Brooks Fee

No they don't. They usually do in Europe but not in England.
It’s great news, but there’s nothing to stop his agent having insisted on a release fee. Agree that it’s more common in Europe but we’ve seen it in the UK before - remember Arsenal bidding £40 million and one pound for Suarez? And, closer to home, McDonald and Jagielka only signed contracts with a release fee included. I’m guessing but I suspect young Mr Brooks will have received a hefty pay rise with a nice four year tenor as security against some hairy arsed clogger breaking his leg next Saturday, with a release fee sizable enough to keep the club happy but not so big that it’ll deter the “big dogs” if they come calling.

The lawyer in me says it’s a good move, but in reality it just means we’re guaranteed a decent amount if and when we do sell - contracts in football are more about setting up negotiating positions than being honoured to the last word - but the fan in me is bloody delighted :)

As a lawyer I'd expect you to be able to spell 'tenure'.

He may have a clause, he may not, why worry about it? If he ever decides he wants to move, his agent will get him a move, that's how it works, clause or no clause. I just don't see the need to put a downer on it, based on nothing more than speculation. It's the kind of shit pigs post on PorkTalk to make themselves feel better.

Maybe you’re right I don’t know,
If not then a get out clause. Only an idiot would sign a 4 year contract with no get out clause, 4 years is a long time in football. But if he wants to leave, wilder would let him, he doesn’t want players who don’t want toplay for us and who don’t have 100% commitment.

BushBlade - If I’d meant ‘tenure’ I’d have written ‘tenure’

Tenor can have a number of meanings but it often refers to the amount of time left until a financial contract expires. I was talking about the financial aspects of his contract, so I slipped into legalese - apologies. But it’s not a spelling mistake.

I think we’re making the same point: a four year contract doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be at BDTBL for four years. But you’re right - this isn’t work, no need for thinking about contract risks - I’m happy to celebrate with everyone else.

True but I doubt you'd get 15% of a straight sell on. It's one of the things I'd ask for but allow them to negotiate me down.

Just tell them sell on or piss off. When he signs for Real Madrid as Bale's replacement the profit % might be lucrative anyway.
