Can't remember such media ridicule?

Despite the utter gross witnessed in L1, we knew we'd climb out eventually. Whilst it was deflating, I wanted to experience the turnaround.

At present, it very much feels like we've peaked and I can't see how the club will ever reinvent itself into an established top flight competitor.

Its a different level of deflation.
We have gone as fr as hard work and effort can take us
The next step we wont ever achieve until we find a Dave Whelan type philanthropic owner

we cant bridge the class gap as we simply dont have the financial clout
Princey has took us as far as his bank balance covers , which is championship level at best

we look short of quality for the simple reason we cant begin to match clubs like palace wolves and brighton , never mind the top 6 or 7
we have bought a couple of 20m plus players but the others spend that on the sub bench back ups

we will be fine in the championship as we are still competitive at that level, but being in the prem with no money is like having a car with no petrol in it

This is the problem (if it actually is one) with football; the huge, and increasing, gap between the Premier League and anyone else.

United are where they are because they are the team that is most shit, end of story basically.
However, put that team into the Championship and they would be in or about the top six.

There was no sports science and conditioning. There was no data being logged to enable players to be in peak physical condition.
Everybody was playing pissed back then. Most of them are tee-total during the season these days.

Souness, Dalglish etc. at their absolute PEAK wouldn't see out 90 minutes against a team these days. They'd literally tire out in half hour.

Also worth noting is that there was hardly any players playing abroad. The Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool teams you mention had 100% British/Irish players.
Now we have the best players in the World in the English game.
There's a reason that Liverpool were able to play Monchengladbach in 1977 and Club Brugge in the 1978 - because they had all the best German and Belgian players at the time (because everybody played in their home countries).
There's a reason why neither of those teams have been in European finals since the 1970s.
How many of the current Belgium squad actually play in Belgium? I'd guess at <20%

Today's Forest team would beat the 1979 Forest team
Today's Villa team would beat the 1982 Villa team
Today's Liverpool team would beat the 1977 & 78 Liverpool teams
If I was to do a combined Villa side from 82 and the current team most would be from the 82 team. Martinez - Swain - Evans - konsa/Torres - Digne Mortimer - Cowans - Kamara - Morley - Withe - Shaw

Watkins far better than Withe

He is a very dislikeable little prick isn't he. Timmy from sky sports. Contemptible character. Wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

Anyway,it's not all bad news. A lot of these wankers are out of contract in the summer and others will be moved on. We have some excellent young lads coming through. Time for a reset in the summer.
I'd piss on him if he wasn't.

Hold on, so we're not still going to go on a miraculous run and perform the greatest escape in Premier League history?

Must be bad if even you've thrown the towel in.

Wilder's made a complete plonker of himself with the sandwich quote, but at least he's made the point and refs will have noticed. Fair play to him.

Just caught up with MOTD which normally gets my goat but I thought Jonathan Pierce in commentary had it bang right. Pundits ok too but doubt they watched it.

I like Pearce. Clearly has a lot of knowledge about clubs lower down the league. I remember when we played Bristol City in the cup and he basically reeled off all our players from the 70s.

He was absolutely stunning in his early days with Capital too

The reason why Dave Whelan sold Wigan is that he got fed up of the fans expecting more spending. If I was filthy rich I wouldn't buy us never mind any other clubs big or small.
Quite right mate. The way the game has evolved you'd need to be a billionaire and be happy to provide the interest from your interest in support of the club. Unless you're the equivalent of an Abramovich, having a few hundred million simply won't cut it if you want to deliver sustainable Prem survival.

Burnley are getting a "pass" from the pundits because Kompany is a "fashionable" manager. He's got PL pedigree, and he played for, and captained, media darlings City. To them, it doesn't matter how shite Burnley are, they are "Vincent Kompany's Burnley" so their shortcomings will be, to an extent, overlooked, and replaced with words like "plucky, brave" etc.

