Why do people think a wing back can be a winger?Sam made a good point on the latest Pinch podcast about playing him out on the left wing. I think he is far better suited there than in a more defensive position. His best moments for us have been through his attacking capabilities - assists or goals, not really defensive work,
He'd a far more natural operator there than O'Hare and it could help him get back to his best. I really don't think he is cut out as a defender - sort of like how Gareth Bale shifted (obviously not as good!).
We've then got McCallum and RND challenging for the left back spot.
It’s a real puzzle.
It’s a completely different position and skill. As a wing back you back up the winger and overlap to either create a diversion or receive a ball inside the oppo full back.
As a winger you have to receive the ball under pressure, control it, turn and take on your opponent and work with the wing back for support. Absolutely different skills.
I have seen no evidence that Burrows can play higher up the pitch. When he’s been in midfield he loses the physical battle. He’s far too lightweight for that. As a wing back he has no physical duel, he just has to sprint and overlap. If he has to have a physical battle he will fall short.
