Brewsters New Contract?

All players get injuries ,besides that and the silly fee the club paid for him ,strikers are valued on their goal scoring rate. If they can't' score they are not worth keeping in hope one day they will come good or a nice guy. Results are what counts not because he was a Wilder signing that Liverpool chuckled all the way to the bank.

If Brewster had come from our academy he would have been released 2 or 3 years ago due to injuries and poor form.
So if blaster doesn't recover from his injury properly and takes 3 seasons to get back fit we would just dump him? I think not

We did it to Dane Whitehouse.

Anyone out for 3 years is done.

This pretty much confirms that these new owners aren't much wealthier than the prince if they think Brewster is the way forward. Think we'll go up this season but the yo-yoing will eventually end.

This is where CW fails on recruitment & retention.
He values "likeability" over cold hard assessment.
If the new owners keep Brewster or Robinson , we will know that CW has them well under his thumb.
He's already started his campaign to keep them.
FFS owners , don't listen - make your own judgement.
Don't forget , the jury's only just retired to its room , on your £10m striker.
Don't let CW put you over a barrel - seize at least some control if you want a successful club.
The big test eventually, for the new owners, isn’t which players to juggle around but which management team to juggle around.

That's not what he said though regards the AI. Yes he can hold his hands up, but it also shows that he hasn't got the transfer policy over a barrel too then. Can't have it both ways.

Which interview are you referring to regards the Prince? Because if your referring to the one after Wilder left in 2021 then things have changed since then.

The Prince weighted conversations on recruitment either in or out of his favour depending on it's success from what I could tell.

By the same measure on those signings above does Wilder get credit for bringing in the below then too?
  • Cooper, best perm keeper we've had for years by looks of it.
  • Callum O'Hare
  • Souttar (Before injury)
  • T.Campbell
  • Rak Sakyi
  • Burrows
I'm also not writing off any of the new signings after 1,2,3 matches. And we know that BBD can play well for us. Took a bit for O'Hare to come good. We can't afford that for all of the new-uns but you get my point.
You make a good point at the end.

CW has made some great signings ,
But that doesn't mean the club has to follow his every whim.

The interview with the Prince is the one he gave just after the takeover.
The most significant thing he said (for me) was that if he had his time again , the first thing he would do differently is to have more control over CW - he admitted his biggest mistake was finding it too difficult to say 'No' to CW.

There is loads that I like about CW but also loads which I find frustrating.

The fact that he's publicly supported a couple of AI signings means little - he is quite relaxed about talking BS - just listen to his forecasts about players returning from injury.

Another problem is that he sees the awarding of a new contract as some sort of reward for past services , which I feel is his motivation for Robbo.

If we were looking at Brewster as a new recruit , with his atrocious record of absence through injury and his lack of goals (he only has one way to finish , smack it as hard as possible) , I don't believe we would entertain the idea of signing him.

But CW wants to justify his decision , has sympathy for his injuries and likes his personality.

Those factors are totally irrelevant to an assessment of the evidence of his last 5 years in the game.

.
If they put these numbers through AI it would be a noise akin to a 2nd world war air siren

That said😂 we’re human and if we can agree a contract all parties are happy with if give him a deal

If nothing else it saves the obvious outcome of him signing for someone else and turning into Mbappe overnight

The thing is , a new club will hope for the best when signing him as a free agent - they are almost bound to offer better wages or more years than we sensibly should (with our intimate knowledge of his last 5 years).

Which means that if we go chasing him , we will overpay or over-commit , relative to the risk involved , which is based on actual facts. (injury absence & lack of goals)

CW says "we haven't seen the best of him yet" No sh1t Sherlock. Did Wilder swallow a bleedin obvious thesaurus!!!

Forget it’s Brewster.

Imagine we signed a striker in summer with 6 league goals and 3 assists in the last 5 seasons.

Now try answering again.

Weren’t Tyreece Campbell’s stats very similar with large parts of being out injured?
Fans love him and view it as a great signing.

Maybe CW is trying to strengthen RB's agent's arm so he has at least a base wage to negotiate from with other clubs, because CW thinks he's a good egg and has been unfortunate?
Too sentimental?

