Not singling Brewster out for todays poor display, especially as he probably had his best game. But lets be fair the bar was pretty low. Wilder talks about a guy learning his trade. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury. So how much is Brewster worth in the January window and who can we get for that money.

Personally I don't have a clue just thought it was a snappy title.

At best we can loan him to Swansea where he'll get firing hopefully in time for us next season, or to make it possible to sell him in the summer for a decent fee.

To be fair tho, I think him and Mcburnie and even Burke would do ok in that league if we go down. And it hurts me to even say that about Mcburnie lol

We need decent midfielders to bring these lazy fuckers to life. Our midfield are just another line defenders at the moment. We are seriously missing pro active footballers who can, (A) run with the ball (B) select the right pass (C) stop giving the ball away, (D) influence and dictate the play, (E) get into attacking positions, (F) Defend further up the pitch, etc etc.
If the lads up front had a couple of players behind them who could do all these basic things consistently. They’d have half dozen goals a each.
Unfortunately the service ain’t there, the support ain’t there and attack minded midfielders ain’t there either.

I would say McBurnie and Burke would not.
Brewster might.
McGoldrick probably.

I know what you’re saying, that Burke and McB haven’t shown the necessary composure required to be Premier league strikers. But if we had midfielders in and around the box more often, it would naturally give opposition defenders a bit more to worry about. Thus affording our strikers a bit more time and space on the ball.
At moment the opposition defences are all smoking big cigars when they play us.

CROSS THE FUCKING BALL FFS , we get it down the wing only to pass it back to the center line , MOTD highlighted 3 occasions in one move where the ball could have been crossed and it went back to the defense , why the fuck don't they cross it.
Just watch how Ferguson's Man Utd used to play , its not rocket science , down the wing and cross it in , owt could happen when you cross it with pace ,own goal , keeper spilling it , or even one of our strikers getting on the end of it
That final 3rd of the pitch is where we are failing , i can see it , why cant our coaches see it , change it now .

I agree with you, but I’d ask you two questions:

What current midfield players playing in the prem between 6/7th and 20th would you say you’re describing? I think maybe oxlade chamberlain? But he’s playing for the team in 1st. Who are the others that you’re describing?

How would you set the midfield up shape wise? Would you have two sitting pivots and one infront like the championship season and look to control possession? That’s gonna be hard at this level. Or would you have a brute at CDM and two more attacking centre mids, one either side? If so, those two are going to have to cover A LOT of ground, prime lundstram or basham levels of energy, but with an output too.

I’ll also say finally... which players do you think would be interested in coming to United at the moment? I mean, even if we offer 70k a week, it’s gonna be half that when we go down isn’t it. So which top player is gonna come knowing they’re gonna be on 35k in 4 months time? We’re in a tricky situation recruitment wise.

To me all the attributes I’ve listed are basic requirements for a Premier league midfielder, Wilder has said as much himself in the past. The nearest thing we have to a premier league midfielder is Sander Berge, but sadly it quickly became apparent, he wasn’t suited to our team set-up or style of play.
Unfortunately our JTW ambitions are dead in the water. Even half decent loan deals are going to be difficult, with our seemingly hopeless situation in the league.

Brewster, Burke, McB aren't the problem, it's our fucking anonymous midfield which means the defence just hump it....not one player in the middle of the park capable of picking the ball up and driving forward or playing a decent throughball or putting in a cross.....just side to side and backwards....and repeat

How come McGoldrick is doing ok goal wise.
Honestly if you think Burke is going to score goals given chances just take a look at his record.
If you think McBurnie is going tp score look at last season's performances in the league (the draw with Brighton is a particularly good example, the writing was on the wall).
Brewster I'm willing to spare, for now.

This, this and thrice this.

Our main problems start and end with our current midfield.

The fabled engine room of yesteryear has become a graveyard. It's like watching Wier's team sometimes.

Fucking hell what I wouldn't give to have 3 months of Coutts, Fleck and Duffy in their pomp now. We'd walk to safety even from this position.

The whole point of Brewster wasn’t about short termism.
He’s an investment for the long term....in a few years msny experts in the game predict he’ll be one of the best strikers in the PL.

Then....like many do regards Kyle Walker and Dominic Calvert-Lewin....no doubt we’ll have the “why didn’t we keep Brewster” comments.

The irony is that the club has shown unimaginable ambition buying Berge and Brewster.
Many said we need to think big if we want success....we’ve shown big ambition and at the moment it’s backfired.
The big test will be.....who we keep for next season...and if we make a genuine attempt at instant promotion.

