I love this time of year where we get linked to 20 players, none of whom we sign, before we sign someone else out of the blue.
You missed out the part when some on here get angry that the players they campaign don't end up getting signed and they go to Cardiff, Stoke, Real Madrid etc. instead.

and the part when players who have been historically linked are signed and it's because the board/manager have no original thought.

And the ones who succeed were wilders signings and those who weren't are someone else's doing
Haha Cannon being case in point.

Also, don't forget the scouting network of some extends to ex-Utd players and anyone that once had a half decent game when playing against Utd at the Lane.

I've already seen plenty of clamour for the return of Brooks, Doyle etc.

The time to sign him was last summer. But being Leeds rival probably would have been an issue even if we weren't broke at the time.

On the back of a good season in Ligue Un, then starring for England u21s going deep in the Euros... He'll be off to Palace or similar, if he doesn't go to Serie A as currently rumoured.

He’s linked to Sunderland this morning.

Granted the bbc gossip colum are quoting the sun but would seem like a decent Sunderland style signing that. Young, potential re-sale and they need someone in to replace Mepham

Any defender (or any player, really) will be thinking long and hard about joining Sunderland given that they're almost certainly going to get relegated and are likely to finish rock bottom with fewer than 20 points.

It’s a massive risk signing for any newly promoted team these days as there’s about a 90% chance whoever it is they come straight back down.

On the other hand you can assume he’d get a very tidy signing on fee and a year of first team football and if he does alright probably another move and decent pay day a year later.

Not a huge risk if you have a relegation release clause. Gets to show bigger teams he can do it at the top level. Sunderland get their money back, just about.
