Hi all as a Walsall fan, I would like to offer some opinions, you can take em or leave em. Andy butler is probably the best c/h we have had over the last 10-15 yrs and we were all gutted that he left as his wife was anxious to get back up north. If he is watching Walsall and not his current team it's because Nigel clough has told him to do one and doesn't figure in his plans.

You may want to disagree with what I have said but I would have him back like a shot and for some reason mr clough doesn't agree with me. But it is sufc loss he is a decent c/h and bloke and always had been for Walsall even when he was initially on loan.

Butlers got a good pedigree at this level.

I for one am gutted that things dont seam to be going right for him at the moment lets give him some game time with Collins at the side of him and Alcock at right back.
Just hope its not personal with Clough because we could really stab ourselves in the foot if he goes

its a real strange one lets be honest. why sign him if u wont play him? maybe he signed him thinking he wouldnt get alcock or mcgahey? i wish him all the best, sounds like he is a decent player, will be a weird one to let him go. reminds me of when he bought and then quickly got rid of Leon Britton (tho at least he played for us) and he's been great at Swansea.

That doesn't matter though,Clough can do no wrong in some peoples mind.

How come Collins can't get a game either? I know he's not exactly a fan favourite but he was part of a very impressive centre back partnership. Maguire got all the credit but Collins wasn't just a spare part last year.

Clough obviously rated him at some point, or at least didn't think he was bad enough to ship out or replace. What's changed?

Seems like he has had a fall out with two of the best defenders at the club.

Not sure Collins and Butler would start together but for both of them to be ignored is very strange. Both pose a goal threat from set pieces as well.

Plays all of pre-season yet doesn't even make the bench for the Bristol game, then gets a start in midweek in the cup but wasn't even watching us today!

Don't know what on earth is going on with him, something clearly not right between him and the club/Clough. Genuinely bizarre situation.

When Clough had made the decision to start with those 11 vs Bristol City and Coventry, it's only natural that only one of Collins and Butler would make the squad. It would be a waste of sub to have both sat there.

I thought NC was big on disapline........ I thought that would not have been tolerated. If it was Brandy who did that?

What would not be tolerated? I'm struggling to see the indiscipline issue here. He wasn't included in the squad - he may well be involved in one or both of the next two games. He lives near Walsall, still knows a lot of people there, and for whatever reason had the Saturday free - why not go to their game? Based on his post-match interview it sounded like Clough didn't know - but why would he?

If anyone's got an axe to grind from Butler going to the Walsall game on his day off I'd imagine it would be Mrs Butler, who clearly said he should stay at home and fix the toilet he blocked the previous week. I heard from a mate of a brother of their gardener (who's in-the-know about these sorts of things) that he and Mrs Butler have had a major fall-out in the last few weeks. In fact she might be looking to move him on before the month is over.

Not the smartest move though is it? He must know there's a load of speculation coming from the fans and the media, turning up there just pours fuel on the fire. Also it's hardly going to endear him to Clough.
Butler going to Walsall in itself isn't that odd but this early in the season? after just coming to United? while his own club are struggling? Sends out the wrong message imo.
Hardly kept his head down either, sat in front of the press box, posing for photos.
