How highly do you rate Adams then? Is his retention key to next season?

Not at all ...... I rate him as an exciting development player with good potential.

My issue is that we regularly undersell our best assets and do not replace them with same or better quality eg Murphy, Maguire, Walker etc

And the proceeds replace board investment rather than adding to board investment .......

Reciepe for 7 seasons in L1 ......... :(

why not

we dont have the highest wage bill in league one through having a tight board

its simple logic
our problem has been poor managers

No ..... we have the highest wage bill in L1 through an incompetent board and incapable managers who can't work with an incompetent board .....

all any board can do is pick a manager and supply a budget
theyve given enough to get to 3 play offs in 5 years
its all down to managers , no matter what you think

Barnsley got up by choosing good management, not funding the squad
our board thought Adkins was a good choice , unaware he was a totally spent useless cunt, unable to find any talent available

cant see Chris sitting on any available funds , he will utilize every penny

Is Adams one of those "best assets"? Would you sell him for £1.5m tomorrow?

It would be nice WF, if after years of selling off the family jewels we could just hang on to one or two of our brighter prospects for a change

Other lower league clubs seem to manage it from time to time and it's especially poignant, when our owners declare to the world how we want to be back in the Premier league within 5 seasons. Laughable really

I don't see Adams as a key player, certainly not a family jewel. What do you think about his potential? He's a young lad but does he show awareness of the game?

Take the money and spend it.

See, this is where you tread in your own dogshit and walk it in the house, WWF.

'Take the money' - I don't think McCabe has any problem with doing that ...

' ... and spend it' - on fucking WHAT, exactly? A pitch? Player's wages? Baling out club debt?

So, we get rid of a talented player, and spunk the cash on no talented player.

Can you now finally see why we are where we are, and who is to blame?

I imagine our spending over the 6 years in league one far, far, far exceeds our income from player sales.

It genuinely isn't the lack of spending money that has kept us in this division, it is the absolute clowns the clowns in charge have spent it on. I am more positive this season than I have been for a long time, although it might be that I know I don't have to drag my arse to town every Saturday to watch them :D

I just think Chris has his head screwed on right, knows what we need, won't pander to arseholes, won't buy big names players cos that's what they are and won't be afraid of having a team with a bit of a nasty streak in them.

At 19, plunged into League footy from non League and manage 12 goals in his first full season, playing in what was at best a mediocre team, he probably achieved more than we give him credit for. Will he progress? I think he will, but whether he'll hit the heady heights remains to be seen and I have my reservations. Usually to be a top footballer, apart from having all the usual attributes, you need a footballing brain and I haven't seen that in him. I do think Wilder can improve him tho.

However, my point remains. The club can't turn around to fans and tell us they want Prem football within 5 season and at the same time sell off anyone and everyone that commands a fee. The two just don't go together imo

We know he will go, let's just accept it. Everyone has already spelled out what will happen and they are absolutely correct.

what winds me up most about this though, is the one title turning on Che with comments such as 'well if he'd rather go to a championship club and sit on the bench that stay here, then he's an idiot', 'we can't keep players that want to go' and another classic 'we don't want players that don't want to be here'.

All bullshit but get pulled out every year by the sympathisers. There are so many examples where clubs have rejected transfer requests and settled disputes and the player has gone on to ha e a great season, including getting the club promoted. We're just a spineless club, it's tiresome but I'm used to it. I wish we could all just accept it though rather than trying to somehow turn it into a positive.

Oh, and pointing out the obvious, but the money won't be re-invested... Obviously.

Adams is not a Walker or a Naughton,, a Murphy or even a Blackman. There have to be doubts about his application and attitude off the pitch, indeed his game awareness on the pitch. He has raw ability but where will that get him without those other attributes?

£1.5m, snap their hands off IMO. 3x£500k fees for a defender, a striker and a midfielder, no brainer.

Thing is we won't get an offer of £1.5m.

I would sell him for £1.5 million upfront plus sensible add-ons to take it to £2 million plus a 20% sell on clause ( without get-outs like Spurs used ) but ONLY IF Tufty was actually guaranteed to have the funds ADDED to his existing transfer budget and not used to pay wages, cleaners, car park attendants, upkeep of the pitch, new seats in the dugout etc.

Given that it wont happen like that ....... no I wouldn't, because Tufty would be lucky to see 10% of the proceeds so its simply not worth it from a fans point of view.

I honestly have absolutely no idea how you have come to that conclusion.

Really? Look at who we have sold and the reported fees, look how many players we have signed, managers and staff paid off, the billy big bollocks on their way down we have wasted money on in agents fees, signing on fees etc etc. We don't lose millions every year by selling off our best players.

