I've been critical of McCabe on here over the years. I've always thought he's had the club's interests at heart, but I think he's made some awful decisions over the years, to borrow poker terms, often sticking when he should have raised (especially at the start of the 2006 season), and then raising when he should have been more cautious. I'm sure he knows this himself, and has obviously felt the (added financial) damage far more than we have as supporters.
This is surely the time to go "all in", throw anything and everything you have at this manager? I'm not suggesting we need to "do a Wednesday" and bankrupt the club on high-earning players chasing the Premier League dream. Simply put, Wilder's transfer record is second-to-none, he's been given (relative) scraps and turned them into gold. There's no doubt he's in the plus column when it comes to the current value of assets vs money spent (i.e. resulting in a profit, even if only on paper). This isn't a one off, he's proven this at other clubs.
Imagine if Wilder had signed and improved players like he has Clarke and Duffy but had bought them 10+ years younger? For sure there would be transfer fees involved, but imagine the crazy bids we'd be fighting off now for a (e.g.) 21 year old Clarke/Duffy? I'm not saying we should buy players to sell them, simply that on his record so far, he's (mostly) proven he can bring players in and increase their value.
Lets give Wilder a decent transfer budget and let him work his magic (again)!
