Brewsters New Contract?

Sweet fucking lord, no thank you. He’s done okay this season, and that’s the best you can say of him. No doubt he’s a great lad with a fantastic attitude, but there’s no way on earth we should be even considering a new contract for Rhian Brewster.

Brewster New Contract (if offered one) should be something like this

Basic £8k a week

The rest performance related including goals scored

Put £20m price tag on him so he either knuckles down and plays like he has in recent weeks or gets just 8k
8 thousand pounds per week. 🤣

I would offer him a 1 year plus option for another. If he can put a run of decent games together he has resale value. Could easily imagine someone taking a punt for a few million. Even if we don't sell, if we manage his game time so we don't break him again then I think he has something to offer in the Championship and maybe the PL.

Lets agree to disagree on that one.

If he gets a new contract and fucks up I’ll rip the piss out of you, if he does well, you rip the piss out of me, but i really hope he dosen't get one.
Not sure whether he will or won't. Depends on CW I guess. Doesn't deserve one, Doesn't mean he won't get one

Need to release him and give some of the youngsters a chance, Brewster has proved over 5 years that he's injury prone and not good enough. Rather give One and Marsh a go off the bench

We should forget about it until the summer. If he can actually stay fit through another 15 games that will be a bonus and we will get some benefit from that.

In the Summer - he’ll be out of contract and if he’s fit I suspect he’ll try to get a fresh start and put this nightmare for him (& us) behind him.

This is the first time he's had a run of games in a long time and he's NOT looked out of place in this team.

He's had goal involvement in quite a few matches now along with being one of the best players in some.

If we ignore the baggage of his history I think we'd all be happy to offer a (much smaller) contract extension to him?
He’s looked far better than cannon tbh - but so has Captain Blade

Offering him another contract is like we're feeling sorry that we might have to let him go, this is a football club not a charity, we can't keep him just because he's a nice lad, we need to wake up

There's no rush, if he scores 5-6 between now and the end of the season and stays fit then give him a year by all means (however unlikely that is). If someone wants to jump in and sign him up then so be it.

Chris Wilder

, "We are talking to [his agents]. I'd love him to stay. I'm a big fan. I don't go along with what people say. Because he's now having a run of games, he's part of a front group that I'm delighted to have". "I'd love him to get that deal sorted out. Hopefully we can come to some agreement. Sheffield United have not seen the best of Rhian, through no fault of his. He came with big expectations and still needs to prove that player he was then that he can still do it now", going on to say his price tag was nowhere near the 23m that was in the press.

He's improved, and his attitude has always appeared to be excellent.
But to go up, or stay up, he's not at the level we need. Cannon and Moore aren't at the minute either, but he's had years to get there and the other two have had week/months.
It looked a smart move at the time, Wilder hung his hat on him but a lot of us were happy at the time. It didn't come off and we finally move on.
GLTTL.

Wilder trying to justify him spending £23m on him, so he'll get a contract!

I try to look at it objectively. Has he delivered over the course of his current contract? No he hasn't (for various reasons, discussed at length). But that's done now, no one can change that, it's in the past. Is he currently one of our better performing forward players? Yes I think he is. Therefore there's an opportunity to sign a player that is currently performing well at the standard required. I see no reason why we wouldn't look at it. Those saying 'he's shit, he cost us £X and hasn't scored X goals' are in cutting nose off to spite face territory. The main question mark for me would be fitness, but the more games he has without pulling up the more it suggests his body is up to the demands of the game.

Wilder needs to let go, and admit his mistake.Brewster was a bad buy and terrible mistake at 20 odd million.
Both club and player will be better off without each other.
If he was a loan signing for this season most would want to keep him.

United fans can’t get the price tag of 5 years ago out their heads. It’s like some fans on here are paying the bill.

If the contract is something both the club and player is happy with based on him being a bench player then it’s a fresh start on new terms.

He’s been riddled with injuries, but he’s still young and improving at the moment. If he has another big injury between now and May then I’d agree get rid of him but at the moment I think he’s winning quite a few fans around.

The part where I contradict myself & slightly agree on the fresh start for the player is that some United fans are so stuck in their view that he’s shit they’ll never change that opinion & love slagging him off at every opportunity
