Outgoing? Burrows

Listened to talkshite Friday. Darragh Mcantony mentioned something along the lines of “West Ham should sign Burrows” - probably nothing in it but you never know…
I heard that too - He was being mischievous cos he is Peterborough’s manager and he wants the sell-on clause money.

But the loss of about 10 goals and 30 assists if Hamer and Burrows join Brooks in leaving suggests relegation beckons?
I didn’t mention Hamer. I would sooner have McCallum than Burrows, and we could do with shoring up the left hand side that cost us a huge number of goals last season. There are two sides to it.

Would Peterborough have a sell on clause by any chance?

Risky to work off of an assumption that hypothetical replacements for Burrows/Hamer would deliver precisely dick in terms of goal involvement.
In fairness - Louie Barry contributed exactly that in 9 appearances - no goals and no assists….

I really don't get our fans sometimes, he's scored 5 goals in his each of his last two seasons and got 4 assists last season not too shabby for a left back and we are not bothered if we sell him.
So if we did sell him we have lost Brook's and Burrow's goals and assists from last season from a side that didn't exactly set the goals scored and chances created world alight and replaced them with ?
A young Kid on loan.
The counter argument is that he was defensively shocking last season and lost his place to McCallum.

What we don’t know yet is if that is him returning to his level or he’s off form and will come back better.

I think he’s a decent championship left back but doesn’t have the pace or strength to play any higher than us, I doubt there’s a big money move anywhere for him.

CW said last night “As far as I'm concerned, Harrison's not available at the moment so we have to check to see where he is before the weekend”

On his way… especially after RND came on as sub on Saturday and played and was praised last night ??

Expect WHU to come in again?

(Do have a feeling he wants away looking at his demeanour recently)

Brentford seem to be upping their interest in the West Ham left back. That probably opens an avenue for him.

West Ham will be looking for 30m for that left back so I certainly wouldn’t rush to give Burrows away.

He’s arguably a very saleable asset.

We need cash, clearly. We’re 15m up on fees. Pushing this north of 20m is probably not going to hurt our long term prospects.

I rate Burrows but he’s the only established first team player that will fetch a good fee and not weaken the starting 11. We also don’t need to bring in a replacement because we have RND. Anything north of £5m and id sell, hopefully we are already inline to comply with SCR and this fee lets us go after someone like Cleary.

Why £5m. WH want £30m for their LB. Play hard ball for £10-15m or as you say keep him if it’s only £5m in. Why do we think it’s good business to sell 3 players to raise £20m, bank £15m and spunk £5m on a couple of projects and crocked journeymen?

If we quote £10m for Burrows then West Ham will just go elsewhere for their £6m left back.

£5m up front, £1m on variables and £2m on promotion. Everyone’s a winner.

I just don’t think he’s shown enough to be valued much more than that. West Ham may get desperate and he might be their number 1 target so we can milk them for a bit more.FWIW I did mean £5m guaranteed then promotion/performance based add ons taking it to £7m/£8m.

I like Burrows. And I’d be disappointed to see him leave. Not least because it would weaken even further our limited attacking threat.

But I’m surprised there’s reckoned to be Prem interest. I don’t think he’s quick or athletic enough to play successfully at that level.

We’ve not seen the Burrows of season 1 for a long time now.

I don’t rate him as a full back defensively, and he’s not quick enough nor has a trick that can turn him into a good wide midfielder.

McCallum is by far and away our best full back and RND is more than adequate back up. Both also give us the option to play them as a left-sided CB in a 3 too.

yes agree with you i think the only system burrows gets in the starting 11 is if we play wingbacks and it looks like wilder has decided on 4 at the back

And we keep one of our better players?

I really don’t get our fanbase at times.

Sell best players, get mad. Don’t sell our best players for a reasonable amount? Get mad we didn’t accept a low ball offer for fear of missing out.

West Ham have money, they’re about to get even more money if they sell their player for £30m. Why would we sell a player to them for a “reasonable” amount? If he’s “worth” £6m tell them £12m. If they really want him they will pay. If they go elsewhere we keep a good player.

Are we going to take that £6m then get upset when a league 1 club won’t sell us their best player for £1m? Or will they be thinking “they’ve just got £6m for a player, we can get £4m for him”?

Be a shame to see him go. He was one of the players I felt heralded a good direction about our recruitment - Best of the league below, young, good sell-on potential. I suppose, if he goes, it's just the natural order of things. He's realising that feature so many people list as important. His sell-on potential. With that in mind, we need to be making money on the deal. He's now got almost 100 Championship games on his CV, has continued the trend of a goal every 9 games(ish)* and has shown himself to be robust enough to sustain his presence in one of the toughest leagues there is.

Needs to go for £10M+ for me.

Decent on his day going forward, doesn't seem great defensively. Obviously having Gus in front of him didn't help defence wise but Burrows never really convinced me as a defender. If we get good money I wouldn't be too upset about a sale.

Anyone know what is the sell on percentage is to Peterborough?
I also can't remember what we paid, was it around £2m?
Wilder has always alluded to some players being bought at the right price with an eye on making a profit (Cooper being another one).
I would think Utd would want to clear around £2M - £3M profit after paying the add-ons to Peterborough..
Then on top of that negotiate some of our own add-ons.
I agree with a few comments on here - around £5-£6M with add ons has to be the minimum.
If it is West Ham then maybe look at something like £5M with £3M add on for promotion........as a starting position at least. The £3M will be 'pennies' to them in the scheme of things if they do go up.

wasnt it 3m ? i agree nothing less than 5/6m

Sam made a good point on the latest Pinch podcast about playing him out on the left wing. I think he is far better suited there than in a more defensive position. His best moments for us have been through his attacking capabilities - assists or goals, not really defensive work,

He'd a far more natural operator there than O'Hare and it could help him get back to his best. I really don't think he is cut out as a defender - sort of like how Gareth Bale shifted (obviously not as good!).

We've then got McCallum and RND challenging for the left back spot.
