as i was in Japan, however i was mostly around Tokyo/ Yokohama area and i don't speak the language. I'd love to know more about the history there to understand better, the older folk that i met there were extremely pleasant and welcoming.

How highly do you rate Adams then? Is his retention key to next season?

I wouldn’t say that as he’s not the finished article. What I would say is that he can play a big part next season and could potentially become a much better player worth much more if he keeps his head down and works hard. Selling him relatively cheaply now might be costly in the long run. Also, if we have genuine aspirations to climb the leagues, we will need some young players who can grow with us so that we don’t have to destroy and reassemble the squad completely if we go up.

why not

we dont have the highest wage bill in league one through having a tight board

its simple logic
our problem has been poor managers
we didnt buy brayford and Done with argos points
we didnt spend what was available last season because Adkins was a twat

The last sentence is simply not true. There is no way a manager, when his team are underperforming in January (but still with a chance of making the playoffs) would choose not to strengthen the squad. We didn’t sign players for one of two reasons.

1. The wage bill was already too high (mainly because of Clough’s signings) and they weren’t prepared to keep throwing good money after bad.

2. They’d lost faith in Adkins and were already considering sacking him meaning they didn’t want to lumber us with more of his players for when Wilder came in.

11 in 46 games, can we manage without that contribution if we buy well?

As a 19 year old playing his first season of professional football some of it out wide in a team that was underperforming as a whole.

Every reason to believe he could improve on that as he develops. Depends if his head is right, if Wilder sees his future as a striker alongside Sharp etc.

I don't see Adams as a key player, certainly not a family jewel. What do you think about his potential? He's a young lad but does he show awareness of the game?

Kyle Walker sometimes showed a lack of awareness when he first broke through but you knew he was going to be special because of his exceptional athleticism and the fact he could make something from nothing. Adams has those qualities, albeit on a lesser scale. Other aspects can be coached IF he is willing to learn.

2009 called and wants it's Kyles thread back.

One big difference. This time we have a real manager making the decisions as opposed to an out of his depth coach whom I wouldn't leave in charge of a kettle, never mind a football club.

Their brutally was horrific but there are a lot of things we did in our Empire days that were just as appalling. I'm not responsible for that, just as the modern Japanese aren't responsible for what their grandparents did.

again Adkins said , the money was on the table , we still had a chance in january to get in the play offs
as Barnsley proved from well below us
Adkins just bottled it could have signed players for a fee or on loan but failed
the wage bill was short term , they knew 10 were out of contract in june
thats why things are going to very different under Chris

Adkins said a lot of things that didn't happen. I don't believe for one moment that there was any money available last season because if there was Adkins would have been an even bigger knob than he was, to not bring in players to address the many glaring deficiencies in our squad that were apparent from August onwards .....

There was ...... no money !!

UTB & FTP