Very, very few clubs in the world can stop their best players from leaving.... Yes we could say no and let them rot in the reserves etc etc, I'm sure that would do tons for club morale. We are a business, people need to accept that, if you have an asset that's valuable and need to balance the books or sell to reinvest the funds on multiple assets, then it's what you do. Especially a relatively unproven asset with an alleged attitude problem. I hope we keep hold of both Che and DCL but won't lose any sleep should we part with them.

So now you would sell him conditional upon the proceeds being added to the wage/transfer fee budget. That's a given actually, so you would sell him after all.

Of course I would in an ideal scenario, because realistically EVERY player has a price. If we sold him for £1.5 million upfront ( as I posed in my suggestion ) that would fund the purchase of 3 quality players at this level, which would be a significant positive for Tufty and would go some way towards us having a realistically competitive squad for this season.

The problem is that from a supporters point of view ( not the board's point of view ) it simply doesn't make sense to sell Adams or DCL because the proceeds will not be reinvested in the transfer budget. We know that because that has been the case for years, which is one of the main reasons why we're rotting in self-imposed exile in this agricultural division.

So in practice ...... no I wouldn't sell him.

But I think we will ...... and DCL if there's money offered. And I think the money will be used to pay wages, pay off Hammond & Woolford and paint the directors box. tufty will see little of it and we will all be grumping .......

If Che adams doesnt go for more than 3.5-4.5 m then SUFC need to hang there heads in shame.

If he does well this season then he will easily be worth more than that next season if we get back upto the championship.

All I'm saying is that Adams has attributes but no brain and he is also a bit suspect in his attitude.

I've watched Wilder play and I've followed him as a manager, watched his sides at Halifax for example.

My suggestion is that Adams is not a Wilder sort of player, nor mine actually.

Get an offer of £1.5m and snap their hands off.

Spend the money on McFadzean et al.

Apparently its down to the new deal with the Chinese for the South Stand, they intended to sponsor the Kop as well, but they took one look at the Kop facilities and they weren't impressed. Major deal for the Kop once the toilets have been upgraded.

I hear that the toilet idea came up as a way of going the extra mile for the Chinese investors. The Kop/ South Stand corner will be known as the Nanjing corner, complete with Sushi and Sake bars.

Joking apart there is a massive contingent of Chinese students in Sheffield which are all potential fans and subsequent income base . Saw a young Chinese lad and lass coming down from the university roundabout down Broad Lane in the new blades shirts. , which is a start and nice sign . Better than Man U , Real , Barca .

Every little helps .

Knill has said tonight he is unaware of any bid.
It's a smokescreen folks, no bid rejected, other clubs now alerted to the availability of Adams.

Che is nowhere near as good as Dack "yet"

I never suggested he was. I merely meant Dack is at his ceiling at the top end of L1, bottom end of the Champ, whereas Adams has the potential and raw materials to go much further. In my opinion that's what PL teams pay the bigger bucks for these days.

Sake? Chinese? They hate the Japs (with shed loads of justification) for what they did. When Japan stops honouring monsters in the Yasukuni shrine including the Kempetei, some of us who have respect for the truth these bastards inflicted on everywhere they went one might be able to forgive them.

That was my point... Google Nanjing and Japanese...

Serving traditional Japanese food and drink to try and please our Chinese investors would be a very Sheffield United thing to do.

Yep just like raising the English flag over Holyrood. :)

Cheers Swiss.

As a matter of interest, when you were out there did you ever find out why they just don't get this shit about their past? I mean the education system glosses over the IJ arrmed forces as if it was all bullshit so the Japanese state still lies to its own people. What is it with these cunts?

If modern Germany had a memorial in Berlin to Adolf Hitler and to the Gestapo in Cologne Cathedral, do you honestly think we'd hear the end of it? I have no issue with children of modern Japan but the more I read of accounts of people in the Far East in WWII, yep it sends me off on one.

To be fair they even treat their own people like shit too and were pretty harsh to their own troops/forces in WWII so their behaviour was hardly surprising. It all seems to stem from this honour thing and that they can't ever really apologise and reform because to do so would be some betrayal? It's perverse. They produce excellent technical people have made wonderful advances in robotics and machines yet treated people like utter shite. At times reading some of this stuff makes the Einsatzgruppen look like the Vanorama against the Premier League IJ army.

I am currently reading Nemesis by Max Hastings on the fall of Japan 1944-45 and Christ some of the testimonies in there. Here's one. The US submarine force was the single most effective instrument of Japan losing the war. However it is estimated that 10,000 allied POWs were killed lost on transports moving POWs either from occupied lands to Burma or back to Japan. In one incident a transport was torpedoed and some of of the POWs managed to abandon ship. The Japs then machine gunned them in the water. Some survived this and made it ashore to the Philippines where on arrival they were beheaded by the IJ army. And we are meant to be civil and respect this culture?

It's actually the area where the Scottish Parliament Building is situated.
