Can't see us winning again this season

Not a rant as such but I can't see us winning again this season.

However, as disappointing as we have been past 2 games (and this one currently), we don't have a right to complain at this bunch considering their exploits under CWAK up to now. I've mentioned previously Wilder seemed to emphasise how difficult the lads are finding it without fans. I can imagine it feeling a bit flat going from playing in front of a full house, to playing out a glorified training session in order to fill the greedy pockets of the PL directors...
 



Need a massive improvement in the last 3 performances. We have looked like the team that everyone expected us to be at the start of the season.

I can kind of accept that it’s men v boys against Man Utd, but it was against Newcastle as well.
 
Could we be the new Charlton? Get to 40 points and then fall apart.

We were due a response after Villa. Then after Newcastle. Now after Manchester United. By Sunday evening it will be 'Wilder will get a response from them, he won't stand for that five games in a row'.
 
We went 1 - 0 down on 6 minutes. We're clearly lacking confidence and the last thing you want against Man U is an early goal. We actually started well prior to their goal. It was a disappointing performance, but I don't think we lacked effort. Man U just are a different class to us. They have been improving all season and sadly we're looking tired. Martial and Rashford are one of the best partnerships in the league.

Lets not overreact and see how we do against the remaining games. Three games away from home's not easy either and the fact Man U got two days more rest than us didn't help either.

None of the above changes the fact that I hated watching that, it was so disappointing to watch but I don't think its a time for hyper criticism.

Nobody on this thread is losing their heads mate. We have been poor by our own high standards and the fans are acknowledging it 👍
 
I thought tonight was an improvement on Villa and Newcastle, some nice play in areas but never looked threatening.

We looked better with Moose and McG up top, their pace gave us options and pulled away defenders at times. Man United’s quality showed though and our second choice back line made it easy for them at times.

Ziv we’ve not seen enough of to judge I’d say, others though not looking interested for spells.

Its just a shame we’ve seemingly fizzled our now, it’s a bit like the first season back in the Champ in my opinion.

Going 1-0 early was our fault, it wasn't something that just happened to us. It doesn't put the performance in context, it forms part of the performance.

You can support and still criticise a series of bad performances. We haven’t been at the races, people are expressing their opinions on that. If we start next season like we’ve started since the break we’re in for a long season. They need to improve and get back to the levels we have seen them perform to.

Completely agree.

In one sense, this might be viewed as a bit of a blessing in a very heavy disguise to the extent that it gives CW a hint as to which of the squad might be susceptible to the 'second season syndrome' that plenty talk about. It's a timely warning.

The 3 month break has completely killed the organisation and drive that I was confident was going to carry us through to a brilliant end of season.

Pretty much anything that could wrong, has done starting with JOC colliding with Henderson on the eve of the restart. And as Wilder has alluded, some of them seem to be feeling sorry for themselves.

I'm struggling to see any victories in the remaining fixtures as our fixture list seems to be comprised of teams who have taken to playing behind closed doors like ducks to water.

Mind you, just as we are questioning why our players are struggling in these conditions, supporters of some those clubs like Man U, might equally question why some of their handsomely paid supstars can suddenly turn it on in a glorified training ground match and not in the heat of battle in front of a crowd.

Finally, I do hope that Man City win their appeal to make all the Champions League talk academic not only for us but also for Man U, Spurs and others.

I'm aware it was our fault. Norwood could have done better admittedly but it was also good play from them. From then onwards its a mountain to climb. That's all I'm saying and the difference in their squad and ours is huge.

I'll wait for games that we can more compete in to assess. What happened at Newcastle was due to the ten men and some quality play from them We didn't play well granted but we were well in that until we went down to ten and then made an uncharacteristic defensive lapse.
 
Why can't we compete with Manchester United now when we could earlier in the season? That seems indicative of problems to me, but a lot of people seem happy to write this one off when we were disappointed with a draw a few months ago.

I don't know why I'm posting so much to be honest, it's already to hot without starting arguments.

Said this on the match thread that I think this is a far better Man U side than we played earlier in the season.

We could have at least tried to make a game of it though.
 
I thought the same regarding the title of this thread after the Newcastle match (but despite our below par performance this evening) I now think in some ways this performance was an improvement on the Newcastle match 3 days ago. Man U were just on it today and their class really shined through too which made us look a bit worse. Especially as they went 1-0 up after 6 mins we were always going to be up against it after that to be fair - yes our performance was still not good enough but the only way I'm looking at it (albeit still disheartening) is it's our first season back at this level away at Old Trafford.

Going off of this match I think we'll become gradually better and adjust to the difference of no spectators as the remainder of this season goes on. Whether we clinch some wins along the way is still debatable but we'll see as time will tell.

Don’t mind losing but the body language from some of the players they had given up if they play like that in training the goalie must be sat on a deckchair with his shades on
