How the he'll can we make all these judgements on our young forwards whilst viewing on TV who are more interested in watching the coaches reactions rather than the football match. (Apologies to Cooper blade for repeating his comments). The cameras tend to follow the ball so when our wingbacks are working near the sideline in the final third (eventually) we do not see the runs of the lads in the centre of the field. The first goal is the hardest, even Billy said that in his after match interview, players get nervous, make wrong split-second movements with the lightweight football travelling and dipping and swerving at 60mph+. Didn't Diddy take all last season to get his first goal.
Our play last season was fast flowing football which would have suited young Rhian, it did help Ollie McBurnie. It must be soul destroying watching the ever present Midfield either passing sideways or backwards, slowing the play, allowing the oposition to get back into defensive position, thus limiting the space or run he had made. Chris Wilder got the club to buy Rhian for the forward attacking free flowing team that was last season, another piece of quality that was limiting our goal tally, sadly some of our players haven't been putting a shift in and along with the injuries and newbies taking time to settle in, our forwards haven't had chance to shine.
All our established players are good enough for the lower premiership but they have to play at their very best to stay there, some haven't and have let the younger players down by making them having to play out of their natural position and then getting disheartened. I would think Rhian is absolutely brilliant in training but match fitness and confidence only come with a winning willing squad. Roll on next season. (After FA cup appearances at Wembley of course!)