Some of our fans are so short sighted at times. You're judging Brewster now during a prolonged period of having no confidence (alongside every other player) and especially no midfield to support him. I will guarantee that from next season with a far stronger supply line with a brand new midfield, the confidence will return when we're back in the Championship and Brewster will be worth double what we paid for him in two years time. By the time we return to the Premier league, hopefully for the 22/23 season, Brewster will be a diamond.

Like to see the quotes/source material.

He may go on and do well but at the moment the evidence is we have spent a lot of money on a dud sad to say it.

Not seen anything Farnboroughblade for such an outlandish guarantee.. worth double the money?! How can you be so confident?

At the moment I have seen nothing barely even a glimpse to suggest he is going to be a star. Are others seeing something I'm not? This he just needs service is codswallop too...I expect him to do the basics first. If he can barely control a Football then why do people think if he gets a few more passes/crosses he will suddenly look amazing? I've barely seen him get in the box yet?

Watching him kick two crosses hopelessly out of play under no pressure and the ball constantly just getting away from him made me genuinelly gulp. Technically he is really poor. He is slow and weak but more than that he does not know where to run.

Maybe he will suddenly develop these things but I don't even see the raw talent I thought this lad had? Genuinelly I am not sure I see anymore in him than that Zivkovic who every one said he was miles out off his depth.

Its as if he cost 23 million so he must come good or have talent. If he had veen a free/loan with no PL experience (same as Brewster) like Zivkovic I feel many would be panning him. It's like he cost a lot so he must one day come good!

Above may seem harsh or short sighted and I may look daft in a few years but I can only go on what I've seen so far and I am stunned how bad he has been...young lad or not...he looks woefully out of his depth.

Bang on brother.

Appreciate your point Deadbat, but as I stated he hasn't shown anything like his potential simply because he's had no supply. All I have witnessed is what he can do from his loan spells in the Championship and unfortunately that's where we're heading. Just put it down to gut feeling.

As I say what has supply got to do with the fact he cannot even control the ball properly or do simple things? Those two crosses where he just kicked it out were eye popping. These are basic football skills that he does not seem to possess.

That is down to lack of confidence, much like the rest of the team's errors. Wouldn't mind putting on a wager with you, to charity of coarse, my gut feeling v your views on what you have seen of him, that in the championship with a stronger midfield he will hit 15+ goals next season.

I'm hoping he'll start scoring when we drop down a division like Ched Evans did when we dropped into L1 - he looked pretty hopeless when he played in the Championship, but looked a player transformed when he started scoring in L1 and playing with confidence.

I doubt Brewster is as bad as current performances may suggest. He's come into a struggling team and been starved of the ball and chances. I'm sure his poor play have in part been down to a lack of confidence and being left isolated up top. When he does get the ball, he's had very few options and zero support from our absent midfield.

One green shoot is that he seems to have upped his work rate in the last couple of games and looks to get involved in the game rather than waiting for the game to come to him. He's shown a better attitude and some fight.

As others have said though, our biggest problem is the midfield not getting a foothold in the game. I'd seriously consider ditching the back 5 now and try to get more bodies in midfield. None of the players who have stepped in at LCB have got forward and there's a massive gap between defence and attack. If the defenders don't get up the pitch to create the overloads, then the system doesn't work.

This is exactly right..^^^^^^^^
Our play in general is not too bad, UNTIL we get to the oppositions box, then we are clueless !

This signing reminds me on when we took a punt on Woodburn, Wilson and Chapman(?). They all had big reputations but turned out to be gash. Unfortunately, we seem to be stuck with Brewster. The kindest thing you could say is that he is failing to live up to his price tag.

Not of the standard of Chamberlin but Conor Hourihane? A realist signing that wouldn't cost a fortune. Scores goals, Deadball expert and a great crosser. Would also be a huge asset if relegation happened.

I'm hoping too but with Ched I think the change in the stlye of play also helped him.

Not sure what you are watching but Brewster does get in the box.
You can see the frustration on his face he's desperate for a decent ball to him in the box.
How many genuine goal scoring opportunities have we created for him,
i'm struggling to think of one.
We tip tap about with the ball outside the area for about two minutes then hit a slow high cross that is either caught by the keeper or headed clear by 6ft plus defenders.
Brewster, Burke, Mousset are not going to win headers against 6ft plus defenders especially when we seem incapable of hitting a cross with some pace on it, even McBurnie is not that great in the air.
The way we are playing i think Alan Shearer in his prime would struggle to score we just don't create chances.
We have even had an opposition Goalkeeper take the piss on social media.
