He did, however against a league 2 midfield.
Coventrys midfield will be too much for him.
Sadly at his current levels l think you could be right.

He has been pretty poor since he came back but he must certainly didn’t stink the place out today. If the alternative is Arblaster than I hope he gets back quickly. In all the excitement, Arblaster absolutely stinking the place out after he came on has been missed.
If Arblaster starts more than a couple of games for us between now and the end of the season, we're not going to be close to making top 6....
Cyril Connolly?Kalvin Phillips
I thought he looked good first half. Although it has to be said, their midfield was fucking dreadful so I probably would have looked half decent.Interesting fact about Phillips, hes played 19 games on loan at West Ham, Ipswich and us and hes been sent off 3 times, now thay can't be unlucky can it?
Real shame as I thought he was finding his feet with us and was a more than adequate replacement for Jairo.
God help usArblaster will start v Cov & Jairo on the bench. I’d like it to be the other way round - but it’ll no doubt take Jairo a few games to be match fit
He should be back for Cov. Even if Wilder wanted to leave it until QPR I think we're now forced into involving him vs Cov.Is Jairo back from injury or close? Not being a dick just missed any updates.
He’s by far our most competent midfielder imo.
Massive downgrade on Jairo tooHe's decent at what he does. Getting a foot in and playing it simple. Don't get the hype personally. Massive downgrade on Souza. Definitely a red.
I completely agree with you. As Wilder says everything looks worse when slowed down. The whole incident happened in a millisecond. Phillips played the ball and his natural body mechanics caused his foot to carry through, there was no intention to go through on Ingelsson whose leg came across Phillips' foot. Yes sometimes players deliberately follow through to injure an opponent, sometimes they deliberately go over the top. I don't think Phillips tried to do either of these things and am surprised by the way this has been viewed by some of the pundits.Having said this, there is no chance of overturning the decision in this day and age.I didn't think it was a red card at the time and having seen it again I still don't. He wins the ball by kicking the ball and his foot is still in the air from that action when Ingelsson runs into him. It's not as if Ingelsson was stood still and Phillips went through him, he ran into Phillips as he kicked the ball so I don't know how Phillips is supposed to move his foot out of the way in time.
On the other hand, how did Palmer not even get a yellow card, despite several yellow card challenges?
People judging Phillips on less than 2 full games is ridiculous. For the record I thought he was playing well before the sending off.
The laws of the game don’t count for winning the ball, a direct free kick can be given for amongst other things, tackles or challengesI didn't think it was a red card at the time and having seen it again I still don't. Kicking John Terry in the head will never be a red card offence. See section 9 rule 33.7.1.
I don't doubt what the laws of the game say, but if you've ever kicked a ball with any power, it's natural that your foot will continue in it's trajectory. You cannot retract it instantaneously at the moment your foot strikes the ball and that's all Phillips does. Ingelsson collides with his foot a millisecond after he's made contact with the ball. Furthermore, I would suggest that if Phillips had managed to use less force, he would have got injured himself in the challenge. The laws of the game don’t count for winning the ball, a direct free kick can be given for amongst other things, tackles or challenges
The red card comes into play if the referee deems the player has used excessive force. Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent. Not the greatest angle on the screenshot from the Sky clip but the ball has long gone from the initial tackle and the follow through is high with studs up and excessive force. The referee had a good view of it too. If that was against us we would have been calling for the red to be fair, Phillips could have easily snapped the ankle it wasn’t a nice challenge.
The game’s gone is a valid statement for sure. I totally get from where you are coming from and physically Phillips probably couldn’t have done anything different in that situation , the Laws are written and interpreted now to protect the player on the “receiving end”. Intent is too hard to prove which is why they reworded it. But it’s up to the tackler to make that split second decision as to whether the action is going to be safe, although it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether it is an automatic 3 match ban, I would like that bit changing, maybe a match review panel for a mitigation.I don't doubt what the laws of the game say, but if you've ever kicked a ball with any power, it's natural that your foot will continue in it's trajectory. I think a way forward would be instead of having those who continually faff about with the laws of the game, and probably get paid lots of money for it despite probably never having kicked a ball in their lives, they actually use ex-players and managers who have had real experience of playing. See also the current handball rule which is equally ridiculous and unrealistic. The spectacle of defenders having to cross their arms behind their backs is ludicrous. The game’s gone is a valid statement for sure. Ultimately a sin-bin approach could be a way forwards, where the player is red carded however VAR has 10 minutes to review the footage and if there isn’t intent the player can return to the field after 10 mins in the bin otherwise the red card stands and it’s early bath time. It would need some working out but there are a few changes that could be brought in. Rugby Unions “mitigating factors” is a good one, in their example if a player is being tackled but is falling and there is head contact rather than being automatically a red card that is taken into consideration on a threshold approach.
This isn’t meant as a dig in the slightest but for me the handball law is the funniest part of the book, I don’t know if you have a copy or have seen it online but the drawings are like what the hell are they on. The Laws are often over complex don’t get me started about offside, how the grassroots guys and girls decide that I will never know. The Laws are adjusted through the IFAB which are an independent panel, which amongst reps from the “home nations” and FIFA have ex-players/managers such as Luis Figo and Arsène Wenger. Along with Pierluigi Collina, there is a voting system for law changes and the ex-players extra are part of think tank working parties, no idea how much they are paid for it mind.I think a way forward would be instead of having those who continually faff about with the laws of the game, and probably get paid lots of money for it despite probably never having kicked a ball in their lives, they actually use ex-players and managers who have had real experience of playing. VAR is a joke. They can spend 10 minutes analysing a decision and still get it wrong.
I’m thinking it is simply regarded as excessive force and endangering an opponent.I'm a simple boy with a very simple mindset.
Everyone is telling me his card was a red every day
Where else was he suppose to put his foot after clearing the ball?
