Funny because I heard no confirmation one way or the other but there you go.

and whilst I have no reason to believe anything from anywhere, showing up at a rivals game rather than ours is piss poor in my view. You want to watch a game of a Saturday? Try supporting the colleagues you're being paid to be alongside. Just my view like . . . .

Whatever the ins and outs, I'll wager Clough wasn't turning cartwheels having to answer questions about it either.

Exactly. Some people may say it's meaningless but I can't see Clough being anything other than extremely pissed off about the whole thing.

To be be honest the summer recruitment programme looks like a bit of a shambles.

Seems to me he is sticking with what he has got and it's not sounding like he is really chasing another striker.

I think Butler will go out on loan despite what he said about him scoring a few goals. I think going to watch Walsall play has annoyed Clough.

I could be wrong and we end up seeing him start the match tomorrow night.

Assuming he does go, will he have been with us longer than Barry Hayles was?

If he was to leave this week then I think so.

Oh by the way Hayles is still playing football perhaps he could be the striker we have been missing. :)

So in one breath Clough says that he can't fit Butler into the first team squad but when asked about potential signings he talks about being a defender light!?! This is infuriatingly contradictory and makes himself look a bit of a plonker. I like Clough, I like the mentality he has brought to the club but I sincerely hope this is the first and last unprofessional episode he has as a United Manager.

I feel for Butler. OK he hasn't looked sharp in pre-season but to move to a new club, make a slow start and be described as "unimpressive" in the media by your Manager must shatter your confidence (especially after an important goal in the league cup). If Clough has got the face on about him watching Walsall then he should've ordered him to travel with the team.

Derby fans warned us of irrational decisions and players out of position, looks like we're getting our first taste of it.

Hi all as a Walsall fan, I would like to offer some opinions, you can take em or leave em. Andy butler is probably the best c/h we have had over the last 10-15 yrs and we were all gutted that he left as his wife was anxious to get back up north. If he is watching Walsall and not his current team it's because Nigel clough has told him to do one and doesn't figure in his plans.

You may want to disagree with what I have said but I would have him back like a shot and for some reason mr clough doesn't agree with me. But it is sufc loss he is a decent c/h and bloke and always had been for Walsall even when he was initially on loan.

The second taste of it will be when he recalls George Long from Oxford to play up front alonside Higgo, brings Geary out of retirement to play in goal and finally, he makes Morgs the skipper.

Morgs as skipper would not be a bad thing though.

Another Butler threado_O

Hows Ched doing these days:)

Commonly known as Special Snowflake Syndrome.

If you think it's bad here you should try some of the gaming forums I frequent, full of "look at me, no, look at meeeeeeeeee" attention whores.

OT what happens with Butler only time will tell. I'm not certain that I concur with the conspiracy theorists and maybe by given the day off he decided to go and watch a team that according to our Warsaw friend he supports.

Disappointed with this one, the very little I saw of Butler in pre-season I liked the look of, he even had a similar style to Morgan. If it's not worked, for whatever reason, better to get it sorted earlier rather than later. However, we're desperately thin at centre half now, so Clough's going to have to bring a new defender fairly soon to cover it.
