They are correct about our form anyway - we just cant score and as CW acknowledged , goals change + win games.
 
Nothing really wrong with his reasoning. Our run in is horrendous and we have struggled against the better teams. I completely agree with him sadly.

Yeah his reasoning isn’t irrational or anything, just don’t think they are any better than we are so to say they have a great chance and we aren’t even in the running is a bit daft.
 
To be fair to Bristol (and I know their recent form has been poor), they’ve got an up and coming Manager with a strong local connection and a team who are giving everything and overachieving. No wonder Ashton Gate is rocking and they are pulling out all the stops. :rolleyes::oops:
 
It would all be very different if Leon had his striking boots on yesterday and Lunds had a shot at Ipswich rather than trying to pass it across from 10 yards out.

We would be 4 points better off and 5th, and most people would be saying our luck will carry us through.

We have to stay hopeful while still in the mix.
 
I don't think either Bristol City or United are strong enough to actually win the play offs, so who gets in the top six is a bit academic.

I know the Premiership means great wealth and the finances to bring in new talent, but I'd prefer us to get there with a squad of players who could already hold their own, plus a couple of quality additions.

I don't think we are currently in that position, but there's not denying Utd have had a superb season and hopefully we can build on our upward projection next season. :)
 
Whether we sneak in or not - and a repeat of our form over the last 8 games (W4 D2 L2) in the final 8 would see us very close - I don't expect Bristol City to get in the top 6. Of the current top 10 sides they are the weakest that I've seen.
 
Its going to be tough; we (fans and players) seem to have lost that fearless attitude we had in the first half of the season (Millwall appear to have gone the opposite way).

Realistically, I’d take the following:
- Maintain top 10 finish
- Beat the Dingles and put another nail in their coffin
- Finish above Millwall and be top of the promoted sides
- Players relax a bit and we get back to some attacking, free flowing stuff. I’d like to see Brooks in his pomp for a few games; we might not see him in red and white again after this season so lets make the most of him.
- Beat Bristol on the last day and knacker the media darlings play off hopes.

See where that takes us and anything else is a massive bonus.
 
What a load of bollocks. We ARE still in this. I am fairly sure that plenty of managers from 3rd down will already be seriously contemplating the prospect of facing us in the playoffs and I am certain that our own manager and team haven't remotely given this up.

We have just lost our mojo up top, but it will come back and encouragingly we have really tightened up at the back. Clarke burries that header yesterday (still don't know how he missed tbh) and it all changes. We'd have battered them after that, trust me.

As for Brizzle, they are nothing special, a good team yes but without doubt the luckiest in the league this season, until very recently when opponent's shots started going in off the post instead of going out. I still can't believe how we battered them at the Lane and yet they still slimed off with the points. It was like playing MK fucking Dons again. I predict that they won't be so lucky at Ashton Gate

Sorry but I don’t see us making the playoffs. Have felt the same way for over a month but my expectations were a top ten finish so I’m happy enough.

We should of course keep going and try to get in there. No point in giving up..... but in my honest opinion the team has maxed out (to use a Wilder quote). We are playing ok in an inconsistent run but I don’t think we have much left in the tank. Just my honest view. Need to strengthen in the summer at both ends of the pitch if we are to kick on.
 
His point about us being in poor form doesn't wash as they are in worse form than us. They've won 2 in their last 12 against Wednesday and Ipswich. Our form isn't that bad at all.

I doubt either of us will make the play offs as neither are good enough. The last game is likely to be a dead rubber to be honest.

I don't know about all that, they didn't cheat they didn't benefit from poor refereeing, they just scored more goals than us.
 
If Brentford put a decent run together, they can do it. We're somehow hanging in there, like Millwall... then so are Bristol C and PNE.

I love the unpredictability of this division. I think you can look at the top 6 in 8 (9 for Cardiff and Derby) games time and it will look quite different.

Boro have really come from nowhere. Quietly getting results.
 



I’d be extremely disappointed to finish below Bristol City.

3-1 or 4-1 would have been a fair half time score against them. I’ve never seen a game where one team hits the woodwork 4 times.

They were the luckiest team alive that day. I’d love it if we secured 6th by beating them at their place.

