On Monday night, the atmosphere at St James's Park was great from the Blades fans. Many reasons for this (and a day on the ale helps) but I think mostly it was to do with the fact that everyone has faced up to our season being over and done with. We aren't going up, we aren't going down... so for the last few games of the season, I propose that everyone just chills the fuck out and has a laugh.

It's four games, I'm sure even the most manic depressive can put their worries to one side for four games?

For a few years now, a lot of Blades have been caught up in promotion pushes and I think they've lost sight of the simple pleasures - watching United actually pass the ball, the humour on the stands and all that jazz. Some people have started to take themselves, and United, far too seriously. Then when it inevitably doesn't go the way they want it to go, they get upset. Fair enough... but what's the point in getting so stressed about something you have absolutely no control over?

So bugger all the crap that's been talked this season and as far as Blackwell goes (or stays), que sera, sera. These last few games aren't going to make a blinding bit of difference in the long term. Start getting stressed in the summer when we're trying to buy players but for now, give yourself a break. Breathe deeply.

And look, the sun's out. Drag your arse over to the Golden Lion and say hello to some of the idiots off here if you haven't already. You've got two home matches in which to do so.

Get your paintbrushes and rubber rings ready for your trip to Hillsborough. Get your fancy dress ready for your trip to Ipswich.

If you're into that kind of thing, go and read Porktalk. It certainly puts some things into perspective.

And for god's sake... bloody cheer up :D You'll either be here next season or you won't.

.

I was there on Saturday! Idiots is being very, very polite. Mind you they now sell SV nuts in there...sour, bitter and a bit old :D :D

Good post Linz but until the board come out and back their man there will be an undertone to every match, especially if things don't go our way.
The board aren't going to do anything publicly until the summer so I think this odd atmosphere at home games will continue.

Most of us are daft enough to admit that we're idiots though :D

Sentient mentalists.

I think most people at the Lion have decided that it's too much effort to carry on being miserable... all we can do is sing as we go.

Need that bloody 'thanks' button again!!!

I might venture down to the Lion on Saturday, dependent on my Saturday morning match not running over. Now I've just popped my face in the members pictures thread you can give me a shout when I'm looking lost.... ;)

Got it, nothing to see here

oh sorry you mean us! i thought that you were on about the management :-)

Not been sleeping at all well over last few months - a few upheavals and personal losses, so i chilled out a while ago about the Blades. Thanks for reminding me about more important things. Now what sort of rubber were you thinking about? the paint brush and paint will now be smuggled in to Sty land upon your suggestion and i'm really looking forward to that, Cheers.

Not really Linz, not for as long as the pathetic clown is in charge. I'll enjoy a beer in the sun anytime and still get enjoyment out of a Saturday at the game but as Bob says their is a huge undercurrent of discontent

I don't agree with what I see as the undercurrent to your thread that for me is saying people who slate Blackwell take things too seriously and can't relax and have a few beers. This is trotted out time and time again and just like plenty of what I say is simply not right or a fair assumption.

It is nowt like that at all. I just want to watch some decent football from a Blades side containing players I can recognise and get behind as being our own, belonging to the club. Winning all time is not what I'm after, would be a bonus but just a bit of cohesion and unity would be nice.

I also enjoy posting and ranting about Blackwell and McCabe on here. Doesn't mean I havent got owt else to do and I must stress under no circumstances do I think slating Blackwell on here is going to make a difference.

And do you really think that's going to change for the last four games Mic?

It's the "I'm going to be bloody miserable no matter what" attitude that I don't understand. The team can't change until the summer. The management might not change until after that.

Why torture yourself by setting deadlines on your misery i.e. "not for as long as Blackwell is in charge" (you'll note that I don't resort to calling people names who aren't here to defend themselves)?

Why not go and watch United and if we play well... be happy about it? Yeah, it'll be a bit crap if we suffer a defeat but in the grand scheme of things, not the end of the world. In fact, everyone should be bloody ecstatic as not that long ago, people were mentioning relegation!

I think we've got some proper emos attached to the club at the moment who'd probably be better off following The Cure or something :D Taking pleasure out of misery is not something that really floats my boat.

Mica, do you agree with the opinion that the Premiership ruined the club both on the field and off it.

It seems to me the biggest effect it has had is on the fans. This is by no means the worse side I've seen at United, nor the worst manager. I'm hoping this lowering of the wage bill and bringing in quite a few new players will get us back to the more realistic atmosphere we used to have before promotion. Obviously from my own point of view I want a new manager in but with a modest wage bill I would be happy with a corresponding league position. Hopefully the fans will also adjust their expectations accordingly.

