Bit early to be predicting our lineup for 6 August I know, especially as we still don't know who half the team will be.
But I was wondering how many changes there will be from the team that started against Scunthorpe.
You could only predict with any confidence that one player, Sharp, will have started both games.
We will see in due course but I wonder if there will ever have been so many changes to the Blades' lineup between one season and the next – less than 3 months.
For the record, this was the lineup on 8 May. Warning: those of a nervous disposition, look away now.
Long
Baptiste Edgar McEveley
Coutts (Reed) Basham Hammond (Whiteman) Woolford (Cuvelier) Done
Adams Sharp
unused: Sammon, McGahey, Kelly, Ramsdale

2014-15 final game lineup
Sheffield United 1-1 Chesterfield

Howard
Freeman Brayford McEveley Harris
Scougall Reed Doyle Baxter
McNulty Adams

2015-16 first game lineup
Gillingham 4-0 Sheffield United

Long
Freeman Collins McEveley McFadzean
Murphy Baxter Basham Woolford
Sharp Adams

So the survivors from one season to the next were Freeman, McEveley, Baxter and Adams. (Brayford and Harris would also have started if they'd been fit.) More than we will see in August, at least in the starting XI.

It's realistic that Long, Basham, Done, Adams and Sharp could start the first game of next season.

Possibly, but if he's going with 4-2-3-1 with Sharp up top, I can't see Adams and Done starting. We could have potentially four strikers (Adams, Done, McNulty, Calvert-Lewin) on the bench.

I hope not ........

I would hope that Basham, Done and Adams are on the bench with a bunch of hungry new signings on the pitch .....

My prediction of lineup is .
New Keaper
Brayford new CB new CB hussey
Basham.
New cm. Scougall

Done. Duffy
Sharp

No Adams coz fear we will sell him .

Matthew if you are right the new cm is going to have to be good as I don't think either Basham or Scougall are natural midfielders. If Scougall is playing he will have to be one of the two behind Sharp.

You're right. It will never replace proper music...

To keep the David Bowie theme going, I predict the Golden Years returning to Bramall Lane.

I'm hoping ( but not expecting) for;

New GK

Brayford New CH New CH Hussey

New RW New CM New CM Duffy

Sharp New CF

Truth be told I think we would realistically need to do something along these lines if we're to go up next season.

While I like Long, I don't think he's the rock solid platform a defence needs to give them confidence, Smith gets the nod for me.

We all know the CB situation, personal preferences would be McFadzean & either Pierre or Nelson.

Think Done or Adams could do a reasonable job as a RM, but think Holmes would be a stronger shout.

None of our CM's have really done enough to convince me they're capable of running a game, although a good attacking CM along side Basham could be a reasonable partnership.

Can't see McNulty starting and Adams can be hit and miss. Would like to see us take a punt on either Akinde or Simpson.
