For crying out loud will people stop going on about BU and other sites, if you dont like it in here then you have the freedom not to come in. I for one, a long time member am bored to tears with the constant reference to BU etc and the foul and abusive language we seem to increasingly have to suffer.

This used to be a place for banter, a laugh, a wind up and suitable for people of all ages. It is degenerating in to a forum for people to swear and be abusive about other peoples views, with no regard in their use of foul language who might be reading the posts.

If you complain about the foul language of some people and their constant harping on about the 'good old days' of BU, the abuse is directed at you.

This forum is increasingly becoming not a nice place to be and bears no resemblance to the place it once was. We have seemingly imported some people who have no values in common with the vast majority of members and seem determined to make it into a clone of the site that closed down.

Rant over but I really am bored of the small mindedness and swearing.

That you DD... and eloquently put.

Foxy and I have both hit busy times at work when we really could've done without it, couple that with college work and attempting to learn to drive (or killing Ballinpigpubs :D) it gives us less time to be sorting out petty squabbles that we really shouldn't have to.

The bottom line is, we will do all we can to protect the community spirit we once had. If that means culling a few people who do not subscribe to our ethos, it may be unpopular but it is something we will look at doing.

We are not prepared to look at further hosting options if it is only going to be a site full of people we don't particularly want to talk to. This place is a privilege, not a right. It'd be nice if it was treated as such.

I am a refugee from BU. I do not miss it in the least and am comfortable with this excellent forum. I have said so in terms on more than one occasion. I do not distinguish between posters and wouldn't know, in many cases, whether they are ex-BU or not. I agree it isn't helped by some BUers who seem determined to perpetuate the good old days [they weren't trust me!]

Isn't it time for everyone to ignore each other's antecedents and just start from here and now. Any dissenters are welcome to join the Teenage Illiterate Lager Drinkers site!

Ive not really noticed any swearing.

Bickering and wind ups yes but that isnt nothing new really.

so is swearing allowed or not? i've written the odd expletive, but only did so as i have seen others do it ( always easier to blame others! ).

I think is a very good site, far better than BU ever was and I don't miss it ( and the divvy webmaster ) in the slightest

I've always gone on who I think may read which parts of the forum.
Anyone of any age can read parts of it without passwords so swearing is out in my case on most bits (and kinda pointless too, I like to get a point across without resorting to swearing as I think it detracts from valid points).
Now the Pig & Truffle part of the forum, that's a different matter all together :D

I echo Pinchy's views and I feel a bit bad that the exodus that I was part of has had this effect.

Swearing is allowed, just not in reference to, or indeed at, each other.

Examples:

The referee was fucking shite!

Acceptable... and usually applicable.

Fuck off wanker!

Not acceptible... infraction given for personal abuse.

All about context.

We've had a few comments about the "c" word in the past along the lines of it making people a bit uncomfortable, so we'd ask that you keep your "cunning stunts" both figurative and pictorial in the P&T forum :)

Well said Linz, I think people are beeing a bit precious re: children seeing the odd swear word, there are far worse things these kids of today see/hear in the school playground. It's all about in what context the profanity is used.

I thought we had sold "the C word" to Reading??

For crying out loud, will people just stop moaning about everything and get back to sensible discussion? If you dont like it in here then you have the freedom not to come in.

Fully agree DD.

I appreciate some people on here are out to wind up others - but if you're daft enough to rise to the bait then that is your own fault. It shouldn't be followed up with swearing and abusing other members.

Anyone who feels the need to abuse another poster is showing how poor their 'discussion' skills are.

I don't welcome swearing at any time and it is just a refuge for lack of vocabulary.
As Pinchy says, BU wasn't all it thought it was and I am personally glad that some haven't migrated here, as they just abused anyone whom they did not agree with.

Do you think the Germans went through a similar adjustment period after unification? ;)

Are we going through an adjustment process?

Maybe I was just desensitized by being on BU so long, but I think there is far less nastiness and backbiting on this Forum compared to be BU. As I have said before, the fact that you can't post anonymously here has cut out around 80% of it.

No idea if the forum is or not Darren, it was my poor attempt to inject a little humour ;)

I 100% agree that the atmosphere is a lot better on here, I think people respect others' views a lot more than on BU. I also like the fact you don't have the thread system so you don't have to continuously scroll down the page to find the footy-related stuff ;)

I certainly agree with that.

Also as someone else has mentioned, I think the design of the forum makes it far less easy for the repetitive negative poster to make an impact. The threads and individual posters aren't so immediately visible.

At the end of the day, we're all grown ups... some markedly more aged than others.

Grown ups should know that they don't go round a social gathering calling people names and acting bolshy, because in the end, someone will give them a slap. On here it can only be issued as a virtual slap, but the effect will be the same. Eventually, they will be asked to leave the premises and in the end, forcibly ejected.

Grown ups should have also realised by now that their opinions aren't sacred and nor will they be necessarily held by the general populous. That doesn't mean that people disagreeing with them think any worse of them as a person, it just means that they think a little differently and are expressing how their opinion differs.

And somewhere down the line, we all want the same thing. Primarily, we want United to do well.

Doesn't mean you have to fall out over the whys and wherefores of how that may or may not occur.

The only thing that has made things more uncomfortable on here since BU's demise is the numerous posts duplicating posts already made. The number of subjects has obviously increased as more members have joined, but it's made worse by the fact some posters start a brand new thread for a subject already in discussion.

People need to read other threads before posting!!!!

Yeah, piss off to the TIDL!! :p

Yep... this is also aided by original posters making their thread titles as descriptive as possible.

I've just edited the "don't want players like this" thread to include the player in question, whose name I only found out by clicking through to a link elsewhere :)

I'm generally with DD on this.

A few points i'll make though....

I'm getting fed up too of the "I'm an ex BU" stuff and the people trying to explain Len and Beighton to us.

Many of us were on there....I have been banned on too many occasions from BU and read on a daily basis at times along with Bladesmad and Unitedite.

Have any of you new people thought we may accept the views of the so called trouble makers and actually prefer their posts, even if we think they are talking crap, to the abuse that many give out to them?

I actually think Beighton is a gent and would always shake his hand and have a drink with the guy, as I do with many forum members who I probably will never agree with.

I'm sure most people don't agree with my views but I would also say that many on this forum have become good friends.

I hope that can continue!

:)

Is anyone else getting fed up with people getting fed up?
