Call to join Super Draw

My wife has just taken a call from some nice jolly friendly chap, claiming to be from Sheffield United, and inviting her to join the Blades Super Draw, which she declined.

Had she not declined would she have been invited to provide either our bank details (for Direct Debit) or Credit Card details. If so, get real, do people / organisations like the Blades expect unwitting citizens to provide details like this in unsolicited calls.

I may be in a minority of one, but surely this marketing of our / by our club is in very poor taste / form.

Had four call through the summer from the 'company' acting on behalf of SU, asking me if I wanted to join superdraw. Why four when I told them the first time, I thinkwas because there were different 'companies'?

Had a couple of bricks out of it and one brick voucher we never cashed in.
Had a couple of £10 wins over the last 12 months
It's a contribution from me to the club cos i don't get to as many games as I used to

I had a similar call the other week, from a very pleasant lady with a Birmingham accent.

Everything was going fine until she said "as you are a Sheffield supporter would you like to join the Super Draw?"

I pointed out that I supported Sheffield United, not Sheffield FC, and that despite her accent she ought to know the difference if she was making that phone call on behalf of the club.

I've had the same call recently. Had the same missed call 0114 number on a daily basis for about a fortnight before they eventually got through. Very polite, bubbly young lady, albeit she sounded like a Brummy, wanting to know if I would like to join Blades Super Draw, however the timing couldn't have been worse, the Monday after the Port Vale debacle!

i got the friendly scouse guy over the summer and to be fair if I was sitting on a bit of spare cash he'd probably have talked me into it but the answer is no to everyone in our house at the moment. The blades already get more than I can afford to waste on trivial pursuits

I got sent a lovely cheque when I won £2k this summer although I nearly missed it. I was berating them for sending me a letter saying I'd won but with no mention of how to claim it. Then checked the envelope and saw the cheque. Old school.

All winners receive their prize by post so there is no need to worry if you do not check the winning numbers.

We also contact any winners of £100 and above after three months who have not cashed their cheque.

On two occasions recently we had two members who had not cashed a cheque for £2,000 who had moved address and not informed us, they were quite happy when they were notified they had won.

Do you all work for home? I ask because I refuse to answer the phone unless I recognise the number. There are probably less than 10 people in the entire world I want to be disturbed by (and maybe another 10 or 15 who I might want to speak to if I'm not busy), so why would I possibly answer a call from an unknown number? (if it is important they'll leave a message!)

Only had the call once but it started "Hi, Im calling from Sheffield United. Can you confirm your name and address". I replied along the lines of why did I need to confirm anything, you phoned me. It quickly dissolved into a metaphysical tete a tete worthy of a late night Radio 4 interview.

Hack or buy a database and away you go.
Even caller ID's can be faked these days.
I rarely use my landline 95% of the calls are spam.
On my mobile I can use free apps that identifies most of the spam calls and then they are easily blocked.

Have been in since it started as Blades Revival which was set up by Any Daykin I believe in Bassett days or before.
Was originally used to fund player purchases, Glyn Hodges being the first.
Have had a number of wins, two £10 recently, some bricks in the wall and one large one.
I know somewhere along the line the scheme changed to Super Draw and all my family are now in.
Helps with ticket purchases as our loyalty points are now low as it continues season after season and due to the distance and age cannot get to the Lane as often as I would like to, still on the away matches south of Milton Keynes but not many this season.
Can see no reason not to join the Super Draw if funding allows.

Spot on. I use my mobile for text messages only as I cannot hear. If there is a voice message and my mobile directory doesnt recognise the phone number then I press the button to end the call or ignore it completely

i got in touch with the club via jim p and they got back to me in an email..

they state its a genuine company that other clubs use to rouse business.
stated that sheff weds use them too..
and that they have only heard good things about how politely the callers go about their work.

my response, was that id rather they didnt use this tactic,
and to state that sheff weds do it does hold water to me,
unlike like their pitch.

maybe im old school, but if enough fans shared this view they may listen.
but comments in email say they have benefiited so guess some must have coughed up their bank details.

I got a call from a Scouse girl obviously reading from a script. She kept saying how important it was for me to join Super Draw to "support our lads at the academy". I asked her if she was really a Blade and she didn't understand the question.
