Outgoing? Burrows

Sam made a good point on the latest Pinch podcast about playing him out on the left wing. I think he is far better suited there than in a more defensive position. His best moments for us have been through his attacking capabilities - assists or goals, not really defensive work,

He'd a far more natural operator there than O'Hare and it could help him get back to his best. I really don't think he is cut out as a defender - sort of like how Gareth Bale shifted (obviously not as good!).

We've then got McCallum and RND challenging for the left back spot.
Why do people think a wing back can be a winger?
It’s a real puzzle.
It’s a completely different position and skill. As a wing back you back up the winger and overlap to either create a diversion or receive a ball inside the oppo full back.
As a winger you have to receive the ball under pressure, control it, turn and take on your opponent and work with the wing back for support. Absolutely different skills.
I have seen no evidence that Burrows can play higher up the pitch. When he’s been in midfield he loses the physical battle. He’s far too lightweight for that. As a wing back he has no physical duel, he just has to sprint and overlap. If he has to have a physical battle he will fall short.
🤦‍♂️

When he’s been in midfield he has played in the middle, not out wide.

He has played in advanced attacking areas of the field for the time out wide numerous times, hence all the goals he has scored and assists created.

Doesn’t matter he has played central or out wide. In midfield a player has to enter into a more physical battle. Whilst I like Burrows I just haven’t seen went evidence that he is up to that type of task

Get on the weights.

So how did he create all those assists and score all those goals?

Wilder dont like burrows because he is too attacking and it has been brainwashed into our fans that he can't defend

Burrows is a top LB for the level and its rather baffling how he isnt a regular starter mcallum has done well but burrows is miles better

No dount wilder has a 30+ ex prem player line dup to replace him or even better play RND all season because he played well for 45 mins againast blackburn kid

You can't be the Brian The Blade from Radio Sheffield phone in can you?

So how did he create all those assists and score all those goals?

Exactly. Hes got attributes to be a decent left midfield player (not centre midfield as that is literally a different ball game).

I would love to see United play Burrows play left midfield. Might work, might not. But im always blown away by how much conviction some on here have in their views, when theyve seen as much as the next man. Must be Pep in disguise. Ive seen enough football and football players in my time, to make my own mind up.

Phil King and Nigel Worthington at Wednesday were nowt special. Both above average left backs. Play em together with them switching on the left wing, and the fuckers were very handy for them. I know cos i saw it first hand in the Zenith DS in 89 at their shit hole. It can work - and be very very effective too. Anyway, probably never happen now at the Lane, but i can see when certain circumstances might suit a player. I emphasis 'might'. Maybe theyve tried it in training. For 2 mins..