Every game is now a cup final. But what an exciting time to be a Blade. Rather that than being 19 points behind our rivals with avoiding the slight spectre of relegation the main highlight for the season.
 
Derby, in poor form but just like I said with Millwall’s good form you could see their form improving. Obviously, as the team in 5th they are in pole position currently but they can be caught.
Boro, the most likely out of the four to make it IMO and again, much like Derby their position dictates that they are in pole position. Much like Millwall they have awful fixtures coming up and despite the fact I can definitely see them making the playoffs they CAN be caught.

Sorry, I stopped reading as soon as I realised he didn't know what being in pole position means :mad:
 
Well we won’t be getting any favours today from Cardiff at least with the postponement. I’m sure these two tweets are entirely coincidental...



 
Apparently the snow is quite bad in Cardiff so think it might be to do with away fans trying to get to the game?. Not certain though.

No chance of that mate. Most teams who get out of the championship need to make wholesale changes to stay in the premier. The exception is if it is a relegation team who bounce back. Newcastle won the league comfortably but aren’t any great shakes in the prem, even with a champions league winning manager.

Considering that we had hit the woodwork 4 times and that they only really come on strong after we’d gone down to 10 men, I think it’s fair to say that Bristol had a fair dollop of fortune in that game even if it was our own ‘fault’ that the shots hit the woodwork and a Fleck made a bad decision.
 
Millwall will enjoy shitting on everyone's pie,wont they,cos no one likes em.

I think they are the ones that will be going up thru the playoffs,a cunting club like that with back to back promotions.

I put it at around a 25% chance of making the play-offs

Our form is indifferent and our performances appear below the standard we set earlier in the season and our remaining fixtures are tough to say the least

Six horse race, chasing 2 places. Simple.

All six of them have shown inconsistent form across the season - it's anyone's guess who'll make it.

Did you think Yeovil were strong enough to beat us in the play-offs a few years ago?

Did you think Huddersfield were the strongest team in the play-offs last season and would be good enough to survive this season in the Prem?

The point, I’m hopefully making, is that it doesn’t matter a jot how good or strong you may think a team is on paper, it’s all about finishing in the top 6 and giving yourself a chance of getting to the Prem. Finish in the top 6 and you’ve got an excellent chance.

And it’s pointless being concerned that when you get to the Prem you won’t be able to compete. Look at the likes of Huddersfield, Burnley, Swansea, Bournemouth. Lower division clubs for decades. Smaller than United by far, but, they got their chance and seized it with both hands and every season they “survive” in the Prem the stronger they get and the more assured the future of those clubs become.

Yet despite these facts, we still have some fans who feel “we aren’t ready” and even more astonishing than that, we have fans who are convinced it would be better to wait till next season in the belief that we’ll somehow be “stronger” next season, I’d love to hear some logical explanation as to why we will be stronger next season? I haven’t heard one yet.

Football is all about the here and now. Taking your chances when they come around. There’s no prizes for taking your time and hoping to slowly build a stronger team for next season. I’d be happy to get back to the Prem and “struggle” personally because that’s the best for our club’s long term future.

I agree that the playoffs are a bit of a lottery, but I am also of the opinion that we aren't consistent enough to beat Cardiff, Fulham or Villa over two legs. Let's face it, our attacking options are woeful, there's only Billy who offers anything and he isn't getting any younger.

I suppose my opinion is also swayed by the fact that, I have no love for Premiership football and everything that goes with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that this is where we ultimately need to be in order to compete with the best clubs in the country both financially and on the pitch, I'm just not in an almighty hurry to get there.

I love Wilders Sheffield United and what they have collectively achieved in the last two seasons, it is nothing short of miraculous and has been an amazing spectacle. So forgive me but, I'd rather Chris got chance to strengthen the side, let the new players gel into a competitive unit, show their character, all whilst winning the Championship and then going on to take their chance in the Premier league, with just one or two additions, not the wholesale changes this squad would need.

You're entitled to your opinion, but if you think a back door promotion via a lucky break in the playoffs followed by immediate relegation, causing inevitable unrest on the terraces, higher priced tickets, unrest in the boardroom and potential unrest in the dugout and the possibility of a new management team, is 'best for our clubs long term future' then you haven't been watching Sheffield United as long as I have :(
