Brooks may start tonight

Brooks looked a level above any of his team mates in the first half . That's the best 45 minutes I've seen from him .

Second half though I thought he looked knackered.

We might get 6 million for him now

Another quick edit : I was a little bit disappointed him a couple of times when he found himself in 1 on 1 situations on the right flank and opted for the quick cross into the box . I'd like to think that this option was taken under quite strict instructions from his manager though .

That's one thing he needs full matches , or perhaps he is a sub or to be subbed player ?? His game is all action so maybe he cant do it for 90 mins

True . But I did feel the training regime at the Lane would see him fitter and stronger for longer . Maybe there's shades here of why Man City let him go so soon on the grounds of ' physicality ' .

Easy to say that now he's 34 and playing at Port Vale.

Back in 2003 people were raving about him and he was linked with moves to Everton and Liverpool.

Indeed, the best £4 million we never got. There aren’t too many examples where we should have sold but didn’t – plenty where we shouldn’t have sold and did, and others where we fleeced whoever spent big money (most notably Lee Morris).

If you cant see that Brooks is the best prospect we have had at the club for years than you are blind !

Man of the match - David Brooks (Wales)

David Brooks has only established himself as a regular in the Sheffield United team this season
Given licence to roam in his attacking role on the left of midfield, the Sheffield United forward looked a threat with his agile running and imaginative passing.

No sorry your wrong ![/Q
He isn't. Brookes has yet to reach the heights that Tonge did during the 02-03 season, i remember him destroying teams single handedly at points, Millwall at home, Norwich away and Wednesday away being the most vivid.

Tonge also got 15+ assists the season after with teams doubled up on him all season.

Brookes has a way to match Tonge yet.

Tonge on his best day was better than Brooks on his best day

So far anyway

Michael Tonge at his most graceful still ran with his tongue sticking out and looked like a kid who’d just had his leg braces removed. Great player, just comedy athleticism from what was obviously a fit young man at the time.

The fact that people are comparing Brooks (13 appearances) with Tonge (262 appearances) is testament to how good he is. Comparisons at this stage are irrelevant really; but one thing’s for certain: David has shone on the 4 occasions he has been in the National spotlight on TV which has resulted in a barrage of effusive comments about him. I dont expect Brooksy will make another 250 appearances for the Blades to allow a proper comparison but he’s certainly one of the most exciting talents we have seen in the last 50 years and I’m going to enjoy watching him tearing the opposition apart.

Tonge in his first full season was absolutely amazing
Was ripping defences to shreds destroyed Liverpool in a cup semi final
Was linked with 4m moves was consistently in the team every week

Got I hired and never really discovered the same pace and ability to go past people

Brooks looks a great prospect and could be a much better player than tonge but like PeterNdlovu081 says it's early days yet

Colin ruined Tonge by trying to turn him into a complete midfield player, winning the ball and tackling wasn't his game he was far more effective running at and attacking defences. Back in the day Tonge was getting linked with the top clubs just like Brooks strange how his career stalled and went into decline. I guess you are never really sure how things will turn out.

He didnt ruin him at al he lost a yard of pace through injurys and had to adjust his game
