Brooks

If it’s the only way to get the most talented player we have on the pitch from the start I’d be happy to. But we don’t have to.

I like Brooks as much as you Danny , but to break up one of the prolific strike partnerships in English football to accommodate him is a ridiculous suggestion .

Thought he was generally poor when he came on today to be honest. Lost the ball a few times and is so easily pushed away or shepherded away from the ball. Undoubted talent and has been good but I don't think he's shown enough to make us create a system that suits him specifically.

Our system has been immense and we play it really well, sadly the loss of Coutts just means we now can't play it as well as before. It's still the best way forward for us at the moment. 2 average results doesn't require a total overhaul yet.
I agree. Thought he was poor when he came on against Fulham too. Bit of the 'emperors clothes' with this lad, bloke sat behind me nearly orgasms every time he touches the ball. No doubt he's a talented lad but has done very little to suggest he should be starting every game.

That’s very simplistic. Our last 3 goals have all been with Brooks on the pitch.

Is it overly simplistic to think that rather than aiming to win games 6-5, we need to address conceding goals? Brooks must be looking at the players ahead of him and fully understand that those players are on excellent form. Richard Stearman on the other hand must feel he could help steady the ship.

We really miss Baldock too, Basham really isn't a wing back and the team looks unbalanced with him there.

Sorry, my post got lost. All I was saying is that Brookes usually impresses In games which we are dominating, I am not sure how effectual he is coming from a deficit scenario.

Agree with all of that . Baldock back sees Bash back to RCB and I'd also like Stearman pushed into the middle of JOC and Bash .

Losing both Freeman and Baldock is a real kick in the bollox .

t's the loss of the right back that has made us lop sided.. bash has done a good job but the backline has lost its balance

Thought both Carruthers and Brooks were similar today, both tried stuff and generally it didn’t quite come off.

Also agree, we miss Baldock more than people think, he provides another dimension to our attacks down the right hand side.

it's not just that.. it means bash can play the RCB role and compliment Jack on the left

Headless chicken when introduced tonight. Aimless pointless running, losing the ball ends route to nowhere.

Thought he did well...played alongside Duff just behind Leon ...once or twice things didn't come off,but the game was crying out for Brooks today...He generally links up well...gives us that threat in behind and nice lay for Leon to score..great finish by the way.
I think he'll improve if he gets a run of games.

We have to find a system that suits him for a prolonged run in the team.

He deserves it, he’s got that bit of class we need. Especially missing Coutts quality, Brooks can make things happen.

He needs to play next time out and have a run. He’s special.

It seems like Fleck and Duffy, without Coutts doesn't work.

I'd go Brooks, Carruthers and Basham, as when ever the first too come on, they have a massive impact and threat

Which personally for me anyway is where Brooks comes into his own ;)

It’s all abart opinions though Seth.
Yeah HE does, but i don't think it always fits the system.

If we had a confident and settled back 3 then i'd probably agree, but they seem to need a bit more protection at the moment

He got knocked off the ball a lot, but after a year of gymn work that will be loads better.

Watching live he seemed lightweight, but watching on TV after I got home I could see a lot more detail of what he was trying to do.

At the end of the day people judge on end product - he set up Leon’s goal and if he’d smashed it in with his left in the last minute rather cutting to his right there would have nothing but praise on here.

At present, I am more comfortable with him alongside or just off Leon, not as the sole front of a midfield 3.

But he is Magic
and he will get Magicer!

Brooks has still only played about 600 minutes of League football. He is a prodigious talent and will get better.

In those 600 minutes he’s scored a superb winner at Leeds plus 3 assists.

He therefore has the best assist rate in the club, slightly better than Duff’s.

He certainly hasn’t cost us games, there’s only 2 where he’s been on the pitch and the oppo have scored more - Norwich and QPR and he certainly didn’t contribute to those.

I thought he over played some of his moves a bit last night but his decision making will improve. He set up Leon superbly plus another lovely reverse through ball.

He’ll be an integral part of the season as it unfolds.

If teams are going to set up the way Fulham have by playing 3 up front and relying on countering we need to either play someone who holds the ball or someone who can play off the striker and create space by pulling the back three out of position
For me it's got to be Brooks, people have said he had a poor game but he showed a few touches of real quality last night that opened them up

Maybe Donaldson or Hanson if we are hoo go down the route one path but I feel that would be like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut
Can't wait for baldock to come back I'm sure having him overlapping will make it harder for OPPO midfield to close us down and make us rush our forward passes

For me Brooks, at the moment is an ' away from home ' player as teams will more likely push-up as the pressure will be on them to push forward which DB can take advantage of. At home the opposition sit back and Brooks has been ineffective if they do this. ( he will improve the more experience he gets)

You can't argue that Brooks and Samir had a greater impact on the game, and were a bigger threat

Bit of an odd thing to say considering they came on as subs and Wilder changed the shape/tactics...also, absolutely nothing to do with your original statement that Duffy and Fleck ‘doesn’t work’ without Coutts.

Fleck was outstanding and Duffy very good also IMO...

I'd play Brooks instead of Sharp he seems to work well with Leon but he does need to do the basics right in the last few games he has been trying too many fancy flick and tricks when the basics are good enough like to lay of f for Leon to score.

Just listened to Wilders interview from last night - says Brooks should have just hit it in last minute rather than cutting in. Said the team that scored 4 and 3 in two games previous deserved starts and that no one should be moaning about where we are.

Clearly he doesn’t read the expertise on here

I thought we looked far more dangerous when Brooks came on
There defence had far too easy a time before that
The movement off the ball pulled them all over the place and we really should have won