What are you on about with this misery stuff? Slating Blackwell equals miserable person - nice stuff Linz. I love nowt more than supping in sunshine before a trip to BDTBL. I still love going to BDTBL - I just detest Blackwell. Detest his personality, his tactics and his ability as a manager. Nowt is changing that. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop going. I'm not sure what you're on about to be honest Linz. As I said above, I know I aint making a difference and I know the team aint changing.

Who or what are 'emos'?

No - I totally disagree with that opinion.

I've never seen such a unified club. Atmosphere was sensational vast majority of time and seeing BDTBL packed every game will live with me forever.

I think what you are saying is you'd prefer 15k crowds with 'true Blades' only? I totally disagree with as well if that is what you are saying.

Excellent post Linz. I can't get up to Sheffield this Saturday but I've decided to go and watch Boston v Guisely instead (top of the table clash for the Unibond league). I haven't watched Boston for a couple of years - they've been in dire trouble, but they're flying again now.

Grass roots stuff. Can't beat it.

And they've got an ex-Blade in charge (Rob Scott is one of the two joint-managers).

Great post Linz, echoes my sentiments exactly.

Football is for fun and to escape from real life.

I just can't understand why some people take it so seriously unless they are devoid of friends, family and meaning in their lives.

UTB

That doesn't mean I'm going to stop going.

Does that mean you coming to the Cov match now? Nice one, see you in the boozer. I'll tell you all about the Barnsley game you missed over a pint.

I sort of agree.

The season's not over yet for us though and won't be until the 19th April. Whilst we still have a good chance of screwing them over big time I'll find it hard to chill out. Also I think there's too much apathy already, yes try not to let it ruin your life but it would be sad if mass chilling out resulted in an even quieter Brammall Lane even if it is for 2 more games.

Also although I think it's extremely unlikely I feel that we're getting to the stage where there are more people that would like to see a new manager than keep Blackwell and although I hope McCabe is capable of seeing and feeling this himself there's always the possibility that he isn't. It does all get a bit moany at times and I include myself in that but most of the time regardless of whether things are positive or negative it's still nice to see people care. What doesn't feel good for me is that more and more nowadays you see people at games who don't seem to care.

Is it possible to be slating someone and remain happy? Can you be so filled with hatred for the bloke, but still smile?

I've got a mental image of you cheerily watching the game until Blackwell enters your field of vision. Then the clouds descend... Black! (ie) Black! (ie)

Haha, I can't make our home game this weekend so we're off to see Worcester City v Lewes in the conference south. It's probably going to decide who goes down out of these 2 teams! Worcester are 5 points above Lewes in the final relegation place but Lewes have 2 games in hand!

The only trouble is, Worcester play in the blue and white stripes. :(

Hehehe... I've received negative reputation for my opening missive.

Hit some nerves? :D

>It's the "I'm going to be bloody miserable no matter what" attitude that I don't understand
i think it is a little harsh to suggest that anyone actually goes out to be miserable. i think that the teams utter ineptitude has something to do with this

>emos attached to the club at the moment
emos??.. i've not seen any emos at the games.. perhaps they only go to night matches or all turned up for the whitby fixture :-).. i'm not happy at being branded a cure fan btw.. they are the epitomy of shit.

Heres my take.

The season's over, I realised this begrudgingly after the Dingles game, of course it's still mathmatically possible and of course we've been banging on for a while now about how crap we are, but I was hanging onto a glimmer of hope. Saturday washed away that hope. We were up against a very poor side and we proved ourselves to be a very poor side. The season has taken its toll as the team didn't look like the Blades I know.

Roll on to the Newcastle United Show on Monday night on Sky and we held ourselves up well. What happened to that spirit v the Dingles? I guess that sums up our season.

Yet again a controversy on the goal masked our inability to do the defensive things right, such is life. Is it me or are we always involved in controversy?

But it wasn't just on the pitch that made me realise that we're done with a handful of games to go, it was the crowd, the manager everything...

My views on the club, the players and the manager haven't changed, I'm just counting down the games and will have my final game of the season at the pig sty (my first ever appearance at a Pig Sty Derby). I'm only slightly disappointed that it'll be my last game of the season because I love having a pre match beer in the sun but its also our first season in years that we'll go into the last games relaxed. So hopefully Blackie will play a few of the youngsters....

I'm going to enjoy the last couple of weeks, for once i'll have a preseason without the last day misery.

I'll be there next season, I suspect a few won't be, but so what, if you're not into it then thats your choice.

Normally I look back on a season and recount the highs and lows... too many lows, too many let downs, no where near enough highs...

Will we do better next season? I doubt it, but for now i'll drink a few beers to the Blades and enjoy the summer!