Nah, nowhere near as bad as those stats. Brewster should be nowhere near this team. He’s spent enough time earning mega money, and I’d be quite happy seeing him out the door with a GLTTL.

Why shouldn't he be anywhere near the team when he's one of the better performers? What he's earned in the past is irrelevant.

To be fair to the Prince, he actually got his football decisions right for the most part.

Even with Slav, you could see the logic in the appointment and he was very quick to rectify.

Better performers? In a team that (if we’re completely honest) isn’t firing at all. The squad we have fully firing, he’d be nowhere near the starting eleven.

He's currently one of the better performing players. Even most of his detractors admit that. Yet you don't think he should be anywhere near the team. Self defeating, and odd.

COH hold the key to our future and the keys to the cheque book. They have placed their trust in Wilder to manage the team and the recruitment. So far so good.

If they are true to their ambition, they will show their true colours next season. If we get promoted, the new owners will want a bigger say in data driven recruitment. If we don’t get promoted this season, Wilder is gone, so his opinion on which players to keep is devalued.

If we do get promoted, they will jointly agree on recruitment, and Wilder will be charged with the rebuild ready for EPL sustainability. The degree of ownership influence depends on automatic promotion v going up v the play offs. Going up by automatic promotion (IMHO) means the current scenario stays in play, and so does Wilder. I expect this scenario to prevail, with increasing input from COH.

Individuals may or may not want to stay. Individual players will drive the decision on the EPL rebuild, based on performance injuries and character. Promotion via the play offs is a lottery, and not good enough for most of them to stay.

FWIW, my opinion is that we will gain automatic promotion. The rest depends on the new owners. Wilder seems to be damned by his current public pronouncements, if that is what he truly believes?

Signings are ultimately football club decisions. One of the first things PA did when he got sole ownership was to install a technical board that voted on signings and could also recommend signings to be voted on.The signing of Brewster was unanimously agreed upon by a democratic process. It was twisted afterwards as being "all Wilder's fault", or an example of Wilder bullying the Prince (bollocks then as it is now). The majority of the technical board failed to use their votes to veto the transfer. Both they - and Wilder - wanted Brewster and share (or at least should share) culpability.

At an online fans forum during lockdown members of said board went into great depth about the Lowe/Bogle joint deal. Wilder presented them. The majority of the technical board thought them too expensive ( it turns out 3 million for both). Wilder was outvoted and the proposed transfer was vetoed.

At a future meeting he came with a more persuasive argument and they changed their mind and voted in favour of the transfer.

Recently there have been signs that Brewster can contribute positives to our play, but I worry that these recent signs will cloud Wilder's judgement about Brewster's overall contribution (yes, I'm aware about the injuries and gradual recovery etc) to his time here.
I've no desire to appear harsh but we really should be looking for better than Brewster and the initial £20mil+ investment that brought Brewster to United.

There have been partial, inconclusive signs that Brewster's recruitment has improved us, so time to look elsewhere......and no way should we be considering a new contract for Brewster.

In 4 years at the club he’s had a handful of performances at the 7/10 level, most of those have been recently in parts of games that he’s played.

Apart from that he’s been at best 5/10 with some 2’s and 3’s.

We can use injuries and lack of ability to have a run in the team as an excuse, however past behaviour is a good indicator or future performance.

If people think that this level of performance commands a new contract then it amazes me.

7/10? He won us the game against Swansea and played very well and Portsmouth and won us the match

What would you score him then?

I’d say Hamer was the best player (again) and Brewster came on and did well to influence the game. Solid 7/10. The performance was piss poor as a whole from the team.

Looking at the scores on the forum ratings it seems most agree with me. If you look through the ratings for the season as a whole he averages 5.78/10, this is about where I’d have him.

These mythical ‘great performances’ aren’t happening, he’s doing ok at the minute, this is a 100% improvement on anything he’s done for us before where he’s been absolutely disastrous.

Brewster made his debut for us on 18th October 2020.

Since that day he's been outscored in league goals by Ahmedhodzic and Jack fucking Robinson.

Seriously, what are we doing here?

Does it make Wilder look worse if he's still with us either injured/playing the odd average game, or if a player wilder signed for £23m on a massive contract is released on a free and struggling to get in say Doncaster's team next season..... we're rewarding failure
