Goalie was £500k.

It might be £500k one day depending on us hitting targets ( :o )..it might not, £250k is what we've paid up front.... I would imagine...

I don't believe there's s football club in the land that pays the whole figure up front...

Would it surprise you, if we were the one club that did that?

Well said S.E.B.

I believe (admittedly I'm not expert on the subject) that up to a certain age, academy players must play for a club within their region. If I remember rightly Southampton have a large area to chose from, where they're relatively unrivalled.

The only other clubs in their area are Portsmouth and Bournemouth (Brighton a bit further away), and they all have pretty a poor academy in comparison. The catchment area rules are strict. Under 12s must live within an hours travel from the club, 13-16 is 90 minutes travel. There have been a few instances of very talented youngsters under 12 being approached by clubs and parents moving (with club assistance??) to within the catchment area. The rules for level 1 and 3 academies are very different as well, and when kids get to 16 they can move to another club (compensation then payable). Southampton seem to get more good kids than most others though. They would be an interesting study on how to do it, but like you said, they have a bit of an advantage.

So, how is De Girolamo getting on at Juventus?

Oh...
He must be a perfect example to all the youngsters that for all the ability you have, it means nothing without the right attitude. He will never make it unless someone switches the light on in his head

This was widely reported. And RS mentioned the fee explicitly to Wilder. If there was a confidentiality agreement I don't think that would have happened.
You don't half latch onto things that fit your clapper agenda eh Rod. ;)

I think we paid £250k. Which means more unspent in the Adams money kitty.

Same owd, same owd...

To be fair it was undisclosed but widely reported as £500k.

I hardly have an agenda Barn, it's just my bum doesn't start flapping / start getting a toot on at the first sign of bad news.

We surely can't be paying 500k for a 3rd choice GK in his last year of his contract, who incidently couldn't even get a game. That would be daft even by our standards.

The catchment area for any coastal town/city is 50% lower than any inland town/city

It's travel time rather than distance they measure. I suppose for them that takes in Isle of Wight, some Channel Islands, all of Hampshire, most of Sussex, most of Dorset, some of Surrey, some of Wiltshire, some of Berkshire and a bit of Oxfordshire. It does reduce down because it's coastal, but then they have little competition within their catchment distance compared with say, SUFC, who have Wednesday, Leeds, Bradford, both Manchester clubs, Derby, Forest, Hull to compete with.

It wasn't £500k :)

It was less with potential addons.

Halve that and you're close. The one good thing at this stage in the season is we can promise to pay more if we get promoted :D:Do_O

Is that because the other 50% is taken up by the sea.

Yep. The business term is "180-degree towns" as a business only has, on average, 180 degrees of potential customers (so half as many customers in the same potential vicinity as an inland town).

They say a seaside town business is twice as likely to fail/has to fight twice as hard for customers/etc. Explaining the poverty most coastal towns and cities face, and also why you generally tend to find industrial cities inland.

That's all well and good, but your not going to find a kiss me quick hat, candy floss and toffee apples being sold on the sidewalk in industrial cities.

If Giddings really knows, then he would really tell you what is actually happening.
