Wilder rarely tells the whole truth about funding and player targets. He is clearly very shrewd and sensibly wary of showing his hand too early. This has been the case throughout his tenure, so why now are people jumping to the conclusion that what he muted to the local press, in respect of the transfer window, is going to be the gospel truth.

By all means, if you feel it necessary, condemn or praise McCabe and HRH etc in February, but let's give them a break and wait and see what actually happens first eh?

Is it just me that's not worried in the slightest. Wilder has proven time & again he can pick a bargain & he can work within a tough budget.

You only have to look / laugh at the total cluster fuck across the city to see just how luck we actually are to have McCabe, yes he's made mistakes and he's the first to admit that but he gives a shit.

If we have to cut our cloth accordingly then so be it, I actually have every faith that Wilder will take us up be it this year or not & he'll do it buying players who want to be here to play for the club and the manager not just for a last pay cheque or to jog around earning a fortune. He will also have access to youth players from one of the best academies in the U.K. (Thanks KM for that as well).

I'm relaxed, I trust Wilder, it's refreshing!

Up the fucking Blades!!

no it isn’t just you.. thanks Dan you just saved me a bunch of typing ;)

Fair enough and of course I don't know.

I am just bemused why you (and many others) automatically assume they will always plug the losses as if it were somewhere writ in stone.
Because you don't invest in a football club unless you can fund losses.
Until it reaches the Prem , the jackpot from which was your initial temptation.
So the decision is very simple - how much am I prepared to lose in trying to get to the Prem ?
Which is why the Championship has become a financially inflated la-la land , particularly in view of the number of historically famous clubs in there.

I think the most telling thing about potential budgets and transfer strategy is what he said in an interview recently - paraphrasing here but talking of our club with "no stupid ticket prices and no players on silly money". Wilder won't want to bring in anyone on big wages. Even if presented with £10m I don't think he'd spend it on a marquee signing. Fans that want this want different things to Wilder.

That's because the fans that "want different things to Wilder" haven't got to worry about either the Club's future finances OR what happens to "team spirit" in the dressing room and on the training pitch. :(

am i the only one who dislikes this transfer window guff?? all this speculating does my head in.. if we get anyone it will be someone that nobody thought of ..

Yes, and let’s not forget CW is a fan too.

I've been critical of McCabe on here over the years. I've always thought he's had the club's interests at heart, but I think he's made some awful decisions over the years, to borrow poker terms, often sticking when he should have raised (especially at the start of the 2006 season), and then raising when he should have been more cautious. I'm sure he knows this himself, and has obviously felt the (added financial) damage far more than we have as supporters.

This is surely the time to go "all in", throw anything and everything you have at this manager? I'm not suggesting we need to "do a Wednesday" and bankrupt the club on high-earning players chasing the Premier League dream. Simply put, Wilder's transfer record is second-to-none, he's been given (relative) scraps and turned them into gold. There's no doubt he's in the plus column when it comes to the current value of assets vs money spent (i.e. resulting in a profit, even if only on paper). This isn't a one off, he's proven this at other clubs.

Imagine if Wilder had signed and improved players like he has Clarke and Duffy but had bought them 10+ years younger? For sure there would be transfer fees involved, but imagine the crazy bids we'd be fighting off now for a (e.g.) 21 year old Clarke/Duffy? I'm not saying we should buy players to sell them, simply that on his record so far, he's (mostly) proven he can bring players in and increase their value.

Lets give Wilder a decent transfer budget and let him work his magic (again)!

But why give him gold to end up with gold?
If he’s managing to do that and turn up good enough players with a lower budget then why change that formula?

Didn't we have a manager who was really good at getting average players and moulding them into an effective unit but whenever he was given money he didn't really know what to do with it?

Doesn't look like the player Wilder was hoping to wrap up this week will be Cole or Leonard. Hyndeman the CM from Bournemouth would be a good shout as to who it may be & he would be eligible to play on sat. Was he a player suggestion on here or is there anything in that link?

There's a mention of Hyndeman on the rumour section but no thread...as yet.