We on the other hand have an unfashionable, agricultural manager, who says things that upset the applecart. Plus we are almost irredeemably shit (saturday's result notwithstanding).

Both teams are clearly out of their depth at this level, so are rightly getting pelters left right and centre from the pundits and media. Difference is Burnley have a media darling manager.

The media were angling for a ‘dream’ narrative of Gerrard to Liverpool, Lampard to Chelsea and Kompany to City.

Any criticism spoils the credibility.

In truth Lampard did worse that Gary Rowett at Derby in terms of points and I don’t remember him being one of the candidates for the Chelsea job. Warnock has gone in and improved more teams you can care to remember and Wilder whipped him with a lesser budget when he was at Derby. Where was the media clamour for them?

Gerrard did well to take advantage of a season of transition at Celtic but got out when he knew they’d be back once they got their house in order. He did nothing at Villa and is living on his name rather than his ability in Saudi Arabia.

Then comes Kompany. Finished ahead of us with a freshly relegated team and plenty of funds from player sales and then spunked 100m+ to be worse than Luton by 7 points and better than us by goal difference and that is massively helped by some questionable refereeing that saw McBurnie take two yellows to give them a free run at 10 men for 50+ minutes; I watched them both recently and the second is never a yellow. If it is then prepare for games to finish 8 v 8 with both centre backs and centre forwards gone in each game. I feel he gets very harsh treatment from the Refs that I don’t see with other more glamourous clubs.

So whilst we have complained we don’t have a plan at times or under Wilder we are finding our way, what is Kompany’s plan? Because it’s a pretty shit one to be level with us if we are so bad!

Nothing against Burnley, another hard working northern club, but the free pass and almost complete absence of criticism of Kompany because of the wider narrative sticks in the craw.

Guaranteed if Pep decides he’s had enough Kompany will be propelled to the top of the list.

Hopefully we can edge ahead of them just to show the media up for being such a bunch of biased knownowts.

It was a tap in and he nearly sliced the chance wide. Hit the post and went in. He was poor throughout the final and I thought he was going to get subbed
I really applaud and respect your detailed knowledge and recollection of anything Blade’s ….but ….to also branch out to other clubs , like Villa , is truly remarkable.

Bravo

You should go on Mastermind

….specialist subject….

Tap in goals from the mid to late 70’s, early 80’s - on foreign fields - by bearded players - following goalie substitutions within the first 90 seconds

Just to address Sandwich Gate no man born from his mother's cunt would hold conversation with someone who's eating a sandwich and looking like your least important thing on planet. It'd boil my piss and I'm with him on that.

FA don't like people who speak there mind. They can get fucked.

Just read Chris Sutton's BBC predictor article. Don't know why I bother but:

"Beating the Hatters gave Chris Wilder's side a tiny glimmer of hope of avoiding the drop but, after this result, I am expecting them to feel as flat as a leftover pancake from Shrove Tuesday."

Cock.

Why is he a cock for saying that?

I mean, I don't particularly like Chris Sutton but it's not a daft thing to say.

Team bottom of the the league who've only won three games all season get predicted to lose again.

Why are our fans so tetchy about this kind of thing?

Why do you expect anybody to like us or give a shit about us when we've been an embarrassment all season?

Post of the year right ☝️

Because we haven't been an embarrassment all season. We ran come teams close at the start of the season, have had some absolute shitshows but we played well last week, beat a team who previous week had drawn with Newcastle and week before that beat Brighton. I don't think there is a need to be such a dick.

I think also as a club we aren't expecting to win every match so we won't be as flat as a pancake. We will be more like a oversized yorkshire pudding, a bit up, a bit down, some hard bits some soggy bits.

Stopped reading at this.

Get your head in the real world.
I wouldn't say we have been an embarrassment.

I'm not saying we deserve to stay up either but at the start of the season we ran totteham and City close.

We won against wolves

Since wilder has taken over we have looked more competitive.

Newcastle and villa were absolutely an embarrassment but west ham lost 6-0 against arsenal last week.
